Your life is full of people, and so is your BlackBerry; that said, you're probably going to be spending a lot of time in the Contacts app in BlackBerry 10, so we wanted to help make sure you were getting the most out of it.

Handling contacts on the BlackBerry Z10 is very similar to what most BlackBerry users have become accustomed to, but old and new users alike may find a few useful tidbits in our top ten tips below...

TOP TEN MUST-KNOW BLACKBERRY 10 CONTACTS TIPS

1. Choose which networks feed contacts into your address book by swiping down from the top of the Contacts screen, tapping settings, and toggling networks.

2. Contacts can be added from the Hub and the phone app by long-pressing their latest correspondence and tapping Add to Contacts from the context menu.

3. Contact profile pictures can be changed by tapping their image when looking at their card.

4. Social updates can be shown under the Updates tab of a contact, so long as Find More Contact Details is enabled from the Contacts Settings.

5. Important people can be marked as favorites from the context menu for easy access from the left-side pane in Contacts.

6. Contacts can be set to speed dial by long-pressing their latest call in the phone app, and selecting Add to Speed Dial. Existing Speed Dial contacts can also be removed from the contextual menu.

7. Speed up navigation within Contacts by tapping and scrolling down the row of letters on the right side.

8. Contact information spread between different social networks can be linked together so all of their information is found in one place - just tap the Links icon at the bottom of the contact card.

9. Filter the which network's contacts you're viewing by tapping the icon in the bottom-left.

10.  Tap on a contact's address to launch into BlackBerry Maps and navigate to their location. From BlackBerry Maps, mark them as favorites under My Maps for easy future access.

There is a bug with the Facebook links in contacts where it knocks a day off the birthday date.

Loves BB10

Actually it doesnt, you can choose for it to tell you the day before of the day of, it defaults to the day before

For some reason my LinkedIn contact pictures are not showing up. Not sure if there is a way to 'force' the BB to refresh the contact list or something.

The "activity" tab under each contact doesn't show BBM conversations...shows emails, sms, calls, Facebook, etc...but no BBM

Facebook info not linking to contacts I create, there should be an option on FB app to link info to a contact like in older BB os

sk8er_tor

There is such an option:

1) Go into your address book, swipe down, click Settings, and for "Show Account in Contact List," make sure you have Facebook set to ON. Click Back to go back to your Address Book.
2) Go to the contact that is not linked and click on them. Then click on Links on the bottom. Then click Add Link and now choose the Facebook contact.
3) When you're done, you can choose to go back in your Address Book Settings and remove the Facebook contacts from showing up (the links will stay).

Note: You can do the above with BBM contacts, Twitter contacts, etc.

sk8er_tor

When contacts are linked to Facebook, some data such as cell phone number and birthday get duplicated if they don't match exactly. Example:
(416) 555-5555 Outlook.com
4165555555 Facebook
Both entries will be in the address book. Same goes for birthdays since some people choose to not list their birth year on Facebook.

Does anyone know if GoogleMaps is available for the Z10?

sidevbe

Someone would know how to paste a Phone number in the dialing app in Blackberry 10. ??

uzmarvel

Why would you want to do that, you can dial a phone number from anywhere in z10 (email, remember, sms, etc).

Wow buddy me and you think alike thats what i want too.i have windows phone and they have that feature.its like having your own personal book.its between wp8 or blackberry for me.if they dont im going wp8.

BruvvaPete2

Such infantile behaviour.

uzmarvel

If you have a company, why don't you create a DL in outlook or exchange server and pack people there and use that group email in your z10? It does the same job, or you can use BBM group feature.

Or, best solution for you is to use CorporateContacts (by Eir) which provides those features.

LET ME MAKE SOMETHING VERY PHUCKING CLEAR HERE, I AM A BB9930 TO THE G** DAMN HEART, THERE IS NOTHING ANYBODY CAN TELL ME ABOUT BLACKBERRY'S, IM THE ONE SHOWING EVERYBODY WHAT TO DO, BUT AN EMAIL GROUP IS NOT THE SAME AS A TEXT GROUP, AND IM STILL GOING TO GET MY BBZ10, PHUCK THAT, IF IT ISNT THERE, THEY WILL CORRECT IT WITH AN UPDATE OR SOMETHING, BUT I USED TO WEAR MY IPHONE AND ANDROID FRIENDS AZZ OUT WITH THE FACT THAT THEIR PHONES COULD NOT DO A GROUP CONTACT LIST,IT WAS JUST A GENERAL QUESTION, BUT TRUST ME ,IF YOU ASK ANYBODY IN HOUSTON ABOUT WHO IS THE BIGGEST BLACKBERRY, THEY WILL TELL YOU CKARLSIE...

Is there a way to stop it from reverting contact info to linked information?
When linking accounts it sometimes changed the contact names to their twitter handles and when I try to change it back manually it reverts back after no more than 20 minutes even though I've hit the save button.

burkey1973

I had a similar issue when I first setup the Z10. Since I was so excited on launch date I logged into everything (Facebook, twitter, etc) before I setup BB Link and switched devices so my actual contact list was added last. A lot of contacts were only showing first names, some had incorrect Date of Births, etc. I would correct them but they would revert back to only showing first names.

I decided to restore to factory settings last week to correct an issue I was having the Pictures folders not refreshing correctly and this time I restored my contacts from my previous device first (I used a prior backup from my 9900 since I had security wiped it after switching devices) and then logged into each the apps and let the Z10 link them. Since then I haven't had an issue.

I may be wrong but from what I can see and a couple of quick tests, it appears that the main link (goto the contact, click Links and whichever link is at the top of the list) is the main default and is the one it reverts to. You could try unlinking and then relinking each one starting with whichever contact has the most info. This also worked for me in my tests (instead of starting with the address book contact I used their twitter contact and linked the address one to it. Now the contact list reverts to their twitter name instead.)

unabrogable

Hey there, I'm having quite a bit of problems with my contact lists. Once i've linked contacts, i can never get them unlinked again and when I need to make changes to names, they just keep creating more and more profiles, all linked. Facebook isn't syncing properly and it seems I can't get it to do anything I want really. Is there any way to refresh or reboot the app apart from restarting the phone? Because even that doesn't really seem to be working. Would really appreciate any tips!

Will_nonya

The best advice I can give is to trade the Z10 for a Windows Phone.

I’ve recently been forced to change phones and the Z10 is what I ended up with. At first I was excited but the more I use the phone the less excited I am. When it comes to the two things I depend on most, contact management and Email, BB10 isn’t even in the same league as WP7/8.

I could see the Z10 as an upgrade from an iPhone, maybe even android, as long as you don’t need many apps but when I look at the Z10 I see average hardware and a pretty OS with a few neat ideas implemented badly.

JuanCarlos Munoz

Can anyone from CB tell me how can I make groups of people on my z10, I had that feature on my 9900 bold, I know it wasn't included on the z10, but I'm hoping somebody has find a way around.

I need it to seen mass invitations and when ppl text back to be removed, to be able to do so without having to create the entire chat group again.

DrNilam Patel
