Tilt - coming soon to your BlackBerry 10 smartphone

By James Richardson on 7 Feb 2014 07:00 am EST

It isn't very often we get a teaser of an upcoming application, but this time around we certainly do. Tilt for BlackBerry 10 is heading our way - developed by ReFocus Labs - the team behind ARKick and Pastry Push

Tilt manages your news, priority notes, weather, places, battery stats and calendar. All this information in one place, providing you with a seamless experience.

Tilt is based on BlackBerry Sweden’s tilt UI concept - adapting to your phone’s gyroscopic orientation you will get the most important information only when you need it. On a table surface the display will be blank, as you tilt it up context blocks will show up according to their priority. Focus more on the world around you with this non-obtrusive user interface.

Using the same contextual backend as award-winning app ARKick. Tilt uses Sidekick Engine to rearrange the context blocks priority, re-arranging them according to the current context. If the weather is harsh or an event is coming up Sidekick Engine makes sure you know with a clear and confident LED notification.

We should have a review copy of Tilt prior to its release on February 11th, In the meantime, give us your thoughts in the comments. Is that video cool or what?

Cool. Can't wait to be the first to try it!

Such a special little boy. Here's your go stand in the corner with the others.

Posted with my Z10 via CB10

What a special little Internet monitor! Here's your sticker, go stand in the other corner.

BB Adict

He must be QuickSilver's little deputy.

Addict for 10 years, but it may be time to get off this drug.

"deputy" - nice euphemism.

Sad Internet monitor more like. No friends - needs (constant) attention. Just humour him. The stickers thing goes back to a troubled childhood, no doubt.

BB Adict

Lol!! Good one.

Blackberry always.....

OK the sticker thing just isn't funny anymore. The first time I read it(and it was me it was directed to and I have to add I didn't get my sricker) I chuckled a little. Now I'm reading it all the time.... it's kind of like saying "are you working hard or hardly working".. it's just not funny anymore.... the most you will get is a pity chuckle now.... if you are lucky... and a good

What is this

Would definitely try this app on release, looks very slick and modern.

Prem WatsApp

Great first, well done, witty, not obnoxious and expresses your opinion.

If you do it like that, there shouldn't be any real reason for complaints.

I'd like to be one of the first to try that app, too!

Lol @ the music in the promo. Love it! And the app concept too

Posted via CB10 on Z10.1925

I felt like I was in a dubstep video for a minute there.

love when new apps come to blackberry .
Makes me love blackberry more and more and more …..

Diogo Cardoso

damn i was with my headphones on max volume!!! but cool app anyway...

I think there is some bad distortion with the recording...or it is supposed to sound badly recorded - either way, it wasn't that great in my offensively expensive headset.

Teller: "Sir, it'll be $$$$"
Nharzool: "Excuse me? Do you talk to all your customers that way?"

Love the teaser promo and the music is awesome!!

It will be welcome!

I like that fact that it's different, I remember the blackberry Sweden demo and thought that it was wild.

This will be the first 3rd calendar, utility app I buy

Posted via CB10

I'm hoping for more apps like this to arrive. I bought my BlackBerry to stand out and be productive. This will be one for sure to get

Wow... awesome advertising... will get this app

I have just submitted proposal for BES10 for our new company...

Posted via CB10

I may download just for the teaser!!!

Posted via CB10

Hopefully it won't make the Z10 battery last 7 minutes as Arkick does

Colorful! ;-)

C0038297E Quote of the Day (BBM Channel)

Isn't this similar to what the TAT Sweden group demo'd on a prior video? What's BlackBerry doing? SMH.

The thing that TAT demoed was just supposed to show developers one of the cool capabilities that they could use in their apps. All this is, is a developer taking that ball and running with it, which was the whole point of the TAT demo.

Posted via CB10

I'm not sure how I feel about it... the theory is sound, but I can't see myself benefiting from it much.

I guess I will have to see it and use it to tell. I get the concept, but what TAT showed off before seemed more practical albeit just a tech demo and this is an actual app.

Can't wait for a review to go up.

While the app looks impressive and cool, I don't quite get the value it provides. It's kind of a mishmash of important things from your phone into one little monitor? How does it determine what it displays? And most importantly, how is it going to know what is valuable to the individual?

I dunno... Would like to see it in action and how it's configured.

I guess that would depend on the level of customisation.

If the app provides clear instructions on how to enable and customise the app just the way any user wants it, it might be vary valuable.

Though I do think this app is best suited to the Z30 because of its large screen.

Posted via CB10

Looks quite interesting. This development team are doing great things and going beyond the standards.

Good for them and great for BlackBerry 10 :)

Posted via CB10

Looks great! I don't know why but this app reminds me of Viigo somehow, maybe because you can have news, weather and other stuff in the same spot. Anyways, I am glad apps are coming into BlackBerry World.

It sounds great and I'm looking forward to giving it a spin.

Posted via CB10

I don't get it. What does this app do

Posted via CB10

So you would still need have to have this single app full screen to work right? Right now I have 4 active frames which pretty much show the same information, with minimal battery consumption.
Of course if it does include the option to add your personal feeds alongside the other information it sounds like the perfect reader app.
I just do not really see the point of the gyro-controls unless this will be part of the core OS or something and not require an Active Frame...

And this would probably work horribly on current 10.2.1. Because the gyroscope is not calibrated properly.
Either judge that from the BB Virtual Expert app, just by using FlipShush; it goes of áll the time even when just walking or putting the phone down.

Looks cool any way. But a wise person doesn’t go by looks alone. Need more of a description of what it can do and what it's for.

All good except this developer is not that great. AR Kick has not been updated in ages and is full of bugs.

At first glance it looked like Windows 8 tiles.

I can't freaking wait... I been wanting this one

*bring it"....good video.

CB10 from the Z30

Um That looks like the same process & mockup of the toast notifications we were going to have on the Z10.

It does look cool and interesting and most of all COLORFUL!

Posted via CB10

Yeah, I hope they do away with the crappy rainbow look. Does not fit the platform. User should be able to choose their own colors.

Posted via CB10

Prem WatsApp

Shades of blue....

Zzzzwiped from a Zedevice....

Too bad you'll likely have to swipe to wake up the phone first before tilting. I liked the BlackBerry demos of this because it worked simply by tilting with no swipe first.

I really hope you are wrong otherwise this will be kind of useless. The app should force the screen to always on except when the device is in a position where the screen cannot be that I am thinking about starting to see why this was not implemented to begin with...not sure how practical this will really be...

Sweet. Always need more gestures!

Looks interesting, anyone know if priorities can be changed? Sometimes I just look out the window to see the weather :D

Posted via CB10

Prem WatsApp

Anyone noticed, the colour sequence on the phone's screen doesn't match their logo?

So it must be customizable.

Zzzzwiped from a Zedevice....

Puneet Kohli

The arrangement of the tiles is based on the contextual sidekick engine, so it is bound to change the order based on who you are, where you are, and what's going on around you :)

Looks neat - maybe better for showing off than anything else.

Posted via CB10

Okay, read the article but I'm confused. Especially because of that video. Huh?

tripple dunk

This just sounds and look stupid. I have to tilt the phone just to access content...lame.
