Am I missing something? Is this not something you could already do by recording a video of yourself and sending it as a MMS (multi media message) the same way you do a picture?

It seems like a you tube service for cell phones.

Sounds like someones trying to kill the texting era w/ video, cenloe.

but you have to view the video from the WAP browser on your phone... the native browser displays the whole web site.

What's the difference between this and shootin' a vid and emailing it to somebody?

Posted by syb0rg Thursday, Jan 21, 2010 856 days ago

you can upload a video to the host site, and post the link on twitter, facebook, to broadcast SMS it to a bunch of people. and they can view from their phones. Picture a Youtube for Smartphones... but only the person that owns the video can share the link.

Why is this different or better than using MMS? I am not getting this.

I tried recording a video about 20 seconds long with my Storm9530 on Verizon and e-mailing it to me@thwapr.com and it 1)took a very long time and 2)didn't show up on the site in the 10 minutes I waited. Maybe I'm impatient or did it wrong but seems flawed and/or pointless.

It's still a beta product.

Thwapr experienced an unusually high volume of activity in the last 24 hours due to the public launch. Usually the turn around time is under a minute for a typical video file. The upload system was offline for a period of time this afternoon during your upload and is back in operation now.

Please try uploading again and thank you for exploring Thwapr for open mobile to mobile video sharing.

If you have any other questions or issues please contact us at support@thwapr.com.

what is the benefit here? I shoot a vid on my storm and I can SMS, MMS, e-mail, send to FB etc... right from the video application. I have to think any smartphone can do the same. For that matter even a moderately intelligent phone can do this. If it was video confrencing - Now that would be something.

The only thing I can think of is when I Take a video with my Storm and send it to my wifes 8330, she cant play it. The Curve won't resize it and using MMS the quality is awful. So maybe this app will work and she can view the videos I take.

I tried it as soon as it hit the crackberry site. took a vid on my 9700 and sent it off to my Thwapr page. Still not showing up. I understand there is going to be a delay there but wow! Plus really don't see the point in it. Now if they had an app that could could show a vid in real time that someone else was taking with their berry would be very very very cool!!!!

I agree with it being a YouTube/MMS like service... I'm more interested in the UI of the APP. I Like the idea, just gotta see how far they can run with it...

Just take a video and send it to friends. Thats nothing new, but how it's done might be different.

Just so you guys know, Telus (which is a large Canadian carrier) blocked all of their Blackberries MMS capabilities on their CDMA network. I think this new service is awesome because it would allow us still on blackberry devices on the CDMA network to finally send multimedia files to other types of phones without bbm and without having to send an email.

So I think it's awesome.

If you go to the sign up page it mentions having to send a STOP msg. Wonder if you get billed seperately then mms or sms?

Posted by blackstrawberry Thursday, Jan 21, 2010 856 days ago

I have an account with Thwapr and there is no charge. As long as you have SMS your good to go. If you get charged by your phone company for extending your SMS limit then that's kind of your own fault, but Thwapr charges nothing.

well i have unlimited everything, so no issue there. It just seemed like those text to get ringtones/wallpaper commercials you see on MTV. lol.

if you have a smartphone, you can shoot video, and send it right from the app. what does this do that i cant already do with my bb??
also, you can't send the video right from your phone to the recipient, it goes to them first, then to your contact. makes me wonder if they keep a record of it?? hmmm? bogus app dudes!!

I just started using Thwapr a few weeks ago, but I think its such a great idea. Not only does it NOT take up a bunch of space on your phones memory but it allows you to send vids to anyone be it email or phone. I tried to send a video clip to my boyfriend last month and had to plug my phone into my laptop, download it, convert the media type, save it to my laptop, THEN email it to him...all because it was too long to send via MMS. Not to mention what a great way for vloggers and micro film makers to get creative! Love it!

Hey Crackheads!

I use Thwapr, came across the post here on Google, I like it a lot, it's come along way since when you all were posting here! Miami Dolphins are using them to connect with their fans, I use it for my business and using it on the Storm. I am upgrading to a DroidX soon so the videos should look sweet!
