By ObiGeorge on 27 Jan 2010 07:45 am EST

While at CES I had a chance to hang out with Jason from berrycodes.net, creator of the popular app Textender. He explained that he had an update that was soon to be released, and generously offered to give away some copies to the CrackBerry Nation. If you have not heard of Textender, it is an app that allows CDMA users to send text messages longer than 140 characters. New features in version 1.5 include:

  • OS 5 compatibility
  • Now able to select from multiple phone numbers for a contact
  • Outgoing SMS are now marked with a message count i.e. 1/3, 2/3, 3/3
  • Textender is now in the system menu, allowing quick access from almost anywhere

Textender is on sale for $1.49 until January 31st, and compatible with devices running OS 4.5 and higher.

Contest: We have 50 copies of Textender to give away. Just leave a comment on this post to enter. Contest ends this Sunday at Midnight PST. Please only leave one comment, multiple entries wont count.

Textender Updated to Version 1.5 - 50 Free Copies

a must have app! Great work putting this together. I can't believe this isn't part of smart phone OS software by now.

This seems like a very nifty app for owners of 4.5 (like me) that don't have text threading :) I'm in

I would LOVE to have this app cause I usually email my friends when I know its gonna be a long text so i dont have to text them 2 or 3 times. I SOOOOO want this app PLEASE!!!!!

I am constantly having to split my SMS messages into 2 different ones becuase they are too long, this would be a perfect app for my BB Tour running OS

This is one of those features that really should be in the OS. Not sure why my "dumbphones" from Nokia and LG could send extended texts on Verizon's network, but my "smart" phone can't.

This is an awesome app. My friend had it and it makes it easier when sending a longer text. If I win great if not I will wait for the new ver. to come out and ima gonna buy it, either way it is a must have on my list.

maybe us CDMA users could start to take over the world if we had this app, we would be able to chat continuously

This would be so cool seeing as how I can't convince my fiance to stay with BlackBerry. She now wants to go with the Droid and that makes me mad since we text a lot since she is in college all day. This would be a great program!

This looks like a great Application. I've had number of times when i wish i could extend my text messages.

I used to have beyond160 on my curve but now that I have a Storm2 it is not able to be used on OS 5.0 i am not fast enough yet to type 2nd and 3rd messages threaded without the person im texting to getting the first message and having to wait for the next one. This app would be a lifesaver

I just could have used this app 5 minutes ago when I was texting the guys at my firehouse, then it was the first feature of my ritual morning crackberry.com check (not to be confused with my ritual mid-morning, noon, afternoon, late-afternoon, evening, and night time crackberry.com check!)

Blackberries are such great txting devices and I've always wanted more text space. We blackberry users are hungry for an app like this!!

I would love to have this app. I'm tired of sending several text to one person. Please pick me please. I'm a loyal crackberry reader that has told everyone about CB. Please show me some loyalty....:)

If my text goes over 140 characters it breaks it up and sends as more than 1 text automatically, I don't see this app as anything exceptional or necessary.

Would love to use this..... SO HOOK A CRACKBERRY BRUTHA UP!!!! "Pants on tha ground, pants on tha ground, hat turn'd sideways, gold teefs, lookin' like a fool with your pants on tha ground!"

I would love a free copy of this! Sounds great and I would love to be able to text for more than 140 characters at a time!

I think this app is perfect for us cdma users. I honestly hate so much feeling as if I need to just send a email to my non-bbm contacts. I would love this app. Defo will Buy if I dont wIN WIN WIN

Thisis just what I need. Being from the south it takes us along time to get to the point that is why I was always having to send multiple text. Cant figure out why I am so verbose, even when leaving this comment.

This app would be pretty awesome. I know my old flip phone used to do this, kinda surprised Blackberry doesn't do this out of the box.

I'd like to win one, so I can send text more than 160 characters instead of composing more than one txt. Thank you, good luck to everyone!

I'm glad someone came up with this idea, when you have a lot to say and have to do it in 3-5 separate texts it becomes a bit annoying. Berrycodes.net I'll spread the word about you guys, I know women will love this the most lol..

This is a def must have for CDMA phones and heavy texters...i could def use this as most of my friends still dont have blackberry's and cant bbm them...good luck to me and everyone else...

I send alot of texts to my daughter and other friends that are on a CDMA network and would love to be able to send more than 160 characters....Please add me to the list

Love it, Need it and I Gotsta have it please! I Promise that I will use it like crazy and spread the word! Textender is a MUST HAVE!

This idea is long coming, BB shouldve done it originally but it looks like berrycodes.net beat them to it. Thanks Crackberry AGAIN

When my Tour was in for the trackball repair, I was using an HTC Touch Diamond CDMA phone and I was able to send texts beyond 140 characters. I would love to be able to send messages to my non-BBM contacts beyond 140 characters!

I dislike how the Blackberries unlike the other phones have a shorten amount of characters for text messages being sent and recieved. Instead of taking one message to send someone something it takes about three or four of them.

this app seems amazing. i always have to get creative with the sending of texts. i wish everyone could have a BlackBerry so i could just BBM them, but that isnt the case. Now ill never have to think of how to abbreviate words or what to cut out of a sentence. And now i can rant and rave for several messages at a time. im sure my friends will be thrilled!

Textender should be basic in all phones. With this new OS for the storm, with all text being conversation style, you can't even save a text to write the second part in another text. Its terrrible.

Was using beyond160 with my Storm 1 but isn't compatible with OS 5. Sick of type multiple texts and trying to complete them before replies start coming.

I actually avoid using SMS because of the character restriction, if possible I use BBM. Great app idea, looks very easy to use.

Would love to be able to text more than 160 characters at a time.

Is the character limit 140, I thought it was 160?
