Tether Updated To Version 1.1.0.2

One of my favorite "on the go" apps was recently updated. Tether, was bumped up to version 1.1.0.2 a few days back and the changelog while small, brought some welcomed changes:
Updates:
- Faster UI
- BlueTooth Selection
- General Bug Fixes
The faster UI portion was never really that big of a deal for me as the Tether typically fired up pretty fast but some users may have found it slower then preferred. This has certainly been addressed in this release. Overall, a maintenance release to address some minor issues people were having but it's the little bugs most users may have had issues with. Tether is available as a 7 day free trial for those wishing to test out the latest version.

the link above still shows the previous version. mobihand.com doesnt have the upgrade and tether.com shows noting of an upgrade whatsoever.
*edit* just got an email from tether with the download

What are the chances that Tether will work on the non-3G Ipad?
If it would work (Bluetooth), would a new subscription be required or could you add it to your current one? Perhaps an add on fee?

I don't understand why you need to buy an app to tether. I just connected my BB via Bluetooth. Then went under network connections and made a new connection choosing my bluetooth DUN. Left the user name and passwd blank, Put #777 as the phone number and poof, everthing works great!
jwilcox09 Mar 2, 2010 at 11:23 am
What service do you have BC for some reason the people at Tether don't like the tour and Mac's...
jeffsalzman Mar 2, 2010 at 11:35 am
Is that a fool-proof method to tethering that doesn't raise the ire of the service provider?
I thought that if the provider detects tethering, you are subject to having your account terminated.

Is there anywhere to get directions? I have always wondered if that would work...Or are those all the directions? LOL trial and error for me I guess...

I use Alltel and used this methond with my Samsung Delve before I got a Curve 2 8530. Now I use it with the Curve 2 as well with my Wife's Tour. If my wife is around I will use her Tour due to the Tour Uses REV A and Curve 2 uses REV 0.

that URL will kinda help you get started. Except I don't use the usb cable and desktop manager. If you connect via bluetooth then you don't need the desktop manager running.
clexman Mar 3, 2010 at 12:36 am
Too bad that doesn't work on Sprint anymore. #777 use can be logged and/or turned off by your carrier. Tether works very differently and just looks to your carrier as if you have been using your phones standard internet connection.
tarotmusic Mar 2, 2010 at 11:25 am
haven't received an email from Tether yet. I absolutely LOVE this app.
edit -just downloaded the latest version via Crackberry app. Thanks for the heads-up!
devGOD Mar 2, 2010 at 11:22 am
you can do that without paying for an app
jrcdpm Mar 2, 2010 at 11:25 am
I don't know why it would not work on the non-3G iPad. I use Tether with my macbook with no problems. I do not think there is a limit to the devices that you tether with so no increased fees from Tether. Just download Tether to the iPad and since it has bluetooth you should be set to go.
FunkyDog Mar 2, 2010 at 11:29 am
Tried the trial. It worked for me. Bill came and no tethering charges.
Just that the app is wayyyyyyyyyy too expensive for me!
tarotmusic Mar 2, 2010 at 11:39 am
I would rather KNOW I'm not going to get a bill for tethering, than to do it for free using your method, and wonder. It is expensive but if you are patient, you can get it on sale. I've seen it several times for half price.
jakeh0 Mar 2, 2010 at 11:44 am
50 bucks?
quiverskeep Mar 2, 2010 at 11:50 am
This upgrade worked wonders for me - bluetooth is working flawlessly now (so far). Yay for Tether!
Tha Riddler Mar 2, 2010 at 12:01 pm
Ahh nice this loads almost instantly instead of the previous versions slow start.
As for buying this as an app...it was the first thing I got the same day I got my 9550... EXTREMELY easy and Verizon dosent see it as tethering since it uses the data plan. I paid the full 50 and have used it all day every day since without any worries from big red.
shura1980#cb Mar 2, 2010 at 12:47 pm
How do I get the update if I already have the software?
bighap Mar 2, 2010 at 12:55 pm
Direct from their website.
http://tether.com/t/tether.jad (BB)
http://tether.com/t/setupdrv.exe (pc)
http://tether.com/t/Tether.dmg (mac)
Floont Mar 2, 2010 at 5:20 pm
Thanks for the direct links. The upgrade on my Tour worked flawlessly.
It seems to start faster than the previous version. I wonder what they tweaked.
Maiev Mar 2, 2010 at 12:54 pm
They had a promotion before of 20 bucks for the app, so no I wouldn't pay 50 for the app. 30 difference on an app is steep!
Plus I can do it for free lol! But I guess it's nice for people who can't or don't know how to get the free one working :)

Blackberry App World displays version 1.2 (which I have installed).
The "updated" version posted on Tether's website is 1.1.0.2
Anybody know the story here?
degrubbs3 Mar 2, 2010 at 1:46 pm
Too bad you have to reinstall it everytime you shut it down. Some sort of registry error.
scopeman Mar 2, 2010 at 2:12 pm
I have looked at the tether.com website and could not find anything regarding an update. Blackberry app world has it as v.1.2 and crackberry.com has as 1.1.0.2. So which one is correct, and how do I download the update since I already have v.1.1.
I certainly hope I do not have to purchase another copy for another $50!
Firf Mar 2, 2010 at 3:25 pm
Version 1.1.0.2 is the latest PC Application version, Version 1.2 is the latest BB Application version. Both are updates from prior versions. No confusion required ;)
You can get the update via the links that someone else posted, or you can download the trial and it will automatically check for registration on the first load and will change to the full version.
Once installed, click on your BB menu button and you will have the option to download the PC SETUP files to your BB and then move them to your PC. Once moved to your PC, install the setup.exe and you are done.
Some folks reported an Error Code 5 on the PC installation of the new version if the old one was not removed first. Simply hit 'ignore' and continue and it works fine (the file that is 'in use' is not updated in the new version).
Also, for those of you who used Tether when it was still called TetherBerry, you may have two duplicate services running in windows. You can 'disable' the TetherBerry service and just leave the Tether service alone.
Finally, the Bluetooth option was already available on the prior version, so I think this was only a UI / bug fix update (still worth the update).
No costs involved.
Hope this settles folks down and it useful to someone ;)
P.S. I will admit that Tether's website is terrible at support. No search capabilities for its forums (never even heard of a forum without search), contact link is hard to find and they do not email or posts notices / links for new releases). Their email support is pretty good once you figure out how to reach them. The product rocks, too bad they can't figure out the customer support and satisfaction part...
hugoalx23 Mar 2, 2010 at 3:47 pm
can't get it to work on bluetooth.slow on usb. support is terrible.
just terrible.
mrich70 Mar 2, 2010 at 5:05 pm
I can finally connect via bluetooth with the updated version. Haven't really noticed a speed difference with the UI. However I have loved this program since day one.
TwilightZone59 Mar 2, 2010 at 5:23 pm
bought it ... using it now ... luv it.
y0us3f Mar 2, 2010 at 5:37 pm
why isnt there a trial version ! i want to test it before buying it ! 50$ is not that easy to pay
Kholya Mar 2, 2010 at 7:18 pm
There may be a perfectly good answer, and if there is one, I'm honestly interested, but here is why I am confused: assuming you have your blackberry connected to your computer via bluetooth or USB, in Blackberry Desktop Manager, one simply goes to IP Modem and then clicks on Connect and voila ... you're tethered. I use this method regularly and never have a problem with connection or speed, so why would I spend $50 on an app to do what RIM has already supplied me with the tools to do? What does this app do that the method mentioned here does not?
anderl72 Mar 3, 2010 at 4:14 am
some carriers and / or Companies do not allow Tethering via the Blackberry Desktop Manager, I am on Vodafone NL running BIS & BES.
My company does not allow me to tether via BES as per the IT policy of my company.
I can connect via BIS and get a Dutch IP, this can be useful if you play Online Gambling ;)
I can connect via Tetheer and get a US IP, which can be quite handy for a European ;)
What I do not like is that the DATA goes via a Tether Server, in theory they could read all the data running over their server .....

When I download the app on my BB (Tour) it asks for a code, which I don't have...HELP!
