does this get me unlimited internet data?.. or will Verizon charge e a billion dollars like it did before when I hooke it up to my laptop ...

Posted by 00stryder Thursday, Nov 03, 2011 206 days ago

It still registers as data use so it can't give you unlimited data if you don't already have it on your plan. It just saves you from having to purchase a separate "tethering" plan in addition to your standard BB data plan. (So yes, you will be charged extra if you go over your limit.)

I dont get it. why pay 30 bucks for something I can do with the desktop software for free??

Telus told me I get free wifi hotspot under my BIS plan... so, why buy this one? I would wait for the Bold 9900 OS 7.1

Exactly.

That's what I'm doing :)

Most carriers charge for this capability. The new WiFi capability will be no exception. Carriers will try to monetize....

Don't Blackberrys let you tether anyway if you have Desktop Manager?

Most carriers charge for this capability. We go through your existing data plan.

I'm just gonna ask because I have a raging headache and can't find exactly what I just want to know: I have AT&T. I have the $25/month data plan (which to my understanding is NOT unlimited). I would use Tether at home, on my laptop, maybe one or two evenings a week. To surf....you know, whatever ;)

Is this where overages would come in? Is it crazy expensive when you go over whatever data plan you have? Last week I called about Tether" and they said I was basicaly a oron for paying $50 for an AP but their "tethering" service is $50 ER MONTH. help me with the basics and I promise I'll shut up.

Lastly, here is what my data usage shows according to AT&T:

AT&T charges $45/month to tether through BBDM. It is a violation of your contract to tether in other ways.

"... Furthermore, plans(unless specifically designated for tethering usage) cannot be used for any applications that tether the device (through use of, including without limitation, connection kits, other phone/PDA-to computer accessories, Bluetooth® or any other wireless technology) to Personal Computers ..."
http://www.wireless.att.com/cell-phone-service/specials/iPhone3G_ATT_ter...

I tether very infrequently (only when WiFi is not available and I really need a connection), so the $45/4GB plan is excessive. Even the $25/2GB plan is more than I really need.

My concern is that, after paying $30 for a tether app, AT&T will enforce their contract (by either disabling the unofficial capability or by forcing the $45 plan).

Everything I've read indicates you don't need Tether? What gives?

Dont need it for my Playbook! BUT I would be interested in this if I could use it with my Ipad, any idea if this will work?

Thether does not work on any tablet as of yet, they have "been working on it" for like 18 months now.

Sprint blocks the desktop manager tethering feature so buying this program was an easy decision for me. I paid 49.99 for tether and it was worth every penny! Greatest app of all time! (in my Muhammad Ali voice)

Hey Adam...
FYI. The link you provided takes me to the old version.
I already had v1.4.4.6 on my device.
The link here takes me to the old v1.4.4.4.
I had to go direct to the Tether.com site to get v1.4.5.0.

Just thought I would let you know...

For the love of god give it a rest with tether already!

I would suspect all that want it have it by now. And everybody else just uses Desktop manager for free like me. Enough with the plugging of this app and plug something new for a change

Just don't read the article if you don't care about it. And please don't comment if you don't care about it or have nothing useful. Ya Hater.

I love this app! Works great on my Bold 9930 and Macbook Pro! If your network charges for tethering like mine (verizon) then you cant go wrong with this!
