Tether is one of the most popular apps for BlackBerry, and I can say it's one I have used in the past with great success. Tether is an application that allows your PC to take advantage of your Blackberry's data plan, allowing you to access the Internet on your laptop anywhere there is cellular coverage from your BlackBerry. It doesn't come without a cost though, as most good things don't. If you've been waiting for Tether to go on sale before you buy, this is your lucky break! You can pick up Tether for BlackBerry (or for Android, for you bi-mobile types) for half off, bringing the price down to $24.99 for a limited time.
On top of this sale, Tether is giving away a BlackBerry Playbook! To enter all you need to do is: 1) Leave a review of Tether on BlackBerry AppWorld, either good or bad. 2) Give them your email and username to enter into the drawing. Easy peasy! Please note, the PlayBook contest is all Tether, CrackBerry is just helping spread the word. Leaving a comment here will not enter you in the contest, nor will it increase your chances of winning.

whats is the max speed with this if I am using Bold 9700 with OS6?
I tried without tehter via Bluetooth DUN on Mac and max speed with 3G on Bold was somewhere about 0,4- 0,5 Mbps...
Connor83 Jun 27, 2011 at 2:04 pm
It depends on your speed. On my 9700 OS6 at&T I got about 800-900k. They say you can get up to 1.8Mb but I live in utah. And not the good sevice area.
stankis Jun 27, 2011 at 2:09 pm
avg 3G speed in my side is about 10-13 Mbps... My service provider is not cuting any speeds for BB services.
your speed was w/ or w/o tehter app?
shabbs Jun 27, 2011 at 7:37 pm
On which BlackBerry device do you get these speeds? PlayBook?
stankis Jun 28, 2011 at 2:32 am
I`m located in Latvia on Bite network. Here 3G avg is about 10 Mbps as I told. Max speed 21 Mbps, but anyway such speed can be reached with Broadband modem. I know that my BB wont give me such speed because it doesn`t support such high speed, but what is the max speed for it if I use Bluetooth DUN to my BB 9700 ( OS 6) on MacBook?
stankis Jun 28, 2011 at 5:50 am
UPDATE:
I finnaly managed connetc my PC ( Win7) with my BB 9700 ( OS6) using BT DUN option and got download speed up to 1.5 Mbps.. :) So does any Mac user can help me make my Macbook to reach that speed, because now I know that it is possible... :)
shabbs Jun 28, 2011 at 9:46 am
The "theoretical" max for a 9700 using 3G is 3.6 Mbps, but I don't think anyone has ever seen near that speed in the real world, and most top out at half that on an ideal connection.
I've tethered my laptop running Win7 with my 9700 several times (using Desktop Manager) and I can't recall the speeds I got, but I was quite impressed with the overall performance. It was very useable.

I've had Tether for a while, and it works great between my Laptop and 9650. Now if they just had a PlayBook app. Bridge is cool, but right now the Bridge Browser is toooo buggy.

I've had tether for over a year now but its so damn slow if a page is heavy I need to load it few times till it actually loads so far to me it was a waste of money! Using curve 8530 on sprint

I get a message saying, "This application is not available for your device or your carrier."
I'm on AT&T w/a Torch 9800.
TomCanuck Jun 27, 2011 at 2:14 pm
App World shows $30 on the app info page, but wants $50 on the "confirm payment" page....
I already tried holding alt and hitting RST :\
PostMortem Jun 27, 2011 at 3:19 pm
Same here, says $29.99. I didn't even go any further than that.
tuffy100 Jun 27, 2011 at 6:55 pm

raemax08 Jun 27, 2011 at 2:43 pm
I LOVE Tether. I have had it for a while now and don't know what I would do without it. I WISH it would come to the Playbook.
Tether Rocks!!!
the brother Jun 27, 2011 at 2:47 pm
i won a copy of this from Crackberry but haven't realy played with it too much. my carrier (Rogers in Canada) will not allow tethering via DM on a plan less than 500mb. will tether?
also, what is the difference in tethering via DM vs tether for BB?
jthep Jun 27, 2011 at 2:56 pm
This is the most useful app I have ever downloaded. It circumvents the monthly bills for air cards or tethering through a carrier for an extra monthly fee. Buy it once and dl, share your phone's data plan for free forever with no extra monthly fees!!!
PostMortem Jun 27, 2011 at 3:24 pm
Wish it were available for the PlayBook. Should have put this as one of the 20 apps I want on the PB contest.
jav3lin Jun 27, 2011 at 7:17 pm

No BB Drone Jun 28, 2011 at 4:57 am
why would I need this when I can tether via desktop manager and get a much more stable reliable faster speed.
Anyway this should not even be called tethering , tethering is my phoen turning into a wifi device and being able to tether my ipod /ipod etc.
you all are gettign ripped off for 30 bucks
ayo26 Jun 28, 2011 at 7:49 am
Of course its on sale again. With OS 7 out in a few weeks no one needs tether anymore. BlackBerry as a wifi hotspot or tether it with one computer? Thats a simple one, isnt it?
MondoB Jun 28, 2011 at 11:28 am
I'd love to leave a comment on App World for a chance at the Playbook. But App World says Tether is not available for my device or carrier. Odd, since I've been using it for a year on my AT&T Torch 9800, which IS listed under Supported Devices.
But because of that message, I can't leave a review.
ETA: Nevermind. It is a supported device, but not available for AT&T customers. Good thing I got it from another site that doesn't cater to the Empire's restrictions.
optimus_v Jun 28, 2011 at 12:50 pm
The TETHER application is a scam.
Modem tethering is a function that comes for free with all Blackberries.
