Much in the same fashion as Rogers did one year ago, TELUS is introducing NFC-enabled SIM cards to be used for mobile banking services. The new SIM will be available on October 10th though sadly it looks like it will only be compatible with the BlackBerry Bold 9900 - not any BlackBerry 10 devices (at least for now).

Though the UK and Middle East were the first confirmed regions to get the BlackBerry Z30, TELUS in Canada wasn't shy about chiming in with today's announcement to say that they'll be picking up the big-screened beaut eventually as well. Rogers told us they didn't have any info on the Z30 to share right now, and Bell is all in and will be offering Z30 soon. Most regions should likely have access to the Z30 by the holidays, in any case.

The BlackBerry Q5 went on sale today across Canada for about $50 on a two-year contract or $200 on a $150 tab, which falls in line with what we were expecting. Virgin has an exclusive on the red version, and elsewhere you'll only have the black model, even though we've seen the Q5 in white and pink during the launch. Here are some links to everybody putting this on store shelves.

In early June the CRTC announced a plan that would place some limitations on Canadian carriers including capping data and roaming charges and allowing customers to cancel contracts after just two years with no additional fees. Both TELUS and Bell now offer the white Q10, TELUS has theirs front and center in the online store, as does Bell. Both are $199 on a three-year term, or $700 up-front. The wireless landscape in Canada is changing once again as TELUS has now announced they've agreed to acquire Mobilicity. The deal worth $380 million will still need to be approved by the Competition Bureau, Industry Canada, and Mobilicity's debtholders. Over the past little while, Mobilicity was looking to have the company change hands due to financial concerns but if all goes through, it will ensure all 250,000 Mobilicity customers continue to have service without disruption.

"A concern for our customers and employees led us to approach TELUS, which has a reputation for a strong customer focus, as evidenced by their industry leading client loyalty," said Stewart Lyons, Mobilicity President. "I am confident TELUS will look after our employees and our customers, mitigating any disruption to their service, while offering the best outcome for all stakeholders."

In addition to maintaining service for customers, TELUS will also retain all 150 Mobilicity employees throughout the transition process and will offer long term employment to those employees. If you're looking for the full details, the press release from TELUS and Mobilicity can be found below.

If you're looking to get a new BlackBerry Q10 but one isn't available for your carrier, you still have options. Thankfully in most cases you can simply unlock your BlackBerry Q10 and use it on another carrier providing the networks are compatible (you can use a Rogers device on AT&T for example - more on this below).

Unlocking also proves useful if you are a frequent international traveler as you aren't confined to your carrier's roaming plan and can instead use a local prepaid SIM card in an unlocked device.

While Kevin was getting all drooly over his white BlackBerry Z10 from Rogers, I got up close and personal with the TELUS retail packaging. Though the contents remain more or less the same, it solidifies a few things about what you get from the store. For one, there's minimal carrier branding, both on the box and on the device. Secondly, there are the bare essentials for accessories; you get a USB cable, wall charger, and headphones.

The Brits got first stab at the BlackBerry Z10, and now Canada is next up. Today the Z10 is available on Rogers, Bell, and TELUS, but what's the difference? Pretty slight at the end of the day, but here are the details on their plans in an easy-to-compare format. This is important stuff to know if you're going to be signing on to a three-year commitment, though there are always tab and off-contract options available.

If you really need convincing as to whether or not the BlackBerry Z10 is worth the investment, you'll probably want to check out our insanely long review. Keep in mind that while those three-year commitments may be daunting, the termination fees scale with how long you have left on your contract and are much better than they used to be. Without further ado, here's our breakdown of Canadian service plans for the BlackBerry Z10.

Jan 24, 2013 Rumored BlackBerry Z10 in Canada release date emerges

So there have been some rumors flying around over Twitter, Facebook, the CrackBerry forums, two-way pagers, chain letters and telegraph the last few days about a rumored release date for the BlackBerry Z10 here in Canada (yes I can say "here in Canada" since I'm actually in Canada for once). It's being said that the BlackBerry Z10 will arrive at Telus and Bell on February 5th in both black and white models.

While we can't say either way if this is true, we aren't ruling anything out just yet. No word on Rogers yet in most of the rumors that are floating around, but given Roger's long standing support for BlackBerry over the years we have to believe they'd be right there at the front of the line to launch BB10 as well.

Aug 28, 2012 TELUS on BlackBerry 10 – Will one of Canada’s largest carriers be behind the all-new BlackBerry?

It’s no question that BlackBerry is pushing ahead with the launch of BlackBerry 10. It’s evident in the employee morale, the developer support and even the carrier support. While Kevin was in Waterloo at RIM headquarters, he discussed the carrier support of BlackBerry 10 with Frank Boulben. Mr. Boulben was quite adamant that carriers shared a similar enthusiasm for the new product. Recently I had the chance to visit the TELUS Toronto office during an event and got to talk shop with James Bishop who is Manager of Product Marketing at TELUS, and Brent Johnston who is VP Mobility Solutions at TELUS. Keep reading as we answer the question: Is TELUS behind the all-new BlackBerry and the BlackBerry 10 OS?
