I drive quite often, taking wee ones to school or to their activity locations etc and at the same time I have to keep in touch with the home base to make sure other members of the family are keeping with their daily routine too. That means I’ll have to be on the phone at certain times while I’m on the road, so it requires me to own a bluetooth headset. Bluetooth headsets have not always agreed with me, mainly because they never sit in my ear properly and fall out a lot, even with trying them out with the different sized plugs that come in the packaging. There are tons of hands-free solutions for smartphone users. Wireless headsets, wired headsets, stereo headphones, car kits, speakerphones and more. They all work in a "to each his own" kind of way, with users taking what works best for them as their favorite option. When on the go I typically like to use the BlackBerry Visor in my car for hands-free use, but sometimes turn to my old HS-300 as a backup. While doing some house cleaning this weekend I had the television playing in the background and caught the tail end of a story in regards to bans on talking on cell phones while driving. I *think* the story I saw was referring to California, and essentially stated that despite the bans on talking on your cell phone while driving (while holding the phone in your hand) being in effect for a while now, there has been no decrease to the rate of car accidents involving cell phones. There are a few ways you can look at a statement like that: are people not using hands-free solutions still and just saying they were after an incident? are (some) hands-free solutions just as distracting as holding the phone in your hand and talking? maybe it's texting vs. talking that's the real culprit? You get the idea.
