One of my personal favorite and most used apps for BlackBerry, Google Maps, just got an update to v4.5.2. We aren't seeing a changelog posted so our guess is that this is just a bug squishing release. The previous version was 4.5.1 which we saw released back in October of last year. If you notice any significant changes drop a comment below, or discuss your findings in the forums! To download the update head over to m.google.com/maps on your BlackBerry. Thanks to everyone that sent this in!

Google Maps is one of my favorite, free BlackBerry applications and I'm guessing a lot of you all out there use it as well. Google, notorious for not offering any change logs has now updated Google Maps to version 4.5.1. Current users can grab the download from Google Maps mobile link and get upgraded today. If you spot any changes within the app be sure to let us know in the comments. The only thing I noticed in a brief check was that it seemed to lock onto location faster but, that could just have been my area as well.

CrackBerry guide to BlackBerry taxi and transit apps

Get from Point A to Point B with these BlackBerry apps!

Welcome to the CrackBerry Guide to Taxi and Transit applications. If you thought your BlackBerry helped you while in transit only when you’re behind the wheel, then think again. I’m not talking about keeping entertained or catching up on email either. Before you hail a cab, or before you step off of the train, you can use BlackBerry applications to help you every step of the way. Well not every step; if you want a seat without gum stuck to it, you have to look for one yourself.

I remember the first time I was introduced to the wonder that is the subway system. I know it sounds funny, but this is coming from a guy who spent the first 10 years of his life in a town so small, he and his brother and sister were the only ginger kids in town; but I digress. Not knowing where I was going, I blindly followed the friends I was visiting. Dodging through crowds, rushing to the next platform, the first few trips can be a little confusing- almost a bit scary, especially in an unfamiliar town. It doesn’t have to be. Load the following apps onto your BlackBerry, and you’ll do just fine.

BlackBerrys and biker shorts! Google Maps get updated to version 4.2

<a href='http://crackberry.com/blackberrys-and-biker-shorts-google-maps-get-updated-version-4-2' title='BlackBerrys and biker shorts!

Recently, Google released an update to BlackBerry owners who use Google Maps. With this update, version 4.2 gives us new features, like biking directions. You will be able to retrieve bicycle specific lanes, trails and directions, rather than strictly roadways. You and your biker gang (rather, your bicycle gang) can now enjoy the power of Google Maps - your way. This is especially apparent with the newly added Bicycle Layer on the map. This layer will display where the bike-only trails, as well as roads with or without a dedicated lane.

Other updates include: being able to share locations with your friends and the ability to view detailed information on the location in question. As you search for a hot spot, you will see additional options that allow you to check out (or start) the latest ‘buzz’ on this location, with images and check out a street view. I like being able to send out a map location of where you are via SMS or email. It’s the perfect way to draw your friends to a new hangout. To download the latest version, point your mobile browser to m.google.com/maps

Google Maps for BlackBerry has been updated to v4.0.1 and now includes a Buzz layer. If you're a Buzz user (is anyone actually using it?) you'll be able to get some more cool features in Google Maps with this new version. You can turn the layer on or off from the standard map, and also have the ability to search by voice and use synchronized starring. The update is a pretty big jump from the previous version, but we're not sure if any other updates are included in the release. To download the update head to m.google.com/maps from your device.

Continuing the ongoing tradition started in 1955 Norad will be heading up the efforts to track Santa as he reaches out to the world bearing gifts and eating all our darn cookies. You can of course, stay up to date on the big guys location through the Norad site but once again Google has stepped up to the plate and offered their services to help Norad spread the word.

Using Google maps and Google Earth you can know exactly when to head off to bed so you don't end up as a last minute addition to the naughty list by being awake when Santas sleigh rolls into your tow..err, roof. You can grab Google maps mobile for your BlackBerry and when you need to know Santas location just search "Santa" and you'll get those GPS readings.
