The game has now made its way to BlackBerry smartphones and although it will never be as good to play as on the tablet or when (if) we have it on BlackBerry 10, it will cure your Zombie needs if you so desire.

French firefighters making the most of the BlackBerry solution

We have seen various emergency services using the BlackBerry solution over the years. We've covered a selection of police forces and health organisations and now it is time for the fire service to show off how they are utilizing BlackBerry as well. RIM UK has uploaded a video to their YouTube channel detailing how a fire department in Northern France have been getting on with the BlackBerry solution.

Linkedin for BlackBerry smartphones updated - but we need more from it

LinkedIn got a welcome update over the weekend to version 2.1.0.37 but unfortunately the improvements were pretty minor. The new features just include contact sync & login improvements and although this is a step in the right direction it isn't quite enough for me.

While it is great that we now have a LinkedIn application for BlackBerry smartphones it's still lagging behind in terms of functionality compared to the Android and iOS versions. What I need from the app is proper notifications. If I have the app on my BlackBerry I don't want to get and email telling me I have message - I want the app to tell me and give me a Splat.

Can you guess the word with Hangman Challenge for BlackBerry smartphones?

When it comes to playing Hangman on your BlackBerry there are a few options. Hangman Challenge arrived in App World this week so I thought I would give it a whirl. I have always been pretty poor at playing hangman and, as you can see in the video, nothing has changed. However I wanted to give this particular game a go as from the screen shots it looked pretty nice on the eye.

Once in the game I wasn't disappointed. Although simple to play the layout and the way it works is smooth and graphically pleasing. The color choices the developer has used are great -- even down to the Hangman Challenge icon that will sit in your menu. Hover over it and the image changes. Not revolutionary but a nice touch. If you are as bad as me at the game you will be pleased to know there is an option for tips to help you guess the word.

Hangman Challenge is free to download and well worth it if you have some time to kill. Both touch screen and non-touch devices are supported so if you are on one of the later touch screen models you have the option to use screen taps or to stick with using the optical track pad. I used the game on my Bold 9900 and it ran like a dream.

The Oatmeal never ceases to make me laugh, and this topic hit so close to home, I couldn't help but share it. Titled "Why I love and hate having a smartphone", it sounds all too familiar and I couldn't help but chuckle while reading it. The above cartoon is just an excerpt from the blog, as the entire post is too long to fit here, so follow the link below for the rest of the comics.
