Using your BlackBerry PlayBook for family game night

I use my BlackBerry PlayBook for all kinds of things. I browse the web from the couch, view my recipes in Evernote in the kitchen and even take video of my kids galavanting around the house. One of my favorite things however is using my PlayBook for family game night. The Zeis family are a competitive bunch, so we like to rock out a game night at least once a week. Although the PlayBook is a great work tool, there are also some great games available that make it fun for the whole family. The games are just one part of the equation though -- keep reading to see how I use my BlackBerry PlayBook to have an awesome family game night.

Quick Look at WOWee One VUE - HDMI pico projector

In a darkened room at the South Hall of CES 2012, an image springs to life. Gracefully, a sea turtle swims across the wall. A cityscape slowly pans by. A volcano erupts. I'm watching the BlackBerry PlayBook's HD Demo video, but I'm not watching it on the PlayBook itself. Attached to the BlackBerry tablet is a pocket-sized pico projector, the WOWee ONE VUE.

Don't let that "pocket-sized" designation fool you. Using a green light laser, the projector is able to create images up to 8 feet across at a resolution of 480p in full color. The device features an infinite focus ability that means no matter how close or far away the projector is from the screen/wall/ceiling, the video always stays in focus. While the VUE doesn't project video in 1080p, the bright, clear image; two hour battery life; and very small size are well worth the tradeoff. Weighing a mere 4.1 oz (117g), the projector is highly portable.

How To Use Presentation Mode on the BlackBerry PlayBook When Hooked up to an External Display

Video PlayBook 101: How to use BlackBerry Presentation Mode when the BlackBerry PlayBook is hooked up to an external display via HDMI

[ youtube video link for mobile viewing ]

One of the quick videos I whipped up for our indepth BlackBerry PlayBook Review was demonstrating BlackBerry Presenter Mode on the BlackBerry PlayBook. To take advantage of Presenter Mode, you first need to hook the PlayBook up to an external display device via an HDMI cable, such as a television, monitor or projector.

Once the PlayBook is hooked up via HDMI, you can jump into Settings > HDMI on the PlayBook to control different output settings. Though the PlayBook's display is 1024 x 600, it can output to a much higher resolution, and you can change up the settings for things like aspect ratio. I've watched a few full length movies now from the PlayBook on my television and have been loving it!
