With the BlackBerry 10 SDK's now having gone gold, a lot of developers are running through the code and getting their apps prepared for release. Over at 89 Apps, they've made note of some finer details about the "Remember" app that will be loaded with BlackBerry 10. The app appears to offer system wide integration with Evernote through the PIM API that uses the Notebooks services:

Notebooks let you create, store, and manipulate lists of actionable or non-actionable items. For example, you might create a notebook that represents a grocery list, which contains items to purchase. Or, you could create a notebook consisting of gifts you’d like for your birthday. You can use the Notebook APIs to add, remove, or update items in notebooks, create new notebooks, and so on.

You can essentially create four types of Notebooks:

• Generic: notebook stored locally on device
• ActiveSyncMemo: synced to your ActiveSync account as a Memo (note)
• ActiveSyncTask: synced to your ActiveSync account as a Task (a todo item)
• Evernote: synced to your Evernote account

That's a nice touch, create a note and then optionally have it sync to Evernote. To add to that a little bit further, if you dig into it a bit deeper you'll find it's all part of the system settings meaning, when you set up the device you can create the relationship alongside your Email, Twitter, Facebook and LinkedIn accounts. Makes you wonder what else is baked into BlackBerry 10 as a core function that has yet to be revealed.

It seems that the popular application Evernote for BlackBerry smartphones has received a small update in the last day or so to version 3.5.423. I'm not seeing the update just yet in the UK but I'm sure it will prompt users later in the day. While the changes in the update seem to only be bug fixes it always gives us BlackBerry users a good feeling when we see an app get updated - or is that just me?

If you missed our article some time ago why you should use Evernote it well worth reading. The features within the app are quite outstanding and with the application syncing between the BlackBerry smartphone, PC/Mac and PlayBook it has to be the best note taking app on the market - although it does so much more.

You can grab the download below and if it is still showing as version 3.5.419 just be patient and the update will hit you soon. If you haven't given Evernote a try before I would highly recommend you do. It's kind of addictive.

Do you use Dropbox?

It's the August Long Weekend in Canada, so I've been out at the lake the last couple of days chilling with my family. I don't do this enough, so it's nice to take some time to visit, catch up and re-live my youth a bit.

I actually consider my two older brothers to be pretty good examples of normal mainstream technology consumers (I know people like myself who work in this space tend to fall outside of normal), so I like to question them and get their feedback on things whenever I have the chance.

My middle brother Mark is a mechanical engineer (he's a smart guy) and when it comes to gadgets, runs the mix of a BlackBerry / Apple / PC household. Him and his wife use BlackBerrys (Torch 9810 and Bold 9900), the kids each have an iPod Touch, there is both a PlayBook and an iPad in the house and while they have historically been PC users, there's now a Mac in the house too. That's a good mix of gear, so I expect him to be pretty in the know.

Consider myself shocked last night when I brought up Dropbox and he didn't know what I was talking about. Then I asked my oldest brother Tony (a shops teacher) and he didn't know either. I was flabergasted! We were debating the tech changes in the world over the past few years and what's been good and bad, and I mentioned Dropbox as one of those newer services that has been life changing. Seriously, I can't even imagine going back to a life without Dropbox.

The fact that my bros had never heard of Dropbox before, nevermind the fact they weren't using it, got me wondering how many of our CrackBerry readers are using it. I sort of assumed it was beyond the early adopter stage and already quite mainstream, but maybe it still has a way to go before coming a household name. I use my BlackBerry PlayBook for all kinds of things. I browse the web from the couch, view my recipes in Evernote in the kitchen and even take video of my kids galavanting around the house. One of my favorite things however is using my PlayBook for family game night. The Zeis family are a competitive bunch, so we like to rock out a game night at least once a week. A little while back now, the folks from Evernote held a beta testing phase of their app for the BlackBerry PlayBook that served to correct issues found in the previously available v1.2. With the testing done and some bugs squashed, Evernote for the BlackBerry PlayBook is once again available in BlackBerry App World and is ready for download as v1.3. If you're an Evernote user, give it a go and let us know how things are working. Thus far, on my PlayBook all seems to be running better than ever.

Not long ago, the team at Evernote posted on their blog that they are working on an update for the PlayBook version of their app. This update is vital for many Evernote users, as it is anticipated that it will fix the bugs that were introduced when the PlayBook OS was updated to 2.0.

Today Evernote team member Karolyn took to their blog once again to let those interested know that they do indeed have a beta build in testing that contains a fix for the text control issue that is currently plaguing the app. They are hoping to have it available in App World as soon as possible, but in the meantime they are looking for beta testers on OS 2.0 as well as the 2.1 developer beta OS. We here at CrackBerry use Evernote quite a bit, and we know that many of our readers do as well. While the app is available for both BlackBerry smartphones and the BlackBerry PlayBook, it is pretty well known that since PlayBook OS 2.0 was released, that version of the app has serious issues that makes it virtually unusable on the tablet, which is disappointing to say the least. There appears to be some light at the end of the tunnel though, as Evernote took to their blog earlier this week to update PlayBook users on the progress of the updated version.

Evernote is one of the CrackBerry staff's favorite apps, and it's really no wonder why. It's versatile, easy to use, and cross platform syncing ensures that you'll always have your stuff when you need it, no matter what device you're on. Evernote also receives fairly frequent updates, and today's update brings the BlackBerry app to v3.5.407. While not a huge jump from the last version, this one does have a couple of important fixes.

• Fix issue with BES blocking any connection
• Fix issue on note loading blocking syncing

It's Health & Fitness Month at Mobile Nations!

When we came up with the idea of a Mobile Nations Fitness Challenge while at CES this year, I instantly started thinking about how I could best use my mobile devices to help reach my goal. Ultimately I am aiming to lose weight on what I'm calling my "no more fat kid" diet. While there are plenty of fitness and health oriented apps out there for BlackBerry, I really wanted to just keep track of things on my own. I don't need fancy graphs or reports to tell me what I'm doing right or wrong, I just want to see my progress how I lay it down. Evernote couldn't be a better solution for this. I already told you how I use Evernote and why I love it and now for the course of my diet I can keep track of my meals, my weight, my workouts (or lack there of) and whatever else I need. If you frequent using Evernote on your BlackBerry PlayBook, you'll want to go ahead and check for updates when you get a chance. Evernote for PlayBook has been updated from v1.1.1 to v1.2 in BlackBerry App World and is now available for download.

Sadly, Evernote has been slacking when it comes to change logs being put in the descriptions -- so you'll have to dig through the app itself in order to find out what improvements have been made. If you spot anything, let us know in the comments though with it being the same size as the last version, could just be bug fixes.

Evernote for BlackBerry has received an update today and is now available for download. Version 3.4 brings with it an updated home screen, better appending, the ability to choose notebooks and much more. I've been a big fan of Evernote for quite a while, so every update is a good one in my book. Evernote for BlackBerry PlayBook has recevied a small update and now sits at version 1.1.1. No sign of a change log to go along with this one, so if you notice anything fancy and new be sure to let us know. It does seems a bit snappier when navigation around, so we're assuming just some behind the scenes tweaks. Evernote still stays strong as one of my favorite mobile apps so hopefully the updates will keep coming. I was overjoyed when it finally landed on the PlayBook and can't wait to see more big name apps follow suit. Head to BlackBerry App World to grab the update.

I'm super excited that Evernote has just announced a bunch of awesome updates for the BlackBerry app. I just started using Evernote on my BlackBerry, PlayBook and computer, and it's helping me stay organized like never before. This update brings a ton of speed and some super cool new features.

When you launch the app on your BlackBerry, the first thing it's going to do is a Sync, pulling down thumbnails and basic info about your notes (titles, tags, etc). This allows you to browse your note list, even when offline. Since more of the note content will be stored on your device, browsing and opening notes is way faster now.

A feature that was missing all this time is the ability to create notes without a network connection. Now you can do just that, creating new notes with text, audio, and photos. Evernote will pin these to the top of your note list and mark them as pending. Once you are connected to the network again, they will sync to your account like normal. Another part of this, once you create or view a note on your device, it is stored locally, so you may view it again, even offline.

More app enhancements include:

• Better Sync: Exiting the application during sync will pause the sync. It will pick up where it left off when you return.
• Attach any file type: Free and Premium users can add any file stored on the device or SD card (as long as it falls under the size restrictions) to a note.
• Better use of the SD card: Evernote makes better use of the SD card so that you can store more and retrieve things faster.

Evernote has released a new beta version of their BlackBerry app that is now available for testing. The update sits at version 3.3.333 (that's a lot of 3's) and brings along offline notes as well as various minor tweaks. The offline notes feature allows Evernote to download notes to your device so a network connection isn't required for viewing. This means much faster load times and the ability to load notes when your device has no service. Mixed in are some various tweaks and fixes as well. I'll admit I was a late adopter to the Evernote game. I never really saw the need for it and since I was a big notebook user (still love my Moleskines) I figured I could get by without it. I tried something like 3 or 4 times to get into it, but each time I'd grow bored and give up. On my last attempt to make it work for me, I finally figured out ways to make it work for me and prove itself useful and it did just that. Evernote has a pretty good BlackBerry app (but it could be helped out with some enhancements likes its iOS and Android counterparts) that works great when on the go as well as an app for the BlackBerry PlayBook. Evernote for BlackBerry has received a pretty big update. The app now resides at version 3.1.286 and along with some tweaks it sports a fancy new overhauled UI. The homescreen is much cleaner now and way easier to navigate. Premium users can now attach files to notes as well which is a huge bonues. The app now has a more powerful search as well as some bug fixes and enhancements. One of my favorite, albeit basic apps for BlackBerry just got a nice little update. Evernote now sits at version 3.0.271 and the biggest change within the app is that it now fully supports a wide array of OS' including BlackBerry 6. Personally, I use Evernote for a lot of things. Keeping track of URL's, note taking, voice memos and just simple reminders.
