BlackBerry Curve 9320

In preparation for the full review of the new BlackBerry Curve 9320 here at CrackBerry, we thought we would give you a little teaser of what's to come. Although I am not doing the full review myself, I felt that a UK perspective on RIM's latest creation wouldn't do any harm.

Let's face it, here in Great Britain the BlackBerry has been the country's best selling smartphone for the last two consecutive years, and a big part of those sales are due to the Curve lineup of the 8520 and 9300. The 8520 is pretty ancient now and although the 9300 was upgradable to BlackBerry 6 that too is now running an out of date operating system.

So that's where the new guy steps in. No, not me ... I meant the Curve 9320.

With some improvements in hardware over its predecessors -- such as a bigger battery, more ROM and RAM -- and along with a better camera, it is a welcomed addition to the BlackBerry lineup. However, it is the OS where things have really stepped up.

Porsche Design BlackBerry p'9981

If you checked out Kevin's Porsche Design P'9981 BlackBerry Review and have concluded you need to own one, the next step is to track one down. Unlike other BlackBerry Smartphones you have purchased in the past, this one isn't available from your local carrier. Rather, you can pick up the P'9981 exclusively from Porsche Design stores around the globe (just make sure you walk in with $2,000).

You can use the dealer locator on the Porsche Design website to hunt through and find retailers, but to make it a little easier we've rounded up all the current store locations in one post. So if a Porsche Design P'9981 Smartphone from BlackBerry is indeed in your future, then what are you waiting for? Keep reading for the location nearest you and get one! If you do, make sure you head over to the CrackBerry forums and spread the love.

First Look: BlackBerry Dev 10 Alpha

BlackBerry 10 Dev Alpha

RIM has just announced that they will be giving a limited edition prototype device, BlackBerry Dev 10 Alpha, to developers at BlackBerry Jam in May. Thinking on this a bit and after a quick chat with Kevin (who is working from the beach in Miami today) we realized that we've seen the device live and in color already. Back at CES 2012 we took a tour of the QNX-powered Porsche Concept Car and it had a very interesting display mounted on the dash. A quick holy @#$% moment and we realized that the device in the car is actually BlackBerry 10 Dev Alpha (inside a custom mount on the dash). We knew there was something special about the concept car, and the display on the dash definitely had us thinking. It had such an amazing display (crazy bright and super high res .. like beyond Apple retina. Really.) that it couldn't just be there for looks. Kevin actually swiped the display off camera and it moved just like the PlayBook OS. It was exactly what RIM has said the BlackBerry Dev 10 Alpha will be - not BlackBerry 10 hardware or OS, but more like the PlayBook OS running on a phone-sized device. Our hunch is that this is what the BlackBerry Colt originally was (which we know is no longer a consumer device) but more likely became the internal QNX/BB10 test device.

So what do you think? We'll have to wait a bit to actually get our hands on the device itself, but for now you can check out the QNX Porsche Concept Car video to see more of the BlackBerry 10 Dev Alpha.

BlackBerry Blade - A BlackBerry 10 concept[click above for larger image]

Wow wow WOW! Just wrapping up the day and this came across the old CrackBerry Tip line. The image above came from Toronto Design Firm Pixelcarve and totally made my day. Seen here is the BlackBerry Blade - their idea of what the first BlackBerry 10 device could look like. Though with a trackpad and BlackBerry menu and back keys this feels more like it should be a next generation BlackBerry 7 (or 8) Smartphone than one running on the QNX-based OS. I'm don't think we'll be seeing these buttons on BlackBerry 10 phones (like the PlayBook, BB10 phones will likely be more focused on the swipe experience and touch UI).

Regardless, as far as concept sliders go it's totally hot. The concept features an amazing 4.5 inch AMOLED display, quad-core 1.5GHz processor, Gorilla Glass and a 12MP camera. While the latest rumors are that the first BlackBerry 10 device won't have a keyboard, this slider is still pretty awesome.

What do you think - should the BlackBerry Blade be RIM's first BlackBerry 10 device? Or do you want something else like the BlackBerry London? Sound off in the comments!

TELUS BlackBerry Torch and Curve EOL

If you had plans to buy a BlackBerry Torch 9860 or Curve 9380 from TELUS, you may want to do it sooner rather than later. A picture sent in by a CrackBerry reader indicates that these two devices will reach their end-of-life on the Canadian carrier on April 15th and 30th respectively. Both of these devices have been on TELUS less than a year, with the Torch launching last August and the Curve just last November. More than likely TELUS will continue to sell these two devices (as opposed to returning them to RIM), but when stock is depleted it won't be replenished. Bring on the BlackBerry 10 devices! Thanks for sending this in tipster!

Another BlackBerry Curve 9320 sighting

BlackBerry Curve 9320

We haven't heard much about the rumored BlackBerry Curve 9320 lately, but it appears there are still some pre-release devices floating around. Forums member radewa posted up these photos of a Curve 9320 that was spotted out and about. Not much new to be seen here - another look at the screen and a quick shot of the dedicated BBM button (which is still pretty sweet). As a refresher, the Curve 9320 features 512MB of RAM, an EDOF camera, Wifi, Bluetooth and more. If all goes as planned the device should be available in some markets in the coming weeks. BlackBerry Curve 9320 First Look

Hands-on Photos of the BlackBerry Curve 9320!

BlackBerry Curve 9320

We first saw the BlackBerry Curve 9320 nearly a month ago when it was first leaked online. The device looks to be bound for India and other emerging markets and now the first images of the Curve 9320 have surfaced online. Nothing fancy here really -- It's a Curve through and through. The 9320 is sporting the "tic tac" buttons we've seen on the Bold 9790 and the Torch 9850/9860 and a classic Curve style. A silver bezel outlines the black hardware and almost reminds me of the Curve 8900. What's new (and very cool in my book) is the dedicated BBM button on the left side of the device. While we've seen the dual convenience keys disappear from the most recent devices, it's good to see two back in place here. The BlackBerry Curve 9320 features 3.2MP EDOF camera, 512MB RAM, Bluetooth, FM radio and more. Keep reading for another shot.

Cruising through the BlackBerry experience during BlackBerry DevCon Europe, we came across these sweet colored Curves. The Ballet Pink and Royal Purple Curve 9360 haven't had much press, although they have been seen around a few times before. Nothing fancy going on with either of these, but we always like to see how cool devices look with a splash of color. If you're looking to pick either of these up you may have to wait just a bit until they hit more carriers (you should see them rollout soon in Europe).

Take a closer look at both in the video above and keep reading for more images. Sexy Curves and they Know it!

Inside BlackBerry has posted up some pretty cool videos and a brief write up on just how BlackBerry smartphones are tested for durability. Like pretty much every other product that hits the market, your BlackBerry goes through any number of tests before it lands on your doorstep. From the water test to drop tests to a pretty insane bend test, the folks at RIM work hard making sure your device will stand up to the pressures of daily use. The bend test makes sure your device can handle a bit of flexing if you sit on it, and phones even gets shocked with an Electrostatic Discharge to make sure the components are safe and sound. Keep reading for more videos, then hit the link below for more on this. Very cool stuff!

BlackBerry Security

It's no secret that RIM has always been tops when it comes to security. BlackBerry smartphones have been used in government areas for years, mostly due to the ability to secure the devices and network. Today RIM announced that that BlackBerry OS 7 and 7.1 has earned FIPS 140-2 Certification by the National Institute of Standards and Technology and the Communications Security Establishment Canada. This means government agencies and consumers alike should be worry free when it comes to security on BlackBerry products. Keep reading for the full press release.
