RIM's new CEO, Thorsten Heins, has been a busy guy doing media interviews over the last couple of weeks. But yesterday he took some time to chat with Bay Street sell-side analysts in Toronto who cover the stock.
What did he say? We've had a chance to read through some notes from analysts who attended and here are the big points:
Georgia and Rene are joined by CrackBerry Kevin Michaluk to kickoff Mobile Nations Fitness Month. We break down how best to get started, set attainable goals, and get results, and address some of the most common questions and misconceptions. This is ZEN and TECH!
Winding down what was an absolutely an insanely busy week (seriously, I bet I gave almost as many interviews last week as RIM's new CEO did), I jumped on the Engadget Mobile Podcast with Myriam, Brad and Sean to talk BlackBerry. The Engadget Mobile crew was upfront about their disagreement and disappointment with most of the actions RIM has been taking as of late, so I knew what I was walking into. Heck, lots of CrackBerry readers warned me in advance to get ready for an ambush. Lol.
What followed was a GREAT discussion on BlackBerry. We covered a LOT of material on this show. Mistakes made, current challenges, strengths and opportunities ahead. It was good times and by the time the show wound down I think we even made a BlackBerry champion out of Sean (yay!).
Working on getting this blog post prepped for CrackBerry, I noticed some reader comments on Engadget's post that looked like the podcast went over pretty well, including "This is probably the most thought-provoking podcast I've ever listened to" and "Kevin was insightful and well spoken. RIM really should hire him." So if you haven't listened yet, do yourself a favor and give it a listen. I think this is one you'll want to hear. And be sure to sound off in the comments with your feedback. Enjoy the show!!
As of 21 hours ago we had no plans to record a CrackBerry Podcast today, but with news yesterday evening that Research In Motion has a new CEO we just had to. We got up early this morning for the RIM Conference call featuring Thorsten Heins, our new Fearless Leader of BlackBerry Nation. We kick things off above listening in to the call.... the visuals here are a little boring on the video (you can watch Kevin, Adam, Chris Umi and Simon in our early morning states), but the audio is solid and interesting. Thorsten did a great job on the call.
After the call at 28m35s we jump into our standard CrackBerry podcast and talk about the management changes at RIM and what it all means. Definitely a historic podcast and one to watch!
Mobile Nations editors Kevin Michaluk, Phil Nickinson, Rene Ritchie, Daniel Rubino, Derek Kessler, Simon Sage and Jared DiPane join Mickey and Joey of The Cell Phone Junkie to wrap-up the biggest events of the 2012 CES. Listen in!
Got something to say? Agree or disagree with something we said? Have something you want us to discuss on a future show? Don't just sit there yelling at the screen, dammit, let us know!
Ashley, Georgia, and special guest Kim talk RIM execs on a plane, Penny Arcade vs. bad marketers, the dangers of sex chat gone public, and games and accessories for iPad. This is Girls Gone Gadgets!
Following RIM's recent earnings report, our resident stock guru Chris Umiastowski wrote a debrief piece on it titled Is RIM a Total Train Wreck, or Just Under Marketed? The story definitely got the CrackBerry community engaged. Now on the latest episode of Stock Tock the guys get into this topic even further. Join Chris, Ed, and Rene as they talk Apple value, RIM's latest results, the uptake of Android, webOS going open source, Microsoft's mobile chances, HTML5 platforms, the future of LTE, and the year ahead. This is Mobile Nations Stock Talk.
Sweet! Things are continuing to grow around here on all fronts. Building upon our already broad network of podcasts, CrackBerry's longtime resident Enterprise Editors and Experts Craig Johnston and Isaac Kendall have fittingly kicked off a new Enterprise focused podcast for Mobile Nations (joined by good 'ole Rene Ritchie, who also has a lot of experience in IT and Enterprise). So join Craig, Isaac, and Rene as they kick off the new Mobile Nations Enterprise show with an introduction and look at the consumerization of IT. Heck, I haven't even watched this one... so am going to hit play on the video as soon as I hit publish on this post. Let's hope it's good! ;)
Kevin, Phil, Derek, Daniel, Georgia, and Rene take at look at the year in mobile, from BlackBerry to Android, webOS to Windows Phone, iPad to iPhone. Highs, lows, great new devices, frustrating delays, devastating losses, and a look ahead to 2012. This is Mobile Nations!
Here it is CrackBerry Nation, our 2011 BlackBerry Year in Review super show! Looking back, we can definitely say that 2011 wasn't the easiest of years for Research In Motion. The company's stock price steadily declined and the media sentiment against RIM this year in the US has been pretty much anything but positive. That said, going through the year month by month we still found plenty of excitement in 2011, and our outlook for 2012 is positive, even with news that BlackBerry 10 phones won't be hitting until late in the year. There's some vintage CrackBerry Kevin on this one you won't want to miss (blame the pot of espresso).
Sit back, relax and enjoy the show. You're gonna love it. Happy Holidays everybody. The CrackBerry Podcast will be back in 2012 crazier and crackier than ever!
If you've never checked out a CrackBerry Podcast before, this is definitely one to watch! We kick Episode 80 off with an interview, talking to Chris Wade who is working on the DingleBerry tool that is aiming to put PlayBook rooting into the hands of consumers. From there Kevin moves into his review of the BlackBerry Bold 9790 (yes, he's been using it for a week already) and then the crew talks BlackBerry Holiday Gift Guide picks for 2011 along with some other bits of news. It's a fun show, so grab an egg nog, preferably a spiked one, sit back, relax and enjoy the show!

The blog post title says it all on this one folks. Tomorrow at 11am EST we'll be firing things up for another CrackBerry podcast. You'll be able to watch it live here on the blogs, but if you can't make it, we'll bring you the video replay soon after.
We'll be kicking things off with the topic of DingleBerry and rooting the PlayBook. We showed you the video evidence of root access being gained on the PlayBook, and joining us tomorrow will be Chris Wade, who is one of the three individuals working on the DingleBerry tool that, when released, promises to give PlayBook owners a lot more control over their BlackBerry tablets.
PlayBook root access is obviously a hot topic for Research In Motion, which is a company that touts security as one of its fundamentals. Though as Chris told the Globe and Mail, "This is the Mack truck of exploits, it's a huge hole in the PlayBook - it's one that RIM should have known about and should have fixed and it's sort of a joke that RIM ... somehow managed to get certification from the government." RIM has already responded with a statement on this one, so it's going to be interesting to see how things pan out. One thing is for sure... you won't want to miss this podcast!
Kevin, Phil, Derek, Dan, and Rene discuss the future of phone fashion, how to pick a tablet for the holidays, and what happens when all phones are smart. Plus, our holiday gift guide! This is Mobile Nations!
