Motorola S10-HD

As an audiophile I take my search for Bluetooth headsets seriously. I spend hours nitpicking accessories to find one with everything I'm looking for especially when they're not wired headsets. They have to give the perfect balance of bass and treble (without the use of an equalizer) and be snug yet not too tight that I feel like my skull is in a vice. Now I've owned the Motorola S9-HD Bluetooth stereo headphones so I thought I'd pick up the newest model, the Motorola S10-HD, and take them for a spin.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again. I hate wires. They're cumbersome, always getting tangled in things, and half of the time you grab the wrong wire anyway. I love the freedom of movement afforded by Bluetooth headsets, the ease of paring the headsets, and the myriad voice responses built right in. Audio instructions, automatic pairing mode and a thankfully abset "Enter Code 0000" made for a surprisingly pleasant experience, pairing the devices with my BlackBerry.

In the past, I've written about Stereo Bluetooth Headphones; today, I'm taking a look at two Bluetooth headsets: the Motorola Oasis and the BlueAnt Q2. Both impressed me with their signal range, call quality and comfort. In the end, there could be only one winner.

BlackBerry Bluetooth headphone showdown

[ youtube video link for mobile viewing ]

Let's say you're in the market for Bluetooth stereo headphones. Good choice. You'll be releasing yourself from the tyranny of wires and ending the saga of headphones yanked from ears and BlackBerrys yanked from desks. But gaining the freedom to walk about and audio controls as close as your right ear comes at a price. Bluetooth headphones aren't cheap, and any savvy consumer will consider a whole host of questions before pulling the trigger. How well do they sound? Are they comfortable? Am I buying the right one? That's where this article comes in.

In this showdown, I put the BackBeat 903, MOTOROKR S305, the LG HBS-250, and the MOTOROKR S7-HD in a head to head to head to head (phone) competition. Product descriptions and statistics only tell part of the story. I wanted to know how well these devices performed in the real world, with an actual person using (and abusing) them. Which set of headphones sounded the best? Which were most comfortable? Best controls? Worst in show? All will be revealed...after the break.

BlackBerry Bluetooth Speakerphone Shootout

[ youtube video link for mobile viewing ]

Having a Bluetooth headset is becoming a necessity for some people as laws are being enforced all over North America against talking on cell phones without a handsfree device. However some people prefer not having something wrapped around their ear or a device they can utilize fully while on the road. There are cars that have the feature of having a Bluetooth system built in, but for those who are not fortunate to have one, there are Bluetooth Speakerphones. In this review, I will be putting the top three selling in the CrackBerry Store to the test to see which one is right for you. We'll be looking at the feature rich Blue Ant S4, the popular Blackberry VM 605 and the easy to use Mr. Handsfree Blue Vision II.

As someone who works in New York City, there are two things I've learned: (1) never publicly admit you're a Mets fan and (2) Manhattan is the noisiest city there is. Between the subways, buses, cars, taxis, and of course, the people, you need earplugs just to walk down the street. So imagine trying to have a phone conversation while walking anywhere in midtown. It's definitely not a pretty sight. At times I'm like the Verizon guy asking "Can you hear me now?" So what is a city girl to do? To solve that problem I'm going to put two headsets head to head in a battle to see which one can survive "the Manhattan Zone." I'm going to venture out to different parts of the city to see which one will come out on top and be declared the heavyweight champion. Who do you think will win? Click on the jump to find out.

Review: Jawbone ICON Bluetooth Headset

Jawbone ICON

Jawbone Bluetooth headsets have always been known for their NoiseAssassin feature and great device quality. But they now took it a step further. A few weeks ago they released an update for the Jawbone ICON gives it the ability to stream music and other audio files. It now has A2DP which lets users get any audio regardless of the type, such as from navigation apps or Internet radio stations thru the headset. Users can update the firmware from Aliph Jawbones Mytalk page for free. Jawbone users can also change the voice that conveys important info(Caller ID, battery life).

Will the journey never end? I’m consistently looking for a better audio device around every corner. Every time I see one, I have to try it out, regardless if I’m happy with whatever I am currently using. This goes for both hands free and stereo Bluetooth headsets. I’m surprised my wife hasn’t said “pick one already!!”

The reason is that it may be the audiophile in me. I want crisp, clear, full bodied sound when I listen. I also want to have a conversation, through a headset, without having to compensate for background noises. It’s one thing to have it through a wired headset; it’s another when you talk about stereo Bluetooth. Another factor to take into consideration is comfort. I want something that will stay in my ear without attempting to squeeze my brain out of my skull. As my quest continues, I find myself face to face with another contender – the Altec Lansing / Plantronics BackBeat 903 stereo Bluetooth headset. Possessing a lightweight and sporty design, as well as being equipped with both AudioIQ and OpenMic technologies; I’m hoping that the BackBeat lives up to its promise to be “the evolution of mobile music and calls”. Read on for more.

At first glance I wasn't sure I'd be a big fan of Motorola S7-HD headset, but after a few weeks of use I must say I'm impressed. Overall I have no major complaints on this one, aside from the slight "looseness" (for lack of a better work) of the headphone again the ear. They clip on well and hold tight around the ear, but the headpone sits a bit off the ear at times, yet they don't get annoying or hurt after a while like some other units. The sound is crisp and clear, although there are better sounding units out there, this one is a good pick if you're too hard on the sound of the tunes. If you're a runner or use the headset at the gym, I think you'll be very pleased. The ease of use and portability make this a great overall choice. Check out the video for a quick review, and head to ShopCrackBerry.com for more info.

Blueant Q1

While at CES, I had the opportunity to meet the great folks over at BlueAnt and have a chat with them about their Q1 headset. This sexy little piece of hardware had me smitten from the get-go, and I fell completely in love with it during the course of testing it out for this review. It seems like many people are tossing Bluetooth headsets to the curb lately, but the little guy is sure to stick by my side for a while. I haven't used a headset quite like the Q1 before, so lets get going and see how it holds up.

HS-500 v Jawbone Prime

Local laws changed? Time to buckle down and buy yourself a Bluetooth headset to avoid a silly traffic ticket for talking on your BlackBerry while driving your car? The hunt for a headset can be a difficult task since there are so many colors, styles, brands and price points that are currently available. Let's take some time to take a look at two great headsets that are highly rated.

A while back we reviewed the Jawbone Prime, and now we are going to take it and see how it holds up against the BlackBerry HS-500 headset. You could win a Plantronics Discovery 975 BT Headset. Details @ end of this post!

Discovery 975

More and more, we hear about talking on cellphones (and smartphones) while driving becoming a big no no. I have to say that I agree with that decision. I’ve had more than enough near misses that I would have liked to experience. Mostly because someone is on their phone, rather than having two hands on the wheel. There are obviously two decisions to consider; don’t use your cellphone/smartphone or use a headset. There are more Bluetooth headsets around than you can shake a smartphone at. Some look sleek and elegant, but have poor audio quality, while others look clunky, but sound great. A few lucky headsets benefit from the best of both worlds. I’ve had my fair share of Bluetooth headsets over the years. Perhaps I’m being picky, but a small part of me always wonders if there is a better sounding device out there. I want crisp clean sound! I want an ear drum delicacy! I want power and pizzazz without being pretentious!

Ingeniously Simple. That’s what Plantronics is calling their new Discovery 975 Bluetooth Headset. Within its elegantly minimal design, sound is mastered using Audio IQ and WindSmart Technologies. Like the sound of it so far?

Motorola S9HD

I have stated the following fact many, many times before; music is a huge part of my life. From singing along to Raffi when I was quite young, to playing in several high school bands as a loud and proud band geek, my love for music rivals my love for the BlackBerry smartphone. So rather than have these two loves fight for superiority, I made it my mission to have the two work together. BlackBerry? Check. Micro SD loaded with music? Check. The perfect way to listen to music on my BlackBerry? Pending. I've found my perfect wired headset to listen with, but wires aren't always a viable solution. On my desk, with my wireless keyboard and mouse, there's not a wire to be seen, and I would prefer to keep it that way.

If you dig through CrackBerry Bluetooth reviews, you'll find a review for the Motorola S9 from way back. They were beautifully designed and performed well. Improving upon near perfection, Motorola also offers amazing audio delight with their MotoRokr S9-HD (yes folks, high definition) Stereo Bluetooth headset. Now that the music is playing, and the creative juices are flowing, let's see what this headset can do.

Jawbone PRIME Bluetooth Headset

For years now I've been a big fan of the Aliph 'Jawbone' series Bluetooth headset. Not only for its stunning design, but for the quality product and sound clarity. Naturally, when Kevin asked me if I would like to do a review of the brand-new Jawbone PRIME, I was all over it like nobody's business. In my review I'll step you through the product and provide you with a few good pictures of the new device... and by the end you may even be convinced to pick one up (you won't regret it - this is my favorite headset to date).

Side note: I'm not going to bore you with all of the initial setup instructions, how to pair the device with your BlackBerry etc... Lets face it, we all know how to do that, and if you don't, I'm happy to report that both headsets here come with very clear instructions on how to do so. Let's get down to it!
