Ever since I moved to the Torch I've had a heck of a time getting my Copy2Contact registered.  For some reason the program was just not cooperating for me and once the trial expired the program has been dead in the water.  I've been in contact with their tech support several times with no good results.  This morning I received an email from their support with good news.

You're receiving this message because you recently wrote us about problems unlocking Copy2Contact on your BlackBerry device. We've traced the issue to a bug in OS 6 and have confirmed a solution to the problem. It was frustrating but we're relieved to finally know what's going on! You can read about it on our blog post. Please let us know if you have any questions.

I followed the steps in the blog post and once again my Copy2Contact is now working. What is Copy2Contact you may ask?

Simply, it allows you to take any contact related information from say an email, copy it to the clipboard and create an address book entry immediately.  Unlike Xobni which continuously updates the Xobni address book with data captured from incoming and outgoing emails; Copy2Contact allows you to create a new contact in the native BlackBerry address book which you may have synchronizing with Outlook or Gmail.

Last week we reported that details of SP2 for BlackBerry Enterprise Server 5.0 leaked out. Well now we've found a RIM document with the full release notes on the upcoming BES Service Pack. What's interesting is the new IT policy rules in the release. Specifically at the number of policies that require a handheld to have OS 6 in order to enforce. Here's the quick list of policies that must have handheld OS 6:

• Disable Feeds application 
• Prevent BlackBerry Podcasts 
• Prevent RSS Feeds 
• Prevent uploading of videos to YouTube 
• Content Protection Usage 
• Disable Browsing of Remote Shared Folders 
• Force IT Policy View Icon on Homescreen 

Many of these, for example "Prevent BlackBerry Podcasts", are to preserve wireless data usage which companies pay for and are concerned about. However this policy will only apply to the BlackBerry Podcast app which is currently in Beta. Apps such as PodTrapper will not be affected by this policy.

I'm intrigued by IT policies, they are a great look into the near future.  Whenever a new service pack for the BES rolls out a quick tour through IT Policies seem to be a crystal ball into the future of official BlackBerry apps. Back in the 4.0 days we saw ICQ, MSN & Yahoo! messenger IT controls show up long before RIM announced partnerships with these platforms. Currently there is no official RIM RSS program or YouTube app so it stands to reason that if there are new IT controls for these yet to exist products they are on the horizon.

The name is fitting for this new theme. It's what most BlackBerry users out there are thinking. Now, while we are still waiting for OS 6.0 to be rolled out there is no reason we can't have the look of it while we wait. Ryan Hamrick has been hard at work ever since the screenshots of OS 6.0 dropped. And now, the results of that work are now available for everyone to enjoy. Available for Storm, Bold 9700, Tour and finally 8900 series devices. I dream of 6 is available for only $4.99 and looks pretty solid on any device.

When early pre-production units of the BlackBerry "essex" aka "Tour2" started floating around and making appearances on the interwebs, they were still showing the same 256MB of device memory that other current-generation BlackBerry device models like the Tour 9630, Storm2, Bold 9700, Curve 85xx, etc. possess. In those early days of 9650 sightings, it was also thought the device would launch in early-ish 2010. From there, things presumably got delayed a bit for a couple of reasons, one being the brand switch from Tour to Bold and the other reason being a welcomed bump up in device memory from the standard 256MB to 512MB (photo above).

Though the BlackBerry Bold 9650 has yet to be officially announced or released, we've already seen many OS leaks pop up for the device, all of which have been 5.0 builds, clearly indicating the device will initially hit the market with OS 5.0. But with OS 6.0 just around the corner, RIM needed to make sure the BlackBerry Bold 9650 is 6.0 compatible and ready to rock the new WebKit browser in full force when released, so they upped the memory to 512MB which is likely to be the new minimum standard for device memory on new models moving ahead.

WooHOO!! A first REAL look at BlackBerry OS 6.0. The Boy Genius got some screen captures and a tour of the updated and evolving OS 6.0 from an AT&T connect and has reported back with lots of details. Well, this is rather interesting to see. The above shots were recently posted over at BBLeaks. Now, while the pics are mentioned to be of OS 6.0 they are clearly just images of what might be. Nothing appears to be running on a device here. Oddly enough, they look all too familiar to the concierge app that was shown off at DevCon and again in a recent RIM held webinar. So, while we can't say for certain this is what it's going to look like or definitively confirm the accuracy (nor does BBLeaks), what do you think if this was indeed the case? Looks entirely too crowded for my liking, if they are indeed the real deal. Share your thoughts.

A lot of talk has been generating from the BlackBerry Super Apps webinar that was held yesterday. The above pic is from one of the slides shown during the webinar showing off how UI layouts are meant to be. Nicely integrated, visually appealing and user aware and what is possible in the contextual BlackBerry OS. For example, applications that remember your position upon open and closing and data flow of information at a glance.

Since the example given is nothing like what the current BlackBerry OS looks like, BerryScoop wanted to speculate a little bit to ask what if this was actually what OS 6.0 was to look like? In no way claiming it will but just as a general question. Would it appeal to the masses? Is it enough or would users be expecting more? All valid questions as I see it for as ideas for the next OS.

As much as we all like to speculate and enjoy the thought of what the next BlackBerry OS should and will look like, the official word on this is that it is in no way a reflection of any ongoing development work. For folks who like finer details look at the date and location on the device. November 8th, San Francisco. This app, called Concierge was shown off at the recent BlackBerry developer conference by Curtis Susaski to ring in the arrival of the BlackBerry widgets SDK just as an example of what is possible in the way of contextual additions to the BlackBerry OS.
