BlackBerry Bold 9790

The BlackBerry Bold 9790 has been available on most Canadian carriers for quite some time now but WIND Mobile is gearing up to be next on that list. Previously, an OS for the device showed up on their software download page triggering the thoughts they would soon be making the device available through their retail channels.

As it turns out, those thoughts were indeed accurate as new information shows WIND Mobile as launching the device come February 3rd. With WIND Mobile you'll be looking at a $49 price point should you pick one up on a WINDtab+ or $400 an an ouright purchase cost. Need to know more about the BlackBerry Bold 9790? You'll have to choose one of the basic plans and matching BlackBerry plan, but it's a good bet if you don't like being tied down to a contract. BlackBerry Curve 3G

The other day we made mention of the fact the BlackBerry Curve 3G OS had shown up on the WIND Mobile site, despite the fact the carrier having never released the device. That of course, led us to think the BlackBerry Curve 3G would be arriving at some point on the Canadian carrier. Now, even more proof has shown up in the form of a inventory shot from the WIND Mobile internal systems. The BlackBerry Curve 3G has two slots in the inventory. Presumably, for different colored devices upon release. Still no date or pricing yet but it's another BlackBerry device added to the WIND Mobile lineup for users to choose from.

BlackBerry Curve 3G coming to WIND Mobile?!

WIND Mobile

I always find it funny when carriers out their upcoming devices via their own websites. This time, it looks as though WIND Mobile customers will have the BlackBerry Curve 3G coming their way if the information on the WIND Mobile BlackBerry download page is correct. WIND has posted OS 5.0.0.977 for the BlackBerry Curve 3G which, isn't even in their current line up of devices. We've heard rumors of it before so it's not exactly a surprise but, still rather funny to see the OS before the device. Hopefully it'll show up at some point but as of now, nothing to report on other than the OS being found there. Thanks Vlad!

Wind Mobile Pearl 3G

The BlackBerry Pearl 3G (9100) is now officially available from Wind Mobile. The contract-free device is priced at $300 and if you pick one up now you can save 50% off on an accompanying data plan. Monthly plan prices vary depending on your use, but it's overall a good buy and worth being free from a lengthy contract. The Pearl 3G sports Wifi 802.11 wireless n, GPS, Bluetooth, 3G (duh) and SureType keyboard. Head over to the link below for more.

WIND Mobile Launch

[ Forums member AngryChineseDriver gave us a good look at the official launch of WIND Mobile's official launch event this week. He provided a good summary of features, as well as what to expect from the carrier. You can jump into the forums for more discussion, or check out his full article with images from the event. ]

I woke up at 5:45a.m. yesterday, December 16, to catch the official launch of Canada's newest national carrier, WINDmobile, at the Queen's Quay Headquarters location in Toronto, ON; all I can say is that it was absolutely worth it.

Earning the spot of WIND's second customer ever in its young history, I was able to live-tweet (with frozen fingers at one point while standing outside in the beautiful yet Winnipeg-like winter weather) all developments. However, it was all worth it as I got a personal shout-out from the WINDmobile CEO, Ken Campbell.

WIND Mobile Launches, Changing The Canadian Wireless Market

Just the other day we covered WIND Mobile and gave the run down of their services. Today, launch day for WIND Mobile, we have learned even more about how they plan on operating and the changes they are gonna bring to the Canadian wireless market. Rate plans are now available for all to see and well, they are quite impressive when placed alongside those of the big 3 in Canada.

Starting at $15 and going up to $45 for Unlimited Nationwide calling WIND seems poised nicely to make their mark against others. Of course, we cannot forget data plans either considering WIND has launched with the BlackBerry Bold 9700 ($450 vs Rogers $599 no contract price), Data Cards and Windows Mobile devices. Data plans start at $15 and go all the way up to $55 for Unlimted Data card usage (BlackBerry Plans stop at $35 for Unlimited) WIND does have a fair usage statement as well, they have a 5GB cap but will NOT cut you off or charge you more for exceeding that 5GB they just claim they will throttle your speeds so as to not interfere with their quality of service for others. Not bad, glad to see they were upfront about it.

All in all, things are already looking great for WIND. Take under consideration the fact the influx of traffic after launch to their site took some parts offline. I think it's safe to say there is a great interest in WIND Mobile. No contracts, First month of service free, Nationwide calling and cheaper non contracted devices then other carriers. Yes, we think WIND Mobile will be just fine. Congrats go out to them on their launch.

WIND Mobile Launches As Consumers Look To Move Away From The Big Three

WIND Mobile has been stirring up quite a fuss in the wireless market for Canada as of late. From their initial announcement of spending $442 Million in the wireless spectrum (1700mHz) auction to the most recent troubles they have had with the Canadian Radio Television and Telecommunications Commission WIND Mobile and their parent company Globalive Wireless Management Corp. has customers excited.

After having the federal government overrule the CRTC, WIND Mobile is getting the last little bits in place for their launch, which is rumored to be today (we'll see if that pans out). Store locations have been set up and they have a recently announced deal with BlockBuster to sell service through in-store kiosks. Rate plans are still not fully available (although, previously leaked) but devices are ready to roll out, including what we all care about... BlackBerry smartphones. Heading up the pack in that area will be the BlackBerry Bold 9700. When it comes to device pricing, we already know WIND will be offering no contracts but that comes at the cost of higher then what were are used to paying for equipment. Sure, they will be discounted a little but it'll be similar to buying a device off contract from any of the big three carriers.

WIND Mobile will be available in Calgary and Toronto first going off and has their own 3G network but makes use of Rogers EDGE services for a "fallback" option. Something Bell and TELUS cannot do which does give WIND a slight advantage when it launches, which is rumored to be tomorrow. WIND of course will be expanding to other areas but one sour point at this time is Quebec. Currently, no service is being offered in Quebec due to fact WIND was beat out on spectrum pricing there. A partner would be needed to reach that area, which will at some point hopefully change. Exciting times for the Canadian wireless market as we welcome a new carrier and hopefully some great changes ahead for consumers.
