My Vodafone App

When you're not on an unlimited data or calling plan and you like to keep an eye on your usage to make sure you don't go over your allowance, there isn't always a simple way to do. Not with some UK networks anyway. I don't really want to have to call a number to check my balance or data allowance or have to login on the website from my phone. I would prefer be able to check it from my BlackBerry via an app. Today Vodafone released their My Vodafone app which is available for UK customers. The app allows you to:

  • See how much inclusive allowance you've used if you're a pay monthly customer
  • See how much credit you have remaining if you're a pay as you go customer
  • See your price plan information
  • Get answers to the most frequently asked questions
  • Locate BT Openzone Wi-Fi hotspots
  • See how many megabytes or messages you've used in the current period

A few things to note though. It is not available to business customers as of yet and new customers will need to wait until after their first bill to see account information. Also, the allowance shown is not given in real time. As with most networks it is normally the allowance from the last 48 hours -- make sure you keep this in mind.

The My Vodafone app is available for BlackBerry devices with OS 4.0 and above.

Vodafone UK releases BlackBerry Bold 9790

BlackBerry Bold 9790 on Vodafone

Vodafone UK customers ... the wait is over! The BlackBerry Bold 9790 is now available on the network. The smaller of the Bold devices, dubbed as the little brother/sister to the BlackBerry Bold 9900, sports a 1GHz processor and a 2.45 in touchscreen display. It is available for free from £30 a month on 24-month contract, this gives you 600 mins, unlimited texts and 500MB of data. It is available on lower tariffs for a one-off payment.

In releasing the BlackBerry Bold 9790, Vodafone becomes the second UK network to do so (with O2 UK being the first). That just leaves three more networks to release it, as well as our favourite mobile phone stores Carphone Warehouse and Phones 4 U. Hopefully it won't be too long now until other networks have this awesome device available.

If you're looking to see what other BlackBerry are available from UK networks check out the UK BlackBerry Buyer's Guide using the links below. These are constantly being updated so it may be worthwhile bookmarking them.

Everyone loves white devices, perhaps no one more than Kevin. While we've all been super happy with our BlackBerry Bold 9900 and 9930's in black, there is just something about the white version that makes it look oh so awesome. We've seen a few images of the device here and there, but until now no solid info was known as to where or when the device would actually surface. Vodafone has helped us out in posting a sneak peek video of the BlackBerry Bold 9900 in white. The device in the video is still unbranded, but it's a great sign to see that it will indeed be hitting carriers at some point. Check out the video above for more and be ready to get your white on.

BlackBerry Torch 9810

Another BlackBerry 7 has been made available by three UK networks. This time it is the BlackBerry Torch 9810. If you're waiting to get your mitts on this BlackBerry smartphone then Vodafone, O2 and Three all have it available on contract.

On Vodafone, you can get the Torch 9810 for free from £31 a month, O2 offers it free from £37 per month and Three only offers one price plan for £37 a month. O2 and Three also offer the Torch 9810 on pay as you go for £429.99 and £449.99 respectively. The BlackBerry Buyer's Guide UK Edition has been updated to reflect these updates.

So far we've only been seeing three UK networks releasing BlackBerry 7 devices. We've yet to see T-Mobile and Orange release any. Let's hope they do soon for the sake of our CrackBerry readers on those networks.

Vodafone UK students offer

With university freshers week starting across the UK, so will the flutter of students discounts and offers from various companies. One of which is Vodafone UK. They are offering students 10 percent off line rental and on top of that you also get 30 free music tracks to download.

The offer is available to students to upgrade or take out a new contract. However, if you have taken out a contract within the last 60 days then you can also apply for the discount offer via the Vodafone website. Vodafone Bold 9900

We knew the BlackBerry Bold 9900 would be a hit and it looks like that's definitely the case for Vodafone UK customers. The Bold 9900 has been available for a little more than a month on the UK carrier, but already the device is listed as sold out on their website. According to the site the device won't be available again for another 3-4 weeks, so if you were looking to pick up one on Vodafone you'll unfortunately have to hang tight for quite a while. There have been some rumors in the forums that Rogers is sold out as well, but we haven't been able to confirm anything just yet.

BlackBerry Buyer Guide UK networks

Here in the UK we have the top 5 networks for buying your mobile phone on - O2 UK, Vodafone UK, T-Mobile UK, Orange and Three. Although T-Mobile and Orange trade under an individual name they merged back in July 2010, so a lot of their tariffs end up being very similar if not the same. With a handful of networks it is sometimes hard to know what networks sells which BlackBerry and where the best deal lies. Of course you have Phones 4 U and Carphone Warehouse that deal with all the networks but first off we shall look at BlackBerry devices and tariffs available directly from the networks. The costs shown are for a 24-month contract. For an 18-month contract add £5 to the monthly cost, unless otherwise stated.

The above video gives a pretty cool, albeit basic walkthrough of the device and shows off some of the features of course. Any Curve fans going to be keeping tradition and picking one fo these up?
