BlackBerry 7.1

If you have a BlackBerry Curve 9360 Virgin Mobile Canada, you'll want to keep an eye out for system updates come Feb. 23rd. According to the documentation above, Virgin Mobile Canada will be rolling out BlackBerry 7.1 to its customer base. No mention of what version it will be upon release but OS 7.1.0.258 has leaked already so if you're impatient, you can go ahead and load that up or you can just hit that software update button tomorrow.

Note: Bell, who owns Virgin Mobile Canada has already released v7.1.0.219 for the 9360 so Virgin will likely release the same.

I think most of us have our list of favorite holiday movies we like to watch each year - Elf, Love Actually, Christmas Vacation, A Christmas Story, etc. And call me a cell phone junky, but I also have my list of favorite holiday commercials/videos from mobile companies I find myself watching each year as Christmas approaches. The year after year winner on this one has historically been Virgin Mobile, though I haven't come across a new one by them for 2011. Not a big deal though, as the Seasons Greetings from Mrs. Claus skit they did up a few years ago is hard to beat (watch it above - language warning).

T-Mobile did step it up this year with their Home for the Holidays skit, which you can watch below along with a few other mobile holiday gems. If you come across any other new ones this year, be sure to toss the link in the comments. Enjoy the show!

Telus BlackBerry Bold 9790

While Rogers beat everyone to the punch, today Telus, Bell and Virgin Mobile have all made the BlackBerry Bold 9790 available for purchase. If you're in Canada and looking to pick up the Bold 9790, you now have plenty of choices. Prices vary a bit on each carrier, but it looks like Bell and Virgin are the best at $99.99 for a 3-year term. The Bold 9790 is carrying a 1GHz processor, 5MP camera, touchscreen and QWERTY keyboard and is a great alternative for those not wanting the larger Bold 9900.

Virgin Mobile Bold 9790

It looks like the BlackBerry Bold 9790 may be heading to Virgin Mobile Canada sometime in the very near future. We already know that the device will be hitting Telus soon (and most likely Rogers and Bell as well) so add this one to the list. No official word on pricing or a release date just yet, but we can expect it to be in line with the early December arrivals of other carriers. The Bold 9790 is sporting a full QWERTY keyboard, touchscreen display, 5MP camera and 1GHz processor.

BlackBerry OS7

Well, it seems that .291 fever has stuck again! This time, with not one, but three carriers around the world officially releasing OS 7.0.0.261 for the BlackBerry Torch 9810. In India, Redington has released the Asian languages version of the OS; and Canadian providers Sasktel and Virgin Mobile Canada both pushing the All Languages version to Official status.

If you like the latest and greatest in BlackBerry OS' but hate the hit-or-miss difficulties involved with the leaked versions, you might want to give this one a look. Unless one of these companies is your wireless provider, you'll need to delete the vendor.xml file before installing to your phone. As always, if you need more help, we've got it for you. Thanks rroyy!

Virgin mobile

Looking to score a better deal on the BlackBerry Bold 9900 or BlackBerry Torch 9810 by opting to buy one from Virgin Mobile? You may be in luck when it comes to the pricing over, that is -- when compared to Rogers. The verdict is still out on Virgins parent company, Bell. Here is what you'll be looking at if you opt to purchase from Virgin Mobile:

BlackBerry Bold 9900:

  • No-contract price: $599.99
  • 3-year contract/SuperTab: $169.99

BlackBerry Torch 9810:

  • No-contract price: $599.99
  • 3-year contract/SuperTab: $149.99

More expensive for the no-contract terms but if you're going to be rolling a new 3-year contract, you'll get off $50 cheaper when grabbing the Torch 9810 and $70 cheaper if the Bold 9900 is more your bag. Oh right, Virgin Mobile also has their dummy units ready as well.

BlackBerry Pearl 9100 3G

Virgin Mobile Canada is offering up a smokin' deal on the BlackBerry Pearl 3G 9100 right now. You can pick one up for just $99 off contract, which is awesome if you're in need of a new device, or maybe looking for an inexpensive yet feature packed back-to-school present. And since Virgin Mobile offers some great pre-paid options that include BlackBerry data, you don't have to worry about expensive data overages -- or jut unlock it and use it on any other GSM compatible carrier. You can check out the full details on the Virgin Mobile website.

Virgin Mobile Pricing Plans

Virgin Mobile has confirmed their new pricing plans (which are still some of the cheapest among BlackBerry plans) and will be dropping the monthly fee for BlackBerry users. The new plans change things up a bit, but those who use the carrier's BlackBerry service will be happy to know the $10 monthly fee will be no more. The new plans feature a 300 minute plan for $35, 1200 minute plan for $45 and unlimited plan for $55. As before, all plans still include unlimited data, text and web. So if you are a Virgin Mobile customer - what say you about the new plans? Drop a comment and let us know!

Virgin Mobile Canada BlackBerry Bold 9900

It looks like the BlackBerry Bold 9900 can add one more carrier to the "coming soon" list. Confirmed in Tweet form yesterday, Virgin Mobile Canada said the device will be coming "super soon". Their soon and our soon are most likely two different things, but still a good sign that the device may be nearing an official release date. We first saw the Bold 9900 announced at BlackBerry World back in May but have yet to lock down a release just yet. We know it will be hitting Vodafone as well as plenty of other carriers, so for now we just need to wait (somewhat) patiently. Thanks Kevin!

BlackBerry 6

Not to be left out of the mix, since Bell owns Virgin Mobile in Canada -- the BlackBerry Curve 3G 9300 has also received the same OS update as the bold 9700 and the BlackBerry Torch. OS 6.0.0.534 can now be download from the Virgin Mobile BlackBerry downloads page linked below. Thanks, rroyy!

You gotta love Virgin Mobile Canada/Virgin Mobile. Every year they give us a new holiday greeting. Of course, none have been as hawt or as funny as the Nicole Arbour one we posted back in 2008 - I keep waiting for a follow-up greeting from Mrs. Claus but it hasn't happened yet - so be sure to check it out (again) above to get into the festive spirit!  ** Note: Language warning. Don't watch if you get offended easily. **

And if you want to see this year's official greeting from Virgin Mobile as well as a couple other gems from years gone by, you can watch them below. Thanks for the chuckle Virgin Mobile, and happy holidays!!

Virgin Mobile launching the BlackBerry Bold 9780 in white

We've known for quite some time now that Virgin Mobile was all geared up to release the BlackBerry Bold 9780 at some point. While the exact date still evades us, Best Buy has once again posted up devices even before the carriers and this time they've also outted something that was rumored but never really confirmed. As you can tell from the above pic, Virgin Mobile will be releasing the BlackBerry Bold 9780 in white whenever they decide to actually make it available and looks like it will be unbranded as well just like the Bell version (no carrier logo). Pricing falls in line with the rest of the carriers when it comes to no contract pricing ($499.99) but using their SuperTab option you can get the BlackBerry Bold 9780 for $129.99. Thanks Borna!
