BBSAK

The ever so helpful BlackBerry utility BBSAK has received an update today which bumped it up to v1.9.2. While you may think the bump from v1.9.1 to 1.9.2 would be a minor one, it was actually a rather large update.  The first major feature addition was BlackBerry 7 support, so now you can utilize all the great BBSAK features on your new devices as well. Beyond adding BlackBerry 7 support they have rewritten the application to enhance speed and performance. The rewrite allowed them to remove sluggish code and replace it with more efficient and quicker ways to get things done. BBSAK is now available as a free download and, if you wish to support the developer and their cause, you can do so by donating to them on their site.

Leave It On by ShaoSoft

Leave It On is one of my favorite BlackBerry apps. Designed by ShaoSoft, Leave It On is actually two apps in one and it has just been updated to v4, making it even better. If you're not familiar with Leave It On, you can set it to automatically keep your BlackBerry backlight on in up to 8 applications. This is particularly handy when using Google Maps, the media player, and so on. Leave It On also brings fully interactive pop-ups for tons of apps, so you can know at a glance who that email is from and more! The pop-ups are fully customizable, including text color, duration to stay on screen, custom animations and more!

Major changes since v3:

  • Pop-ups can now be set to 3 mode: Interactive, Non-interactive, Interactive on Home Screen.
    • Interactive mode means when a pop-up is displayed the pop-up takes over the input so you can click (or scroll in the case of email and sms previews), clicking it launches the app the pop-up is for.
    • Non-interactive mode the pop-ups will no disrupt anything you are doing, but you cannot click or scroll the pop-up.
    • Interactive on Home Screen, is what it implies, the pop-ups will be interactive on the home screen only and non-interactive in all other apps
  • Complete re-write of core code. Translates to better performance.
  • Improved scrolling of preview messages (emails & sms)
  • Updated UI
  • Many many tweaks/fixed/improvements

Leave It On is on sale now for $3.99 (reg. $5.99) and does have a free trial available, and recently a free lite version was added.

App Stalker

App stalker is an interesting application, just released by S4BB Limited. The app actively scans BlackBerry App World and will list any applications that have moved from the paid section to free, or any that have dramatically dropped in price. It will sort these applications accordingly and you can quickly switch between "Free Now" and "Price Drop" via the tabs at the bottom of the app screen.

Prices for apps drop all the time, and App Stalker is a very easy way to be notified of these special deals. No longer will you need to keep checking on that app you want that you just can't justify buying. Now you can sit back and let App Stalker tell you when it is the right time to go get it. It is compatible with most BlackBerry devices and free to download from the link below.

CardStar Contest

A while back we ran a post about the application called CardStar. It takes your membership/rewards cards out of your wallet and onto your device. You simply enter your barcode numbers into the app, and it instantly transforms them into portable cards. Open the app, select your card and scan away (make sure to have the cashier use a hand held scanner). CardStar is great for membership cards, rewards & loyalty cards, gym memberships and more. The huge database includes a lot of well known cards and more are added every day. One of the biggest complaints was the size of the app (3.6 MB), and I’m very pleased to announce that it has been downsized to 1.2 MB. They’ve also updated with any deals running for each store.

CardStar is available as a free download and during the holiday season they are running a 12 Days of Christmas contest. Every day you can click the in-app link and enter for your chance to win a new prize. The contest is already moving along so download the app and enter today!
