UberSocial for BlackBerry v1.3 now available

If you use Twitter on your BlackBerry, chances are you have heard of, tried, or currently use UberSocial. This popular app has just been updated to v1.304, fixing a bug in the character count on the compose screen while also giving this screen a simpler, roomier look. They have also completely re-written the Facebook OAuth logic, resolving the issue with the Facebook web page not rendering correctly on the built-in browser widget and the in-ability to login if you setup your Facebook security to require the naming of a new device login.

All in all it sounds like a worthwhile update so you'll want to make sure you get it when you have a chance. You can grab the update, or if you're not a current UberSocial user you can become one, at the link below.

UberSocial Theme

We have previously seen various themes become available for UberSocial for BlackBerry but downloading them required you to go to the UberSocial site instead of just being able to grab it right through AppWorld. That seems to have changed, and now all the themes are listed in AppWorld for your easy downloading pleasure. I'm not sure if these get updated periodically, I would assume they will be updated when the app is updated, so it will be much easier to get notified of these updates having installed it through AppWorld. If you are an UberSocial for BlackBerry user be sure to hit the link below and check the themes out!

  • Reworked the login mechanism with Twitter to avoid some issues.
  • Added the ability to turn off the global ‘Uber Tweet’ menu item
  • Fixed bug in mypict.me upload which could cause the app to lock up.

Virtual Contact for Twitter

Still looking for a Twitter application on your BlackBerry PlayBook? Need to manage multiple Twitter accounts? Then Virtual Contact for Twitter may be the answer for you! Created by Babin Moisan Solutions Inc., Virtual Contact for Twitter is a FREE Twitter client available only for the BlackBerry PlayBook. I didn't realize how feature packed this app really was until I checked out the creator's videos on his YouTube channel. He takes you step by step through all of the features listed below.

  • Managing Multiple Twitter Accounts
  • Auto Messages
  • URL Shortener
  • Search feature
  • Image & Video publishing
  • Shows DMs (Direct Messages) I had issues with this feature with one account but I believe that's because I have protected tweets...
  • When viewing tweets with URL links, you can actually view the images or web pages without leaving the Twitter client app

There are very few Twitter applications available for the BlackBerry PlayBook and even fewer ones that I actually like. Virtual Contact is easy to use & has the features most of us desire. The fact that it's a FREE Twitter client makes it so much more appealing to some. One of the things I would change is the dark color scheme. Maybe in future builds they may utilize the vibrant red & yellow colors of the logo to brighten up the UI a bit.

Blaq for PlayBook

When the review for the BlackBird Twitter app for the BlackBerry PlayBook went up, someone made a comment that they wanted to see a Blaq review. Up until that point, I had only seen Blaq on BlackBerry smartphones, and thought it was a decent Twitter application. To be honest, I was already bouncing back and forth between Twitter for BlackBerry and another Twitter client and didn’t feel the need to pick up a third. Had I actually done so, I think that Blaq would have been installed on my BlackBerry PlayBook the moment the app was made available. As I had mentioned in the BlackBird review, accessing Twitter from the PlayBook was (at the time) limited to a basic mobile view – making it painful to use. Even with a new beefed up mobile site, I’ve quickly taken to Blaq to help me keep connected to Twitter. Kisai labs has recently updated Blaq with a slew of new features and fixes, making in (in my opinion) the most functional (and sexy) PlayBook Twitter client yet.

With Notifications, paused timelines and multiple account access, Blaq may have you saying “Holy Tweet!” As lame as that just sounded, let’s hope you keep reading.

UberSocial for BlackBerry

The popular Twitter app UberSocial for BlackBerry has gotten a big update today! Version 1.20 has quite a few bug fixes as to be expected, but they have also added in some neat features. The first of those is called The Inner Circle, which allows you to add people to an exclusive timeline. You can set separate notifications for this timeline too, so you'll never miss out on the tweets you want to see. The Uber team has also added DealBox, which is a new feature that shows you customized deals near you. When new deals are available, a notification will appear on the icon in your Uber Bar. They have also added in support for Twitter's new photo service, authentication requirements, and enhanced image viewing and handling.

All-in-all it looks like a worthwhile update. Head on over to the link below for the full change-log and to download UberSocial!

Seesmic Rolls Out Version 1.3 Of Their Twitter Client For BlackBerry

Seesmic has rolled out the latest version of their Twitter client for BlackBerry. Version 1.3 is now available for download via the Seesmic website. While it's not much of a version jump it does certainly address some of the bugs from previous versions. As listed on the Seesmic blog:

  • Permissions Loop
  • Fixes for Notifications for Replies and DMs
  • Ensure Search Timelines are updating with Geolocation tweets
  • Ensure Updates are shown in your Profile Information.
  • Adding Twitter account with e-mail address
  • Allowing Location Data to be set to allow or deny in Settings
  • Allowing foreign charecters to be shown in Ping.fm account

If you're a fan of using Seesmic for your twitter account be sure to check it out. They also adjusted some of the Ping.fm integration as well, so I'm sure that could be helpful if you use that service.

First Photo Of The Official Twitter For BlackBerry Client? Launch Getting Closer?

Could this quite possibly be the "Twitter For BlackBerry" client we all have been waiting for? Sure seems that way. While we won't go out and say yes, this is pretty much surely it. It does appear to have all the markings of what we have come to know as Twitter For BlackBerry. The above picture was posted up on Tweetphoto and then to Twitter via @jmatuk. Rumors are again getting out there of a February release for what was once known as project banshee. We heard months ago that it was supposed to launch back at the end of 2009 but was delayed due to it not being ready for primetime and RIM has pushed out many revisions in that time. It seems now that the feature set for the initial release has now been locked down and all that's left is more bug testing and to push it out the door.

The BlackBerry Bold 9700 was launched recently in Mexico on Telcel and @jmatuk states this is where the information is coming from as Twitter for BlackBerry was discussed at the launch event. Take it all as rumor at this point folks but lets hope it's rumor turned fact, come February. I've heard good and bad things about the client. But, until we get to see it and try it on our own we'll not know for sure how it turned out. Some may love it, some may not, just like the many other twitter clients out there.

Seesmic For BlackBerry Updated To Version 1.2.1.9 Now Includes BIS-B Support, Image Preview & More

Seesmic for BlackBerry was updated last night. Getting a version bump up to 1.2.1.9 and including a whole host of changes that people have been asking for. Most importantly, BIS-B support which will allow for a lot more users to connect to Twitter through the application. In addition to BIS-B support, picture preview, deletion and RT of tweets was also added and finally, Google maps integration to make better use of the Twitter Geo location services.

Seesmic is looking like a more complete choice with each and every update. So I guess the question is, anyone using Seesmic over say UberTwitter or SocialScope already? Or do you feel it's not quite there enough yet to make Seesmic your main Twitter app? What do you still want to see in Seesmic to make it your go to twitter client?
