Twitter for BlackBerry

A new version of Twitter for BlackBerry is now available for Beta Zone members. The latest sits at version 3.1.0.8 and brings a few new updates and fixes. Things are moving along pretty quick on these betas, so there's a good chance this will hit BlackBerry App World shortly.

Updates include:

  • Updated Tweet Details Screen - Clicking a Tweet now brings you to a content-rich Tweet details screen, designed to give you more information around the Tweet. Geotagged Tweets will show mini maps, Tweeted photos will appear larger, and Twitter conversations will be easier to follow. In addition, you will be able to see who's Retweeted a Tweet, and by whom it has been Retweeted. To see a person's profile screen, just click the profile picture again.
  • Undo Retweet - You can now undo a Retweet that you may have mistakenly Retweeted. You can undo a Retweet by using familiar actions used to delete a Tweet. In addition, the new Tweet details screen allows you to select the Retweet button to undo a Retweet.
  • Right to Left Language Support
  • Additional Languages - Finnish, Arabic & Hebrew

If you're a Beta Zone member you can login and download the new version from the link below. If you're not yet a member then get on it!

Twitter for BlackBerry ver 3.0.0.24

While an update to Twitter for BlackBerry isn’t the news we’re waiting for from BlackBerry World and BlackBerry Jam, it’s still a nice treat for Monday morning. RIM has pushed version 3.0.0.24 of their Twitter app out. The new version is mostly bug fixes but also they’ve reenabled a couple of features that were turned off in the latest build.

Updates in version 3.0.0.24

  • Fixed error preventing some users from launching app

  • Fixed a freezing issue that some users encountered when becoming BBM connected

  • Limited valid username characters when signing up for new Twitter account

  • Re-enabled Profile Location mapping for latitude/longitude coordinates

  • Fix continuous loading bug when encountering certain tweets

The update should be available to most users today, but if you are impatient and really looking to get in on the latest version of Twitter for BlackBerry, doing the alt+R,S,T trick within App World should refresh your applications and help you have the update faster.

Blaq

If you own a BlackBerry PlayBook and use Twitter on it, odds are that you have already heard of, if not already own Blaq. For those unfamiliar with Blaq it is a feature loaded, and beautifully designed Twitter application for the PlayBook that offers a great experience. While the application was built in only 30 days originally, a lot of time and effort has gone into it, and they are back again with another update, bumping it up to version 1.7.1. In this release they have:

  • Timeline position is held if new tweets are loaded while scrolled (instead of jumping to top)
  • Reduced application size
  • Reduced memory footprint
  • Big performance improvements
  • Improved scrolling
  • New splash screen
  • E-mail Tweet
  • Font appearance preview

In addition they have implimented a fix for the streaming issues Twitter caused on Monday, long URL's no longer flow into the tweet beneath them, and a few other fixes as well. If you haven't already done so be sure to hop into App World and update today, and if you have been waiting to purchase, there is no better time than now!

It's been a while since an official release, so if you haven't had a chance to grab any updates from the Beta Zone, you'll definitely want to give this one a go.  Twitter for BlackBerry

I'll admit it - I'm fairly addicted to social apps on my BlackBerry. I find myself constantly checking my Twitter feed, scoping out Facebook and catching updates from Google+. I'm still not sure just what the draw is, but I know that I go nuts when I check my social happenings. I know there are plenty of you that fall into the same trap as me -- always checking out the latest on various social networks -- while others can't be bothered (or don't have the time) for social foolishness. So what we want to know is just how many of you do use social networks and how many don't bother. Let us know in the poll above (pick the option that best fits you) then drop a comment below.

UberSocial BlackBerry

  • Initial integration of your facebook newsfeed, post, page, profile and picture viewing and more
  • Facebook Likes and Comments
  • New icons and refreshed colors and generally cleaned up the user interface
  • Reformatted trending topics for better readability
  • Fixed refreshes based on email notifications from Twitter
  • Added ‘bubble help' to the tweet composer
  • Fixed bug with background images with installable themes getting scrambled on newer devices

Twitter for BlackBerry

Twitter for BlackBerry got a pretty decent update just a few days ago in the BlackBerry Beta Zone, and now a new version is available with a slew of fixes. The latest version brings it to 3.0.0.16 and while it doesn't have any major enhancements, the bug fixes should keep it running strong. Fixes include:

  • Unable to open links from Social Feeds
  • Phantom DM notification
  • Prompted with "Uncaught exception: Application net_rim_bb_twitter (309) is not responding; process terminated" after app hang

  • BlackBerry Bridge "Open Link On PlayBook" does not work for Twitter (but does for all other BB apps)
  • Memory leak after changing options
  • Uncaught exception when opening the Messages
  • Need error message to indicate when an account is suspended
  • Unable to see top trending lists beyond the basic 'worldwide' list
  • The Favorite counter is not accurate after click follow and then unfollow many times quickly

Best Buy BlackBerry PlayBook

Best Buy Canada got a bit of a jump on things when they listed the PlayBook OS 2.0 software as "coming soon" in their recent ad, and now they may be getting a bit ahead of themselves once again. As listed on their PlayBook product page, Best Buy notes that PlayBook owners will be able to access both Twitter and Kindle apps.

Plug in to BlackBerry App World and read, write and game like never before. With thousands of apps for every use, you'll never run out of new and exciting options. Pick up Angry Birds or Cut the Rope, read the latest magazines, or connect online with Facebook and Twitter apps. With access to Kobo and Kindle, you can enjoy new late night reading without ever leaving your living room.

We still haven't heard any news regarding either of these apps, but they have topped the most-wanted list for PlayBook apps for quite a while. If you recall, Amazon had announced a Kindle app before the PlayBook ever saw the light of day yet we've heard nothing on it since. So this could be a big "oops" on Best Buy for dropping the ball, or just a crazy mix up that is getting us excited for no reason. In any case, we should find out very soon.

BBM Connected

We've known for quite some time now that Facebook and Twitter for BlackBerry have new versions that have been in testing, but for whatever reason, RIM has delayed their release more then once. The new versions for both, will have some UI changes for overall ease of use but more importantly they will also become BBM connected.

The BBM integration is something a lot of folks have been asking for and RIM is prepared to deliver that as shown above, only problem is we don't know when as of yet. But, if BBM Connected apps are you're thing then you can take solace in the fact you no longer have to ask RIM to integrate it as they're already working on it. Thanks, @omercancelikler!

UberSocial for BlackBerry v1.3 now available

If you use Twitter on your BlackBerry, chances are you have heard of, tried, or currently use UberSocial. This popular app has just been updated to v1.304, fixing a bug in the character count on the compose screen while also giving this screen a simpler, roomier look. They have also completely re-written the Facebook OAuth logic, resolving the issue with the Facebook web page not rendering correctly on the built-in browser widget and the in-ability to login if you setup your Facebook security to require the naming of a new device login.

All in all it sounds like a worthwhile update so you'll want to make sure you get it when you have a chance. You can grab the update, or if you're not a current UberSocial user you can become one, at the link below.

UberSocial Theme

We have previously seen various themes become available for UberSocial for BlackBerry but downloading them required you to go to the UberSocial site instead of just being able to grab it right through AppWorld. That seems to have changed, and now all the themes are listed in AppWorld for your easy downloading pleasure. I'm not sure if these get updated periodically, I would assume they will be updated when the app is updated, so it will be much easier to get notified of these updates having installed it through AppWorld. If you are an UberSocial for BlackBerry user be sure to hit the link below and check the themes out!
