Trillian For BlackBerry

It's been a while now since the intial release of Trillian for BlackBerry which, launched into BlackBerry App World with version 1.0. Now, the Trillian team has been busily working on version 1.1 which is now available as a free beta download. The latest release takes a lot of the feedback generated from the first beta and implements it by offering many bug fixes and even more improvements to the application as a whole.

Changes In Version 1.1 Include:

  • Landscape support.
  • Messages inbox integration.
  • New emoticon button and browser.
  • Group contact list by service.
  • Option to start Trillian on device boot.
  • Much faster opening of message windows.
  • ‘Connect all’ and ‘disconnect all’ options.
  • Various other bugfixes and minor improvements.

This latest release is now available as a free OTA download and any feedback of course is appreciated as it will help make the application better in the longrun. Those of you out there that have bought Trillian in the past, will get a free upgrade to this version upon its release as well, so no need to worry about purchasing the app again.

Trillian

It wasn't all that long ago we found out that Trillian was coming to BlackBerry. We made sure folks knew about the release and even did up a review of the beta for you all. Now, a few short months later we have the officially released version available for download through BlackBerry App World. As noted on the Trillian blogs, Trillian is available for $4.99 as an introductory offer so if you're interested you might want to grab it up as soon as possible in case the price increases at some point. Sadly though, no free trial of the instant messaging application is currently available. For $4.99 we certainly hope Cerulean Studios reconsiders the possibility of putting in say a "light" version for users to at least try out.

Review: Trillian beta for BlackBerry

Trillian

It wasn’t too long ago when we reviewed IM+; the all-in-one messenger. IM+ united various instant messengers/chat features from social networks and allowed users to manage their accounts from a single location. While it is a great solution for keeping in contact, there are also other options available out there. For example; there is Nimbuzz, which we have reviewed in the past as well; you can check it out here. These are welcome additions to any BlackBerry, especially since not everyone is a BB user; which means no access to BlackBerry Messenger. Don’t ask me why they don’t own a BlackBerry, that’s just silly talk if you ask me.

Trillian is a multi-platform application that “lets you chat everywhere” and has other 450 features available (not all of the features are available for the BlackBerry). The application is currently in public beta for BlackBerry users. From your BlackBerry, you can connect to Windows Live, Yahoo!, Jabber, Google Talk, MySpaceIM, Facebook, ICQ, AIM and Astra (allows you to connect and share with other Trillian Astra users). Let’s see if Trillian can prove that it’s the “Ultimate Instant Messenger”

Since we first posted about Trillian for BlackBerry many users have downloaded it and given it a test drive. Not all was perfect with the app though for some out there, many users reported some issues which is often the case when beta apps hit mass consumption. Trillian has recognized the problems, thanks to feedback and has now released the latest beta build for everyone to download. Lots of bug fixes have been implemented here. Full list below:

  • 'Auth' contacts should be in offline group
  • AutoText support
  • BIS connection problems
  • Can't add accounts once signed in
  • Constant Red LED
  • Double spacebar & auto caps support
  • Fix LED speed to mirror standard speed
  • Hide avatars and other internal images from BB Media app
  • LED color support
  • List control not exposing expand/collapse menu options
  • Usernames with "_" aren't being allowed but should be
  • Improvements to battery usage

Hopefully, all these bugfixes will lead to a better all experience for end users. That said, if you checked out the beta previously and were not happy maybe give this build a shot and if it works out better for you.

Trillian for BlackBerry beta now available for download

Just yesterday we posted that the Trillian instant messaging application would be arriving in beta form on BlackBerry soon. I guess the folks at Trillian weren't kidding. If you head on over to the mobile download page for Trillian you'll find that version 1.0.0.204 is now available for download. The beta they are offering up is trial limited, so at some point it will indeed expire but they do not indicate when. Having used it for the past day, I suggest downloading and giving it a try. The list of supported devices can be viewed via the Trillian website and yes, the BlackBerry Storm is supported already. As well as the BlackBerry Pearl 3G although the website does not indicate that model. You can also share your thoughts on it here in the comments or in the CrackBerry forums.

Trillian for BlackBerry Trillian for BlackBerry

A few week back we got a tease that Trillian for BlackBerry was indeed on the way, and just got word that the public beta should be available in the next few days. I've played around with the app a bit, and I have to say I'm impressed. It integrates multiple IM services well and makes for an easy one-stop for your messaging. Trillian supports MSN, Yahoo, AIM, ICQ, MySpace, Facebook, Jabber and Google Talk. The app has a clean layout and is easy to navigate, and has visual notifications as well as LED indicator. Features include:

  • Send pictures
  • Stay signed on for up to 7 days with the application closed
  • Contact avatars
  • Manage your contact list - group contacts, rename contact list items, sorting and offline contact preferences
  • Alerts and notifications: LED alert, email push notifications, full integration with standard profiles
  • Set local display name, set local avatar
  • Copy & paste in message windows
  • Privacy managment (blocking, visibility controls, etc)
  • View user information (AIM profiles, etc)

The Trillian team will be taking in feedback throughout the beta to make things even better. The app will be available as a beta until a full release is ready, at which point it will be available in BlackBerry App World for around $5-10 (price has yet to be determined). We'll let you know when it is available for download, but for now hit the jump for some more screenshots.

Trillian Instant Messenger Application Coming Soon To BlackBerry

Trillian has been quite a popular instant messaging application on many platforms. Mac, PC and Linux all have desktop versions. The only mobile implementation so far has been on the iPhone. That is, until now. Trillian has announced they are going to be bringing a full blown multi platform instant messaging client to BlackBerry. It's not released as of yet but, you can sign up to be notified when it does indeed become available. Looks pretty impressive from the screenshots they have displayed. Shout out to dumb4ever for letting us know about it in the CrackBerry forums.
