Photo Booth Pro

Photo Booth Pro turns your BlackBerry smartphone into a photo booth that you can stick in your pocket! The Photo Booth, you can find them at almost every mall and they’re used for almost any occasion. You may have seen people acting like absolute goofs in the booth (you’ve done it too, admit it). Others may use them to take more memorable, or serious, shots like for headshots or forms of ID. To be honest, I’m not sure what type of use makes me laugh more. They’re all entertaining, although slightly inconvenient due to location limitations. Now before you go out and start pricing a photo booth for your house, I should point you in the direction of a BlackBerry smartphone app called Photo Booth Pro.

With this app, you can take four consecutive pictures and then choose to apply up to 8 different effects to them. Alternatively, you can also select from some of your finest shots already stored in your internal or external memory. Hey, if you can connect to a Bluetooth printer, you can set up shop, as a portable photo booth, anywhere! Let’s see if Photo Booth Pro can keep up with your potentially lucrative summer job.

SilentCam

*Click!*

Ah the sound of a picture being taken. The sound of the “shutter” is designed to make picture taking much less discreet. This is to protect the rights, and privacy, of individuals. It also makes it damn hard to snap a pic of an unreleased product (say a smartphone from a certain company), without drawing attention to yourself. You would then have to resort to an obnoxiously loud fake cough to attempt to cover up what you are doing. Whether you find it annoying or not, the shutter sound is here to stay, or is it?

ToySoft Development Inc came up with an application called SilentCam. As you may have guessed, it offers an alternative (and silent) way to take a picture. This is workaround as it takes a screen shot of the “view finder” rather than taking a picture. The image is captured and saved without anyone being the wiser. Now keep in mind that you cannot alter the image resolution at all when saving the image; however you can zoom in and out of the picture before it’s saved. The image quality will differ, depending on which BlackBerry smartphone you are using. The image resolution will be 640 x 480 on a BlackBerry Bold 9900 but will be a 480x360 on a BlackBerry Bold 9780.

Features

  • Save the screen without the shutter sound
  • Save the System Pictures folder or SD Card folder
  • Save 1 or up to 20 pictures in one take
  • Set the delay between each take
  • Automatically quit the application when finished taking the picture(s)
  • Zoom in and out
  • Set up vibration notification
  • Run the Picture application after image is saved
  • Picture is saved in JPG uncompressed format
  • Easy to use

Other options allow you to quit the application after the image has been taken, change the Auto Focus status (from off, continuous or single shot), or include the date/time in the image. Whether or not you agree with bypassing the shutter sound, SilentCam does work quickly and quietly. Being able to take up to 20 images is a bonus as well. If you do decide to pick up SilentCam, make sure you use it for the forces of good! Have you been in a situation where you needed to capture something bad happening but you were afraid of getting caught by the shutter sound? You can grab SillentCam, for $0.99, from BlackBerry App World. Screenshots of the application menu after the jump

Profile Changer

I love having different profiles to use and customize on my BlackBerry smartphone. It makes it so easy to mute the ringtone audio when I get to work, or helps me identify which email account received a new message. Despite how easy I just said it was, I do tend to forget to switch them from time to time. I’m pretty sure my employees love hearing the theme song to The Big Bang Theory when a phone call comes in.

Toysoft Development Inc has recently come up with a profile changing application design only for OS 7.1 and up; and it’s aptly named Profile Changer. No matter if your BlackBerry is in your pocket, a case or sitting there with a locked keyboard, this application will make sure your profiles are changed for you, whenever you want. Basically, Profile Changer can switch profiles using a few different scenarios. First, you can set a Timed Profile change, which is then turned on and off specific times of your choosing. You can then select which days of the week you want to have it active on. Next, Calendar Keyword allows you to assign a keyword to a profile change. You then include that same keyword in a Calendar Entry; say a meeting with your boss. From the time that your appointment starts, to the time it ends, your profile is set to the type you want. Profiles can also be set to switch by simply charging your phone. The last type is Location based (cell tower triangulation), which is my favourite type. This means that I can easily switch to an office setting, simply by arriving at the office.

Features

  • Designed specifically for BlackBerry Smartphone OS 7.1 and higher
  • Supports three types of Profiles: Daily/Weekly timer, Calendar keyword integration and Location base. You can mix and match Timed profile with Location profile
  • Works when the keyboard or screen is locked, in Holster or device has a password lock without user intervention
  • Automatically Set Profile when you charge your BlackBerry Smartphone
  • One Time Profile when you just do not want to be disturbed. You can set it from 5 minutes to 10 Hours and Profile Changer will automatically set the Sound Profile back
  • Backup and Restore of all your Profiles to the SD Card. SD Card is required. Very useful when you upgrade the BBOS.
  • Automatically creates Scheduled Calendar Profile when you enter a keyword when create a new appointment. Profile Changer will automatically switch Profile when the appointment happens and switch it back when the appointment is done. No more worry about your phone ringing in bad situations
  • Scan the entire Calendar application for keywords so you can use your already setup appointments. You can even setup keywords in the future like next year
  • All profiles are limited to 64

It seems as though Profile Changer works on both official and leaked OS 7.1, at least it does for me anyway. If you like to frequently change profiles, you should definitely pick up Profile Changer for BlackBerry smartphones. It’s available for $2.99 from BlackBerry App World.

Call Filter Pro

If you have a BlackBerry smartphone running OS 6 or higher, you need to check out the Call Filter Pro from ToySoft Development Inc. Yes, we have seen call filtering applications that block unknown, private and undesired calls before, but this is by far one of the most user-friendly and powerful filter apps. What I like about this type of application is the freedom it brings you. How many people do you know that continuously ignore calls from the same number? Or have you heard “I’m not getting this, who’s calling?!” time and time again? Changing a number, especially from a coveted number ending in 0000, is a hard thing to do.

HomeScreen Missed Calls

What do you do if you miss a call on your BlackBerry smartphone? Do you click “View” on the native missed call popup, or do you click close? If I’m busy, I’ll ignore it for the moment and wait to see if a voicemail is left. Besides, I could always check by pressing on the green call button. There is quite a few times where I do forget to check, until hours later. By that time, it’s too late. I do have friends that, annoyingly, do not leave a voicemail, as they expect me to call back out of curiosity (*cough*Isaac*cough). Believe me when I say it’s not because I don’t want to talk to you. Unless it’s you, no not you…you! Yes, I’m probably ignoring you.

HomeScreen Missed Calls takes an interesting approach in telling you who you have just ignored/missed. Those callers you failed to connect with are displayed on your home screen; a constant reminder of how disconnected you actually are. Missed calls are actually represented by pictures/icons, so even if you clear the missed call popup, you can be reminded each time you check your BlackBerry smartphone; which you do almost every 10 minutes or so anyway!

VirtualHair

Some people are just born with an amazing head of hair. There are those have a great natural colour and others that will never know the horror of a receding hairline. I talk of the ones that have picture perfect hair; the ones who must have an army of stylists consistently making sure every single strand is in the right place. I’m sure you know someone whose locks look like a helmet and must be placed on their head like Darth Vader’s helmet. Others are not so lucky and have yet to find the perfect style.

Toysoft Development Inc came up with an entertaining (and funny) way to see which style is best for you through their app called VirtualHair for BlackBerry smartphones. All you need is a headshot of yourself (preferably from head on) in order to do some hair shopping. Browse through over 30 different hairstyles for both women and men. VirtualHair also lets you change the size and colour of the hair until you find a suitable match. When you are finished, you add a frame (optional), then save it, email it or update your BBM avatar.

Features

  • BBM Connected application requires BBM version 6.0.120 and higher. Send the picture to anyone in your BBM Contact list
  • Includes both women and men hair styles
  • Load saved picture to use as the model
  • Take a picture of the Model with the camera
  • Freehand placement with the hair on Touch screens
  • Adjust the width and length of the hair
  • Flip hair horizontally
  • Change the color of the hair
  • Add frame to the finished make over
  • Save or email the finished make over
  • All touch screen support
  • Keyboard shortcuts for all the features
  • Supports BlackBerry OS5 and higher

If anything else, it’s great for a laugh. Though I think my new best friend in the image above might like my new style, what do you think? You can pick up VirtualHair for $0.99 from BlackBerry App World.

Winnipeg Jets CrackBerry

The only thing more Canadian than BlackBerry is hockey, so it's a no brainer that I'm super stoked about the return of the Winnipeg Jets to Canada. My hometown city is buzzing now that our Jets are coming back, and to help celebrate their return the folks at Toysoft are giving away 1996 free BlackBerry apps (1996 was the year the Jets moved from Winnipeg to Phoenix for those of you that don't know hockey).

The full list of apps/games includes pretty much all of Toysofts offerings, so you can grab some great stuff totally free from the CrackBerry App store. The first 1996 people to redeem the code can snag a free app, and the only thing we ask is that you are honest and only use the code one time for yourself (don't want people being greedy and using up all the codes). Keep reading for details and the full list of apps you can grab. Thanks to the guys at Toysoft for the great offer! Go JETS Go!!

imgEdit by Toysoft updated to v2.0

imgEdit v2.0 by Toysoft

Back in July we let you know about a new image editing application from Toysoft Development called imgEdit. This app is handy for anyone that enjoys taking pictures with their BlackBerry, but maybe wants to do a little editing before sending it off to grandma. Well good news! ImgEdit has been updated to v2.0, and it's on sale for just $3.99 right now! The entire user interface has been given an overhaul, and in my opinion the whole app is now much easier to use and very intuitive.

From the developer:

You can use imgEdit to manipulate the image such as rotating in 90, 180 and 270 degrees, flip and mirror the image, add special effect such as GreyScale, Sepia, Negative, Emboss, Scatter and many more effects. If the image is too big to send via email you can resize the image, add custom text, import a frame image to put around the image. For advanced users you can use the RGB and HSB feature to alter the color of the image. An added bonus is the Warhol effect. Changes in the image can be saved in JPG format or email to anyone.

ImgEdit integrates with the Media, Files and Camera application. Take a picture with the camera app and edit the picture right there. ImgEdit is available for BlackBerry devices running OS 5.0 and 6.0. For more information check out the links below!

animClock

It can be handy to see the clock on your BlackBerry while it's charging, whether it's at night or maybe during the day while you're at work and your device sits on your desk. Until now you were pretty much stuck with the standard analog or flip style clock that comes pre-loaded with your device's OS if you wanted to do this. Now there is a new app from Toysoft that allows you to customize the charging screen however you like.

AnimClock is basically an analog clock that comes pre-loaded with a few different skins you can choose from.  Where it gets interesting is that not only can you choose which skin you want, you can also choose to show either a static background from your own images, or you can have it rotate through images in a folder on your device. You can even choose to just have a color as the background. If you choose not to show an image, animClock will also show some information along with the skinned clock you picked. This information includes your battery percentage, battery temperature, and date/time. All of this info can be toggled on or off as well, so you only see what you want to see.

It doesn't end there. You can click a link in the application's menu to get more clock faces. This takes you to the Toysoft website, where they have a few more skins you can download as well as complete instructions and some awesome templates for making your own. The only catch I saw was that in order to have the app automatically open when you plug in your BlackBerry, you have to also purchase MegaAlarm. Otherwise, you can just open up animClock manually either when you plug in or whenever you want a screensaver to display.

AnimClock is compatible with most BlackBerry devices, and is available for just $0.99 in the CrackBerry store. There is a free trial as well, so if you're interested but unsure about it you can try before you buy.

MegaHorn

Sometimes you just need to make some noise. Whether you like to play jokes on your friends, or just need to get someone's attention, MegaHorn from ToySoft is sure to help you. With 20 air horn sound effects to choose from, you are sure to find just the right one for whatever your needs are. Included sounds are:

  • Long Horn, Short Horn, Train Whistle, Tug Boat, Fire Truck, Police Siren, Police Siren2, Intruder Alert. Tornado Siren, Warning Siren, Alarm Clock, Smoke Alarm, Phone Ringing, Buzz, Heart Monitor, Pager Beep, Dog Whistle, Car Honk, Temple Bell Fox NFL Theme

You can adjust the volume and/or stop the selected sound while it's playing, and navigation is very simple. MegaHorn works on all BlackBerry smartphones running OS 4.3 and above, including BB6 and touchscreen. MegaHorn is just $.99 in the CrackBerry store, and there is a free trial available also.

Contest: ToySoft has been kind enough to give us 30 free copies of MegaHorn to pass on to our readers. Leave us a comment below to be entered. Multiple entries won't be counted, and winners will be chosen randomly at midnight PST. Good luck!

KidsABC

Toysoft has just released a fun little game called KidsABC that is designed to help you teach your child the English alphabet through pictures and sound. Each letter has been assigned a colorful picture with a corresponding animal. You can choose to have the application read the letters out loud, or you can use it with the volumn turned off as a way to quiz your child. You can use the easy on screen controls to navigate forward and backward through the alphabet, and touchscreen is also supported. What a great way to entertain your toddler and teach them letters and animals when you're stuck in line at the bank or in a waiting room. Pick this one up today for only $.99 in the CrackBerry store.

imgLite

ToySoft has developed a lite version of their popular imgEdit application called imgLite that provides a simple way to resize, rotate, and crop images right on your device. ImgLite not only gives you those options, but also the ability to add several different borders to your newly cropped/resized image, all from within the media, file, and camera apps. There are some other nice features as well, such as choosing where you want the edited images to save and what quality you want the resulting .jpg to be.

Features:

  • Works with BlackBerry OS5 and OS6
  • Very small footprint
  • Integrates with the System Media, Files and Camera applications
  • Resize and Crop pictures in jpg, bmp, gif and png formats
  • Rotate image
  • Saves in JPG format with quality control
  • Allows you save to different folder
  • Crop the current screen. Perfect when you zoom in on a picture in the Media app
  • Add border to the resized and cropped picture

A free trial of imgLite is available, or you can go ahead and purchase it for $1.99 in the CrackBerry store. ImgEdit is still available (and on sale this week!) if you want more options than imgLite provides
