Thumbplay, has recently posted about a contest they are having where you can win yourself a BlackBerry smartphone. The catch? Well you have to be in the US for one and secondly, you gotta make them a really cool demo video for the Thumbplay application. If you can fit into that criteria then you are well on your way. The prize packs include:

  • First place: a new Android, iPhone or BlackBerry smartphone (max value $500) AND a free year of Thumbplay Music
  • 2nd Place: 6 months of Thumbplay, free
  • 3rd Place: 3 months of Thumbplay, free

You'll have to catch the full details and contest rules over at Thumbplay but, this could be a rather easy way to win yourself a new smartphone. Of course, we know you'll all pick a BlackBerry. You're CrackBerry readers, come on!

Review of Thumbplay Music Store for BlackBerry Smartphones

Streaming Music is now as much as part of the BlackBerry Culture as e-mail, BBM, and track pads. Personally I use my BlackBerry more than any other source for music. Having a great music application, for many, is really a need and not just a want. Thumbplay introduced their own version of streaming music/music store just a little while ago and CrackBerry has given a lucky few some free three month subscription. Promising effortless playlist creation from millions of tracks, access to any album and artist, and wireless sync with you PC or Mac make this app look like a contender. In a world dominated by internet streaming radio for your BB device with great apps like Pandora, iHeart Radio, an app like Thumbplay might get overlooked, but this app should be on your radar.

Thumbplay Music

When looking for the latest and greatest way to get music on your BlackBerry there are loads of options. Streaming apps like Pandora and Slacker come to mind, but there are also apps that give you direct on-demand access to artists and albums. Thumbplay does just that, and quite possibly better than anyone else. With Thumbplay Music, you can find the music you want, when you want it. You can listen even when you're offline, and build your own personal music collection on the fly. The full service runs $9.99/month, but we have 30 free 90 day subscriptions to give away. Just leave a single comment on this post to enter. Contest ends this Sunday at midnight PDT.

Please note: You MUST have a US phone number and live in the US to use the Thumbplay Music. The service currently supports the 96xx, 9000, 9700, 8900, 95xx and 85xx series.

*Update: Just a quick note that Thumbplay is currently only available in the US so sadly anyone outside the States is out of luck on this one. Apologies on the late notice *

Back in January we saw the Thumbplay Music Store that was shown off at CES. We gave away some free-trials, and are happy to announce we have a few more to give out to the CrackBerry Nation. Thumbplay is out of private beta and has added some device support to their lineup, so users with a Tour 9630, Curve 8900, Storm, Bold 9000 or Bold 9700 can now get in on the action. Thumbplay lets you stream music from their database, as well as create playlists and buy songs right from the app. The full service is priced at $9.99/month (a free 3-day trial is available via BlackBerry App World), but we have 30 free 30-day trials to give away. To enter to win, just leave a single comment on this post. Winners will be picked at random and the contest ends this Sunday at midnight PST.

More fun on the way this week, and thanks as always to everyone that entered, and congrats to all the winners. If you'd like to run a contest of your own, drop a line to editorial(at)crackberry.com and we'll get it set up. Hit the jump for the list of winners. Congrats!

At CES, Thumbplay was showing off their music app for BlackBerry and announced a private beta for the new service. The Unlimited Music App is a subscription based service that allows you to stream music (you don't actually purchase the songs) from Thumbplay's huge database on both your device and PC. You can create playlists, wirelessly sync, use autoplaylists and buy songs right from the app. The full app should be available in the coming weeks and will be priced at $9.99/month.

Contest: The Thumbplay Unlimited Music App is currently in private beta, but we have 50 free 30-day subscriptions to give away. This will get you a sneak peak before everyone else. To use the app, you'll have to have a US phone number and be using either a Tour 9630, Bold 9000 or Curve 8900. To enter, just leave a comment on this post. Contest ends this Monday at Midnight PST. Good luck!

Back in August we blogged about Thumbplay's new BlackBerry Music Store app that appeared in App World. That first app was essentially an mp3 music store for BlackBerry, and while it was a nice clean and functional application, it was really a beta for Thumbplay and actually is no longer in App World. However, at CES 2010 last week Thumbplay unveiled the BlackBerry Private Beta for their new Unlimited Music App, which to me looks like a pretty compelling offer for music lovers. Be sure to check out the video above for a walk-through demo and the official press release below.

Essentially, for $9.99/month, you'll gain access on both your computer and smartphone to Thumbplay's massive database (millions of songs & growing). You don't "own" the songs, but can create your own playlists and stream whatever you want to listen to whenever you want to. You can also take advantage of autoplaylists, or if you want to own a particular song you can buy it at anytime directly. Be sure to check out the full details below - there's wireless syncing of playlists and a number of other features.

The official release should be soon, but if you want to try and get in early you can apply for the private beta at music.thumbplay.com. I'm always surprised at how many similar yet different models of streaming music are now available out there. I think this is one of the pricier of the bunch (Rhapsody is more at $14.99/mo), but also seems to be one of the most complete in terms of what you get - basically every song you can possibly want to listen to, on demand. Not bad! So what do you think? Sound off in the comments!
