BlackBerry PAYG UK

With the BlackBerry Smartphone being so popular here in the UK, one predicament that many parents may well have when buying a lower end device for their children is do they go down the contract route or Pay As You Go (PAYG). I thought I would have a look at the options and compare the costs over a two year period, as this is how you get the best deal on a contract.

For my little experiment I have only used one carrier and that is T-Mobile UK. The reason I have chosen them is due to them offering the best option when is comes to BIS (BlackBerry Internet Service) on PAYG.

The device I have used for the comparison is the new BlackBerry Curve 9320 as I strongly believe this will be the most successful handset with the younger generation over the next year or so.

More UK networks stock the BlackBerry Curve 9320

Following yesterday's launch of the BlackBerry Curve 9320, more UK networks have added the newest member of the Curve family to their roster of BlackBerry smartphones.

Yesterday we saw T-Mobile UK and O2 add the listing to their websites, while Three confirmed that they will stock it but have no release date. Orange has also joined in on the Curve 9320 fun. Carphone Warehouse also have it listed on their website and sell it on O2, Orange, T-Mobile as well as Vodafone, who have yet to confirm any pricing details on the Curve 9320.

Here's a rundown of the current network's pricing details on the Curve 9320:

  • T-Mobile UK - Free from £15.50 per month on a 24 month contract. Also on pay as you go for £149.99
  • O2 UK - O2 currently have it available on pay as you go for £149.99
  • Orange - Free from £20.50 a month on a 24 month contract and also  pay as you go for £139.99

Update: O2 UK also have the BlackBerry Curve 9320 available through their website. You can get the Curve 9320 on O2 UK for free on all tariffs.

Today RIM officially announced the BlackBerry Curve 9320. Straight off the mark T-Mobile UK and Three UK have both announced through their respective Twitter accounts that the latest Curve model is available on their network. T-Mobile UK, usually a network that releases BlackBerry smartphones a lot later than other UK networks, had previously outed the Curve 9320 by showing that it was coming soon to the network before RIM even made an official announce of the device.

T-Mobile UK already has the BlackBerry Curve 9320 available to purchase through their website. You can get it for free from £15.50 per month on a 24 month contract. Three UK on the other hand lets you get your mitts on it for £140 on pay as you go, although it is yet to appear on their website.

The BlackBerry Curve 9320 comes preloaded with BlackBerry 7.1, has a 3.2 megapixel camera and an FM Radio, to name a few of its features. Don't forget it also brings back the left convenience key in the form of a dedicated BBM key, though it does seem like this is configurable to launch any application you want. Three UK gives a video sneak peak which you can watch above.

BlackBerry Curve 9320 Blue

The BlackBerry Curve 9320 has been popping up all over the place the last few weeks. We saw it in the forums not too long ago, and just yesterday listed on T-Mobile UK as coming soon. Here again we have another quick shot of the Curve 9320 - this time not only in black, but also blue. We've seen photos of the black/silver combo all along, but this is the first time we've seen a different version. We're not totally sure if this edition (or any others) will be offered up by carriers, but I could definitely get down with a blue device.

What are your thoughts? Is blue a good color for a device? Sound off in the comments!

BlackBerry Curve 9320 coming soon to T-Mobile UK

We have previously posted some sneak peaks and sightings of the upcoming BlackBerry Curve 9320, but nothing had been officially confirmed by RIM to say that the device would be released. T-Mobile UK has jumped the gun though and has posted the BlackBerry Curve 9320 on their coming soon page as being due for release in May.

The entry level Curve 9320 looks to be an upgrade to the Curve 9300 (3G) and will be running BlackBerry 7. If you missed it the first time around, you can check out the Curve 9320 specifications from here.

The Curve 9320 also brings back the left-convenience key but this time as a BBM dedicated button which I find to be a pretty neat feature. You can register on the T-Mobile UK website to get updates on when it will be available.

BlackBerry Bold 9790

The last two UK networks have now released the BlackBerry Bold 9790. Orange and T-Mobile UK, part of Everything Everywhere, have both released the Bold 9790. Orange offers the device for free from £31 a month on a 24-month contract while T-Mobile UK has it free on the £36 and above tariffs, including T-Mobile's newly introduced The Full Monty Plan where you can get unlimited calls, texts and data.

So, if you're any of those two networks or looking to join them head into an Orange or T-Mobile store now to check out the deals they have on offer for the Bold 9790. Alternatively, check out the deals online using the links below.

T-Mobile UK BlackBerry Curve 9320

It looks like T-Mobile UK is ramping up to launch the BlackBerry Curve 9320. Watchful CrackBerry member Cemil pointed out to us that the accessories website for T-Mobile UK now has a page set up for the unofficial device, leading us to believe that at some point in the near future the device will not only be announced, but released as well. It looks like at this time the accessories listed are fairly generic (ie chargers, headphones, car kits, etc) but it's a good start. You can check out the updated BlackBerry 2012 roadmap for an idea of when this device and others should be available this year.

T-Mobile UK Tweet - Unlimited data bundles

Over a year ago we saw networks get rid of their unlimited data bundle. It was just a well anyway since their 'unlimited' offer came with a fair usage policy. Then, in December 2010 we also saw Three UK introduce their All-you-can-eat data bundle with their The One Plan. It offered customers unlimited data with no fair usage policy so one could download, stream all the wanted without having to think about going over their data bundle. Today, T-Mobile UK follows suit and has announced The Full Monty tariff. The plan offers unlimited data with no fair usage policy but it doesn't stop there, it also gives customers unlimited calls and texts. This first plan of its kind in the UK.

The Full Monty plans start at £36 a month, with another three tariffs going up - £41, £46 and £61. All are 24 month contracts. The £36 a month tariff however, is the only one not to offer unlimited calls. You get 2000 minutes, which for many maybe more than enough anyway.

The Full Monty Plan will be available from February 1 to new customers. No details have been given as to whether existing customers can move on the plan. For more details check out the T-Mobile UK website.

BlackBerry Bold 9900 and Torch 9860

As you may have noticed from my BlackBerry Buyer's Guide that T-Mobile and Orange had yet to release a BlackBerry 7 device, leaving our CrackBerry users on those networks out to dry. Today however, that has changed as both T-Mobile and Orange have pulled a double-whammy and released both the BlackBerry Bold 9900 and the Torch 9860.

On Orange the Bold 9900 is available free from £41 a month on a 24-month contract and T-Mobile has it free from £40.85 per month on a 24-month contract. With the Torch 9860 you can get the Bold 9900 free from £36 a month on a 24-month contract on Orange and £35.74 a month on a 24-month contract from T-Mobile.

T-Mobile and Orange can now rejoice that they can finally get their hands on some BlackBerry 7 devices. It's not surprising to see both networks release the devices at the same time since they merged a few years back, to create Everything Everywhere, but still trade under their own names. The merge means that customers on each network can roam on the other network without being charged.

BlackBerry Buyer's Guide UK Networks

A week ago we had a look at the BlackBerry smartphones available on each of the top 5 UK networks. This list consisted of devices available on contract. With Pay and Go very popular in the UK, it was only right to roundup a list of all BlackBerry devices available for users who prefer Pay and Go.

You may want to bookmark this post as it will be updated accordingly, when new devices get added. Namely, the BlackBerry 7 devices we are all eagerly waiting for.

BlackBerry Buyer Guide UK networks

Here in the UK we have the top 5 networks for buying your mobile phone on - O2 UK, Vodafone UK, T-Mobile UK, Orange and Three. Although T-Mobile and Orange trade under an individual name they merged back in July 2010, so a lot of their tariffs end up being very similar if not the same. With a handful of networks it is sometimes hard to know what networks sells which BlackBerry and where the best deal lies. Of course you have Phones 4 U and Carphone Warehouse that deal with all the networks but first off we shall look at BlackBerry devices and tariffs available directly from the networks. The costs shown are for a 24-month contract. For an 18-month contract add £5 to the monthly cost, unless otherwise stated.

T-Mobile Free SIM

It seems T-Mobile are prepping for the holidays already and they have a gift for BlackBerry lovers new (and old). They are offering free BlackBerry SIM cards with free internet and BlackBerry email for six months, providing you sign up before January 31st 2011. After that you can get BIS for £5 per month or £20 for six months. If you top-up £10 each month you'll also get unlimited texts.

This is great for those looking to try out BlackBerry and do not want a long contract. Of course you'll need a BlackBerry device to make it work.

T-Mobile UK Prepares For BlackBerry Storm 2 Launch

Folks have been enjoying their BlackBerry Storm2's for a while now in the UK but due to an exclusive deal with Vodafone, carrier selection has been slim. With T-Mobile UK's recent announcement that will change and consumers will have another choice when picking up the BlackBerry Storm 2. Sometime this month, the device will be released on the T-Mobile UK network.

In addition to the announcement of the Storm 2 launch, Phil Lander, T-Mobile’s account director at RIM,  also confirmed that they’ll have an official Twitter application shortly. We already knew that but to hear it come way of a Research In Motion employee gives us hope we'll see it sooner then later.
