AT&T BlackBerry Bold 9900!

After all of our whining and petitioning and complaining about AT&T taking forever to release the BlackBerry Bold 9900, it feels weirdly awesome to finally start to see some "official" style photos of the touchscreen Bold start to surface. The image above was sent in our CrackBerry tip line just a few minutes ago, showing off the AT&T branded Bold 9900 alongside the box it will ship in. Pure awesome.

If you missed the announcement earlier this week, the Bold 9900 goes on sale November 6th for $199.99 on a 2 year contract. And if you're planning on picking one up, be sure to enter our AT&T BlackBerry Bold 9900 accessory contest for a chance to win some goodies for your new phone. Follow the links below for more info. God I love this phone.

AT&T BlackBerry Bold 9900 accessories

Oh, AT&T. How you tease BlackBerry Bold 9900 fans. Announcements, Tweets, removal of said tweets and now -- accessories. No telling how long AT&T stores have been stockpiling these but word is things are 'on schedule' for the BlackBerry Bold release. Whatever that means -- we'd just drawn the conclusion AT&T was nuts for having not already released it. If 'on schedule' means this Sunday -- we really don't know. But it'd be real cool if it happens but we'll wait and see. Thanks, Anon!

Official OS 7.0.0.464 for the BlackBerry Curve 9360 now available from AT&T

Fogetting the fact that AT&T doesn't even sell the device yet for a second, BlackBerry Curve 9360 owners can now grab OS 7.0.0.464 for their device from the AT&T BlackBerry downloads page. This OS, is newer then any other offered by carriers which are already selling the BlackBerry Curve 9360 so it may be worth checking out. Just make sure you delete your vendor.xml file to ensure it installs if you're using say a Rogers or TELUS Curve 9360.

We want the BlackBerry Bold 9900!

This is odd. On October 21st @ATTDeals tweeted out that the BlackBerry Bold 9900 is coming soon. Stay Tuned!. We reported it on Sunday, October 23rd. Now today CrackBerry member igotberryfever noticed that the Bold 9900 tweet has been removed from the @ATTDeals twitter account. What's up with that?! Whatever it is... it doesn't seem positive.

In other related news, I heard from a source the other day who I haven't heard from in years (literally since the original Bold 9000 was delayed on AT&T and he kept me the loop) who provided some insight into the Bold 9900 on AT&T delays stating that RIM's NFC implementation is a sticking point to be blamed on the phone not yet being released...

We want the BlackBerry Bold 9900!

* November 1st Update:  AT&T has OFFICIALLY ANNOUNCED the pricing and release date of the BlackBerry Bold 9900.  You'll be able to get it starting November 6th, for $199.99 on a 2 year contract. *

I've noticed a lot of readers dropping off-topic comments on CrackBerry posts this week asking for an update on the release date of the BlackBerry Bold 9900 from AT&T, so here it is....

Disclaimer: The **best** info I have right now hasn't come in from trusted personal sources, but rather from tips on the good 'ole CrackBerry tip line. I've had a few different people send in similar info over the past ten days. When that happens it's often a good sign of the info being legit (store owners, etc. getting the same info), but since it's not something I have concrete evidence on yet nor is coming from what I consider one of my personal trusted sources, just take it as me passing on the tip line info I have right now to you, to keep you in the loop. And often after making a post like this we'll see a lot more feedback come in saying whether we got it right or wrong, so stay tuned for that. So don't get too excited yet. But at least it's better than nothing.

So with that disclaimer in mind, the best word I have as of now is that it's looking like Sunday, November 6th is the day that both the BlackBerry Bold 9900 and BlackBerry Torch 9860 could become available to consumers. Based on some of the cost info that was sent in as well, on the pricing front it points to the Bold 9900 selling for $199 and the Torch 9860 going for $99 on a standard 2-year contract. Again, don't take this as solid news yet, but I hope it does pan out to be true. November 6th isn't too far away!

And if you go back three years in BlackBerry history, it was actually October 21st, 2008 when AT&T finally announced the BlackBerry Bold 9000 and it was November 4th when it became available to customers. In that case also, other carriers had the 9000 available since August. So maybe, just maybe we'll see history repeat itself here... give or take a few days. If you haven't signed our AT&T BlackBerry Bold 9900 petition yet, do that now, and keep it locked to CrackBerry for more updates as we have them on the Bold 9900 from AT&T!

Hell No, We Won't Go, Give Us the BlackBerry Bold!
Please AT&T... give us a release date for the Bold 9900. We don't want to have to picket :)

Anybody who dare think or say that the passion for BlackBerry is waning need not look further than the reader comments on our Petition to AT&T to Release the BlackBerry Bold 9900. AT&T... you seriously need to read them. It's clear that AT&T CUSTOMERS WANT THEIR BLACKBERRY BOLD 9900s and by not having it released you are losing out!!

On this week's CrackBerry Podcast, we discussed the petition and half-seriously/half-jokingly decided that September 17th would be the day we take to the streets and do some good 'ole fashioned smartphone picketing to bring more real-world attention to our cause if we hadn't received a received word on a release date by then. That's all we're looking for AT&T, just a little better communication about the BlackBerry Bold 9900. Better than a release date we'd like to see it released SOON of course, but I think a lot of us would be happier right now if we just knew when it would become available.

I'm still struggling with a reason of why it hasn't been released seeing as Verizon, Sprint and T-Mobile are all selling the 9930/9900, but at this point I don't even care. The most likely reasoning is actually a positive one -- that AT&T is pushing their exclusive of the Torch 9810 for only $49.99, which is a GREAT DEAL (so thank you for that AT&T). I know quite a few Torch 9800 owners now who have gone ahead and upgraded to the 9810 because of this deal and they're loving it. But I just hate seeing people jonesing for a new BlackBerry any longer than they need to, and I think to a lot of people the Bold 9900 is distinctly different than the Torch 9810.

In the meantime, the petition is still going strong at the link below (and by leaving a petition comment you'll be entered to win an AT&T BlackBerry Bold 9900 when it gets released) so be sure to jump over to the petition and have your voice heard.

AT&T BlackBerry Bold 9900

Dear AT&T,

On behalf of CrackBerry Nation and AT&T subscribers, we the commenters to this blog post request that you hurry up and release the BlackBerry Bold 9900. We feel that "later this year" is too wishy washy of a time frame and rumors pointing to a November launch date are simply too far away. It's unacceptable. With the BlackBerry Bold 9930 already available from Sprint and Verizon, and T-Mobile's Bold 9900 available August 31st nationwide (it's already available on business channels), we think AT&T is really missing out on sales here and ticking off a lot of subscribers who want to upgrade to the BlackBerry Bold 9900 NOW. We know it's not Research In Motion holding things up here -- it's you AT&T -- and we think it's time you change your priorities and make the Bold 9900 available for purchase asap.

Our CrackBerry forums are full of AT&T subscribers looking to buy the Bold 9900 from AT&T, and every day we're getting overloaded with emails and tweets asking when the Bold 9900 will be available from AT&T. There IS demand for this phone and we need the requests to stop (it's distracting!). Enthusiastic BlackBerry fans have chosen not to wait - they are buying BlackBerry Bold 9900s from other carriers to unlock and use on AT&T. The world would be in a better state right now if you did the right thing and put the Bold 9900 up for sale. Delaying its release does not serve the interests of your consumers.

We're not sure why you haven't announced an exact date for the release of the Bold 9900 or put it on sale yet. We get that the now-available BlackBerry Torch 9810 is exclusive to AT&T in the USA so maybe you're giving it some time in the spotlight, but a huge amount of people want the Bold 9900! And if you're delaying its arrival until after a new iPhone launches for some reason, well that's just silly. People who want the best physical keyboard ever put on a smartphone are going to want the Bold 9900 whenever it's released, so it might as well hit the market now. Or maybe you're mad still about the whole BlackBerry Bridge thing on the PlayBook and want to punish RIM a little bit. If that's the case, get over it. The BlackBerry Bold 9900 is too hot a phone to hold back from people's twitchy thumbs.

We appreciate your attention to this matter and look forward to a speedy release of the BlackBerry Bold 9900 on AT&T.

Sincerely,

Kevin Michaluk
Founder, CrackBerry.com

PS. In true CrackBerry fashion, we're going to give away an AT&T BlackBerry Bold 9900 to a member who posts a comment on this petition. Be sure to tell AT&T why you want them to release the BlackBerry Bold 9900 now. The contest is open until AT&T releases the Bold 9900. The day it's available we'll announce the winner. The sooner AT&T gets the Bold 9900 to market, the sooner somebody will win!

AT&T Roadmap

Not exactly a whole lot of surprises to be found on this purported AT&T documentation but the BlackBerry Curve 9360 showing up is interesting considering most U.S. carriers have remained hush about the device and any possible release dates for it. Either way, the BlackBerry Torch 9860 will be making its way to AT&T, along with the BlackBerry Curve 9360 sometime in Q4. Again, not a lot to go on really but we'll take it.

Sadly, you'll notice the BlackBerry Bold 9900 is missing off of this list -- we're not sure why, but maybe that means AT&T is coming to their senses and realized they have way more customers waiting for it than the BlackBerry Torch 9810 and will release it sooner. What? We can hope -- can't we? You of course, shouldn't take this as a sign of the 9900 NOT coming to AT&T -- no one knows how old, accurate the info here is.

ATT 9810

If you are on AT&T and have been dying to get your hands on one of the new BlackBerry 7 devices that just launched, your time is approacing. We have seen the coming soon page go live, and Bla1ze has been hard at work on a full review of the BlackBerry Torch 9810, but has teased us with a nice hands on, along with everything you need to know in under 10 minutes.  AT&T has posted on their Facebook page that the BlackBerry Torch 9810 is set to release on AT&T on August 21, and they are still touting it to be the first 4G BlackBerry Smartphone. Will you be picking one up, or are you waiting for the BlackBerry Bold 9900 to make its way to AT&T?

Update - AT&T has listed a price of $49.99 on a 2 year contract, which is quite a great price for this device. Does that sway your decision at all?

AT&T

If you're on an unlimited data plan on AT&T, and consider yourself a heavy data user, you may want to pay attention. Like other carriers, AT&T is going to begin throttling speeds once a certain threshold is reached. However, unlike other carriers, AT&T has decided instead of setting a fixed number as the limit, they will simply reduce speeds for customers falling into the top 5% of the heaviest data users. Users will still have unlimited data, and speeds will be restored at the start of the next billing cycle.

The amount of data usage of our top 5 percent of heaviest users varies from month to month, based on the usage of others and the ever-increasing demand for mobile broadband services.  To rank among the top 5 percent, you have to use an extraordinary amount of data in a single billing period.

There will be no changes for the vast majority of customers.  It's not how much time you spend using your device, it's what you do with it.  You can send or receive thousands of emails, surf thousands of Web pages and watch hours of streaming video every month and not be in the top 5 percent of data users.

Chances are, this change won't affect you, unless you use an extraordinary amount of data through streaming tons of video/music daily, streaming remote web camera apps, sending large data files, online gaming, or tethering. If you utilize wifi for these things, you aren't using your data plan, so therefore you won't be affected. The changes go into effect October 1, 2011. You can find full details at the source link below.

ATT Campus

AT&T has announced that they will be partnering with 2,000 campuses across the country to bring mobile applications to the attendees instead of handing out campus maps and other paperwork. The applications are designed to enhance the experience of the people attending, giving them easy access to campus maps, phone directory, courses, and campus events. AT&T is working with DubMeNow to provide this service to the students, and users can even customize the application to reflect their school colors, change the banners, and much more. Not only will your BlackBerry be the key to your communication throughout college, but also your one stop shop for what is going on at campus.

BlackBerry 6 Logo

Though we've seen this OS before in leak and official versions for the BlackBerry Torch 9800,  we thought we should go ahead and let you guys know that AT&T has officially released it as well. I'm sure there may be a small group of you out there waiting for this from AT&T so if that's you, then here you go! If you installed the leak or the official version from Vodafone DE last month, no need to re-install this, as they are all the same OS. As with any OS, be sure to do a backup of your device before installing.

Thanks to everyone that sent this in!

BlackBerry Bridge

Remember when the PlayBook was released, and everyone was all giddy to go and download BlackBerry Bridge was soon as it was live, only to realize that AT&T customers were not supported? Well, after what feels like an eternity it appears as though today AT&T customers will have the ability to download the application officially through BlackBerry App World. Users will be able to access information that is coming to their BlackBerry device, such as emails and calendars, free of charge, but if you want to use the web you will be forced to sign up for the $20 tethering package. Keep in mind, you can still download the "unofficial" version from right here but AT&T could still try to charge you in order to get tethering to work.

Update - It's official, folks. A tethering plan will be required for web browsing, and full information on the release can be found here
