PlayBook Gmail Multiple Calendars

The release of OS 2.0 for the BlackBerry PlayBook and its integrated calendar is a dream come true for me. It's one of the features I use the most on my BlackBerry Bold 9930 and it was sorely missed on my PlayBook. Now that it's available, a lot of us are trying to figure out how to make it do exactly as we'd like. Over in our CrackBerry forums some helpful users found a way to sync multiple Google calendars on the PlayBook. We thought this was so great that it deserved a post on the front page and a shout out to all the members commenting in that forum. Also a special shout out to forums member tubbycyclist for such detailed and easy to follow instructions and @jcarty for letting us know you can do the same using Google Chrome. Keep reading to see step by step instructions on how to sync your multiple Gmail calendars with your BlackBerry PlayBook!

Conqu

Back in June, I wrote about a great BlackBerry PlayBook app called Conqu. Now. the great folks over at AsFusion have released both a desktop version of their app as well as a wireless sync option. The app itself is a great task management tool that allows you to organize your to-do list and get things done.

The desktop version has the following options (pretty much the same as the PlayBook app):

  • Quick Add - add multiple tasks quickly
  • Tags - select as many tags as you like to filter your to-do lists
  • Dates - Select a Due date and Scheduled date
  • Bulk Edit -select several items at once and perform an action on them
  • Delegation - delegate tasks to others. With ConquSync (paid service), the delegated tasks appear in the recipients inbox or project list. If the user completes a task, you'll get a notification that it has been completed.

The new ConquSync beta is an online backup and management tool for seamless integration with the Conqu family of applications. ConquSync has a 2 month free trial and a price tag of $53 a year. ConquSync offers:

  • 24/7 access to your data
  • Online backups
  • Integrated task sharing and delegation
  • SSL encryption for security

Office 365 and BB

On Wednesday Microsoft announced on their Office 365 blog that they will be dropping the additional cost they were charging customers to sync their BlackBerry smartphones calendar and address book.

We have exciting news for Microsoft Online Services customers. We are in the process of updating pricing for Hosted BlackBerry Service for Exchange Online to make this service available free of charge. Starting today, BlackBerry mobile e-mail for new Exchange Online customers is now free through our Business Productivity Online Suite (BPOS). For existing customers, we expect to be able to provide more information later this month on how you can take advantage of this change.

If you're unfamiliar with Office 365, it's Microsoft's competitor to Google's business cloud environment Google Apps. Microsoft Office 365 delivers the power of cloud productivity to businesses of all sizes, helping to save time, money and free up valued resources. Read more at the Microsoft blog.

CyberSynchs

Everyone is looking for an easy way to synchronize BlackBerry data, be it to keep as a backup or "just to have it". CyberSynchs is the latest wireless synchronization tool for your BlackBerry to get in on the action. After registering online and download their client, you are ready for setup. You have the option to sync contacts, calendars, notes, call logs, voice mails, and GPS. You can also set sync to manual, or choose to have your data backed up automatically with times from 1 to 10 hours. They have told me that photo and ringtone sync is coming very soon, which will make this application a bit more compelling. It is now in beta and available for download with a 7-day free trial. After the trial, you need to pay a monthly subscription of $2.99. I have personally been using this for about a week now, and it has worked without any problems at all. However, having access to the free wireless synchronization solutions out there like mIQ and Google Sync, this may not fall onto your device as a "must have" application.

Missing Sync for BlackBerry

Whenever possible, I always try to get rid of cables. I use a wireless 802.11G network and am happy not to have to wire every room. I was curious to find out if there was a way to avoid using my USB cable to connect my BlackBerry to my PC. In fact, if your PC supports Bluetooth, it is possible and not too hard to configure. The BlackBerry Desktop Manager is compatible with Bluetooth and will allow you to accomplish some simple tasks without a cable.

New PocketMac Links Macs With Berries

pocketmac

Macs are wonderful. A couple of the guys have them here at the office and we all marvel at their clean colours, softly rounded edges, their purring noises and sounds. We look at them with envy. We all want one.

But, while the Mac is great to look at and great for some applications in reality they have barely made a dent in the corporate market. And from our point of view they didn’t synch up well with Blackberries and the enterprise server.

Well, up until now. Macs have made significant gains in connectivity with enterprise systems over
the years, including Windows 2003 networks and Exchange Servers, but they don't work seamlessly with BlackBerry handhelds. Fortunately, PocketMac for BlackBerry 4.0 is a free app that alleviates this problem.

The guys over at Smart Device Central took a look at the new PocketMac for Blackberry application and came to some conclusions on the efficiency and the drawbacks of the new tool.
