Slacker Radio for BlackBerry PlayBook

A litle something for all you Slacker Radio fans out there. The BlackBerry PlayBook version has been bumped up to v1.2.6, though no change log is noted for the release. Previously, I had some issues with skipping that appear to of have been introduced with PlayBook OS 2.0 so hopefully this release has some bug fixes for that. Either way, the update is available in App World right now.

Slacker Radio ESPN

I have long been a fan of Slacker Radio, and today they announced a new deal with ESPN that locks me in even more. Starting tonight with the BCS Championship Game between LSU and Alabama, Slacker will begin live streaming professional and collegiate sporting events on their ESPN channel.

Initially this will be done via their web channel, but mobile offerings are anticipated to become available in the future.  Future live programming will be available to all Slacker Radio Plus and Slacker Premium Radio subscribers.

Slacker is at CES this week, and I'm sure we'll have some more things to show you from Slacker later in the week.

Slacker

Like Slacker Radio? So do we. While slacker offers their basic free version to everyone, there is nothing like having on-demand access to Slacker’s whole music library in addition to ad-free
customizable radio. Not forgetting the many other great features
Slacker offers:

  • Search and listen to specific songs or albums
  • Cache radio stations, albums and playlists to your smartphone so you can listen without a connection (better battery life, no data usage and uninterrupted playback)
  • Create playlists by typing in songs or by adding them while you listen to Slacker Radio stations and even share them with others.
  • View and listen to real-time "top 50" charts for all Slacker genres based on listener and Slacker DJ interaction
  • Listen to an artist-specific station that will only play songs from a specific artist or band (i.e. Michael Jackson, Jimi Hendrix etc..)

The Slacker Premium Radio service does cost $9.99/mnth but -- we like you guys and luckily, Slacker likes us. That said; they've given us 5 3-month subscriptions to give away to some lucky readers. Drop a comment on this post, we'll pick 5 of you all at a later time as winners. In the meantime, check out the Slacker website to download their free version.

Slacker Holiday

Independence Day weekend is here for all of our US readers, and Slacker Radio has followed in their holiday tradition and created a station with "4th of July" inspired music.

The station features an eclectic mix of tunes that celebrate the holiday and our independence from Louie Louie by The Kingsmen, Footloose by Kenny Loggins to Elton John's Crocodile Rock, Firework by Katy Perry, Holiday by Madonna and Bruce Springsteen's Glory Days... and it of course includes real classics like Battle Hymn of the Republic by Leonard Bernstein, The Stars and Stripes Forever and the Battle of New Orleans by Johnny Horton.

You can check out the 4th of July channel on this Slacker station, and you can download the Slacker BlackBerry app direct from Slacker

While you're in the mood for Slacker, don't forget to take advantage of the free one-month of Slacker Radio Premium

Slacker Radio

Although I often switch between Slacker Radio and Pandora, the new services recently introduced by Slacker have caused me to use it more so then Pandora recently. The PlayBook app is great but the BlackBerry app for a while now has always some minor bugs within including a rather long start up time.

The latest version, while not in BlackBerry App World as of yet has been released via the Slacker website recenty -- having downloaded the v4.0.736 release it looks like start up time has been reduced if nothing else. Still, no change log has been posted but you'll likely want to grab it anyway if you're a Slacker Radio user. Thanks, to all who sent this in!

Slacker Radio Update To Version 3.0.459

It seems Slacker has been pulling some fast upgrades to their streaming radio application. Not too long ago, Ronen over at BerryReview made a post about how version 3.0.458 was now available. Many folks, after reading the post went to download the latest only find out it had been upgraded again to 3.0.459. Strange to say the least but hey, no complaints about fast upgrades that's for sure.
