Discount Calculator Screen

So you're out shopping and you see a huge sale on BlackBerry accessories. You head on over to peruse the selection and see the BlackBerry PlayBook case that you've been wanting is on sale from $49.99 with 45% off. Next to it is one very similar by some other company and it's on sale for $39.99 with 35% off. Which is the better deal? Some of you could figure this out in your head or with your devices calculator. I'm lazy and hate math with a passion so I'd BBM or call my husband to figure it out (feel free to laugh because he does every time I call for something like this). Now, thanks to the Discount Calculator a FREE app by Huy Bui, I can just plug in the numbers, see what the actual sale price is and how much I'm saving.

Discount Calculator is a useful shopping app that helps you calculate the price after discount for an item on sale.Simply input the original price and discount percentage then Discount Calculator will show you the final sale price and how much you will save. It has a simple, easy to use UI and takes up very little space (69 KB). The only addition to this app that I would make is having a spot to input the tax rate so you could see the total price you'd have to pay.

Shopping Apps

With five people in our household, someone always needs something from the store.  I tried the magnetic “Grocery List” pad on the fridge but invariably something was always left off because one person or another forgot to add it.  When I originally saw the shopping list applications in BlackBerry App World, my only real thought was “Yay, no silly piece of paper to carry around anymore.” I only have two hands and my BlackBerry is usually in one of them anyway.  When I found out the lists could be shared between devices, I was sold. My only real decision was which to choose from.  I’m an advocate of free apps so I tend to try those first before any that cost money.  In this review I selected OurGroceries by HeadCode and Shopper by MidCentury Media.  Both applications claimed to be great for organizing multiple lists and allowing them to be shared on numerous devices.  Since both were free, I wanted to see which gave me the most options and if they were as easy to use as they both claimed.

Craigslist Mobile App for BlackBerry by Movela Review

[ youtube video link for mobile viewing ]

Today I will be reviewing the Craigslist Mobile app by Movela. This application is the first version released by Movela and it's version is 1.0 . Most people in the United States have heard of the website craigslist.com. Craigslist is a website where people can post ads for everything and anything you can think of. This site is NOT just for things for sale, but also for things lost or found, activitiy announcements, garage sale listings and even the ever so popular "Personals" section where people can post personal ads. What this application does is allow you to browse the craigslist website on your Blackberry with out having to load the site on your mobile browser. So whether you are looking to find a local garage sale while out and about or looking for a "casual encounter" while out of town on business, Craigslist Mobile had you covered!

Where I used to live, the choices for dining were slim. It’s not always a bad thing; every Monday night was wing night at our favourite hang out. Since I moved to the West Coast, there’s almost too many to choose from!  Part of me wants to stick to familiar places, another part says to venture out and see what else is out there, still another part says to stop going out so much and save the money for a new BlackBerry. After trying to figure out what everyone feels like having to eat, there’s still the decision between the usual place or a new one. At this point, someone may get fed up and decide to order a pizza. Before you surrender to the salivating scent of pepperoni and cheese, grab a spoon…Urbanspoon that is.

At the BlackBerry Developer Conference 2009, Kevin gave us the heads up on Urbanspoon. The application helps you decide where to dine, based on the neighbourhood, cuisine and your budget. We’ve seen it in commercials featuring the ” SighPhone”, but now we users and abusers have the opportunity to search for places to stuff our faces. Grab a napkin and read on!

CrackBerry Mobile App Store Client A to Z

[ youtube video link for mobile viewing ]

With the last A to Z we checked out BlackBerry App World, and in the comments to that post it was requested that I also do an A to Z of the CB app store client. So now, by popular demand, it's time to see how the CrackBerry App Store gets the job done. This one is a bit longer (since there was more to pack in) but covers all the aspects of CrackBerry's app store client. There are many compelling reasons as to why you should keep a copy of the CrackBerry App Store on your BlackBerry. Watch the video above to find out why or jump over to crackberry.com/appstore to learn more and download. Don't forget, in addition to the to the on-device client, there is also the mobile-optimized webstore (crackberryappstore.com) and our full-out computer-optimized app store (click on App Store on our main menu). You can learn more about them at second link below.

A to Z with BlackBerry App World

BlackBerry App World is a few months old and seems to be getting better as the weeks go by. The selection of apps is good, but still no themes to be found. There is a good listing of both Top Free and Top Paid apps, as well as categories to browse through. If you haven't checked it out yet, give it a shot. Check out the video for a run-through of all the features. If you missed it previously, you can also read this article on Getting Apps on your BlackBerry which gives an overview of different app store alternatives for BlackBerry along with some of the pros/cons to each.

New: Appetite for BlackBerry!

Appetite for BlackBerry

I don't know about you, but I can't wait for all of the holiday cooking and baking that will soon appear at my table. There's nothing like feeding two addictions at once (one being the BlackBerry of course). Every year, it seems as though someone brings a new dish. Recipes are scribbled down or recited quickly and exchanged. Sometimes recipes are photocopied or printed out and left in a variety of drawers. When it comes to finding a long forgotten, now sought after recipe, it can become quite a challenge. This is especially true if your recipe box looks more like a paper recycling bin. Fear not, fellow food fanatics, Appetite is on the job!

SimpleLeap Software, the folks behind Cram, helps you satisfy your hunger for organization with this unique application. With Appetite, you can keep track of recipes and search for or create new ones. Your grocery lists and ingredients can be managed as well. I think SimpleLeap Software is on to something; Cram can help students study and Appetite will help them manage healthier meals, eliminating the Freshman 15!! Give in to your cravings and read on.

Digby Review

While I was at WES, I spent some time talking to the good gDigby Logouys from 30 Second Software, makers of Digby. If you haven’t heard of it, Digby is an application that lets you order stuff from your BlackBerry. They have partnered with various companies, such as FTD.com, Godiva Chocolatier, and Vermont Teddy Bear to bring a convenient streamlined ordering process managed entirely from your BlackBerry.
