Shazam Encore

RIM has now rolled out the next app available for free as part of their thank you gifts. You can head on into BlackBerry App World and search for Shazam Encore and save yourself some money on the music 'tagging' service which, is great for looking up and sharing songs you know but can never remember the name of. You can also check out the video for any songs you tag as well -- purchase all from right within the 7Digital Store if you have that installed. Thanks, @NorthsideB!

*Note - Not all devices and carriers are going to be supported. While it shows all countries and devices running 4.6.0 and up are supported, we're going by the info relayed on the BlackBerry App World website and that appears to be somewhat inaccurate at times -- if wrong, don't shoot the messenger*

Shazam for BlackBerry

Popular music discovery app Shazam was just updated to v2.8.0 via BlackBerry App World. This update (from v2.7.0) brings with it the ability to upgrade to Shazam Encore with an in-app purchase as well as improvements to and redesign of the tag screen.

If you are unfamiliar with Shazam, it's an application for discovering, buying, and sharing music. Say you hear a song playing, and you have no idea what it is or what band it is. Open up Shazam and let it listen, and it will identify the song for you. From there you can purchase the song, share tags with friends, read reviews and much more. It's a really popular app and compatible with most BlackBerry smartphones in most countries. Shazam is free to download but the free version limits the number of songs you can identify per month to five.

  • Setting Icon added to homescreen
  • Fixed permissions issues for people using Company phone
  • Reduced App size

Not a huge update but and update nonetheless. The download is live and available now in BlackBerry App World. If you're not seeing it, simply refresh app world and it should appear for you after that.

Shazam For BlackBerry Updated To Version 2.5- Music Videos And 7Digital Music Purchases Added

Shazam for BlackBerry rolled out version 2.5 last week. Some cool new functions were added to the mix with this release that I'm sure most users can appreciate. Especially, since they work quite nicely from my testing. The rundown of new features is as follows:

  • Searching And Launching Of YouTube Videos From Tagged Music.
  • In App Ability To "Tweet" Tagged Music To All Of Your Twitter Followers.
  • Integrated In App Music Purchases Direct From The 7Digital Music Store.

Since its initial release, Shazam hasn't really seen that many updates or functionality added. So these additions are welcomed ones for sure. You can check out the free or paid versions of Shazam in BlackBerry App World. For me, the 5 tags per month the free version offers is enough but other users may want the unlimited tagging options that Shazam Encore brings. In either case, the free version of Shazam does offer a free 7 day trial to try out the service so you can decide.

Shazam Encore Hits BlackBerry App World

The music identification program that is Shazam has been available for a while now. But, their latest premium offering, Shazam Encore is a new addtion to their line up. When it was announced I was kind of left wondering what exactly was in Encore that was not available in the other versions. The free version allows for look up, purchasing and sharing music but the premium version, Encore adds a whole lot more.

Premium Features:

  • Learn more about the music: Read track and album reviews, artist biographies and (starting in North America initially) view song lyrics, plus find other music available from the same artist.
  • Options to find similar music: Discover other music similar to the track you like, to enhance your music collection and knowledge.
  • Find out what’s hot and popular: Access to Shazam music charts generated by millions of other users in your country.
  • Music search capabilities: Enabling you to easily find music by artist, album or track from a database with over 8 million songs.

That's quite a few additions to an already great app. Do they justify the $4.99 price point? Guess that depends on the user. But for myself, I can't really see me paying the cost for the additional options so I will stick with the free limited version that is also available in BlackBerry App World.
