Seesmic

Although Seesmic has been around on BlackBerry for a while now, I'm guessing the constant onslaught of RIM in the past few days may have helped just a little with triggering the blog update from the Seesmic developers. As posted on their blog:

Effective June 30th, Seesmic will discontinue support for Blackberry in order to focus development efforts on our most popular mobile platforms: Android, iOS and Windows Phone 7.

We encourage those effected by this change to try out Seesmic for Android, iOS and Windows Phone 7, as well as Seesmic Desktop and Web.

Sincerely,

Team Seesmic

Ouch! Personally, I've never been a user of Seesmic on my BlackBerry -- I always felt their BlackBerry efforts a little underwhelming and I really can't remember the last time I saw a Seesmic for BlackBerry user in my Twitter timeline. That's not to say they don't make great apps because they really do, Seesmic is my preferred Twitter app on Android but for BlackBerry their offerings weren't all that great. Any Seesmic for BlackBerry users out there going to miss the support?

Seesmic Rolls Out Version 1.3 Of Their Twitter Client For BlackBerry

Seesmic has rolled out the latest version of their Twitter client for BlackBerry. Version 1.3 is now available for download via the Seesmic website. While it's not much of a version jump it does certainly address some of the bugs from previous versions. As listed on the Seesmic blog:

  • Permissions Loop
  • Fixes for Notifications for Replies and DMs
  • Ensure Search Timelines are updating with Geolocation tweets
  • Ensure Updates are shown in your Profile Information.
  • Adding Twitter account with e-mail address
  • Allowing Location Data to be set to allow or deny in Settings
  • Allowing foreign charecters to be shown in Ping.fm account

If you're a fan of using Seesmic for your twitter account be sure to check it out. They also adjusted some of the Ping.fm integration as well, so I'm sure that could be helpful if you use that service.

The second installment of our Ultimate Twitter Client Roundup brings us to Seesmic for BlackBerry. At this time Seesmic is fairly new to the scene, but it already shows tons of promise and the updates keep coming. It doesn't have an overload of features, but its speed and clean interface make it a strong player. The ability to view timelines, mentions, DMs and even lists add to the fun that is Seesmic. Check out the video above for a quick walkthrough.

Seesmic For BlackBerry Updated To Version 1.2.1.9 Now Includes BIS-B Support, Image Preview & More

Seesmic for BlackBerry was updated last night. Getting a version bump up to 1.2.1.9 and including a whole host of changes that people have been asking for. Most importantly, BIS-B support which will allow for a lot more users to connect to Twitter through the application. In addition to BIS-B support, picture preview, deletion and RT of tweets was also added and finally, Google maps integration to make better use of the Twitter Geo location services.

Seesmic is looking like a more complete choice with each and every update. So I guess the question is, anyone using Seesmic over say UberTwitter or SocialScope already? Or do you feel it's not quite there enough yet to make Seesmic your main Twitter app? What do you still want to see in Seesmic to make it your go to twitter client?

Seesmic and Ping.fm jointly announced today that Ping.fm has been acquired by Seesmic. As we have seen recently Seesmic is getting deeply involved in everything "social networking" so the acquisition of Ping.fm just makes total sense. In case you are unfamiliar with Ping.fm, Ping.fm is a social networking and micro blogging service that enables users to post to a ton of social networks simultaneously. Seesmic, running along the same vein, started its life off as an online video hosting site driven by the community. But, video alone was not enough to make Seesmic reach the popularity Loic Le Meur, Seesmic founder, had envisioned. Seesmic began branching out and integrating social networks such as Facebook and Twitter and purchased the popular Twitter client Twhirl. That acquisition gave focus to where Seesmic was headed, and now, we have Seesmic making its name in many way onto many platforms, including BlackBerry, Android and iPhone and that is just in the mobile market. Seesmic is going after the desktop PC and Mac space as well with all their ventures.

The focus here, however, is that of the BlackBerry nature. Most recently, Twitter clients have been hitting hard on the BlackBerry platform and Seesmic, seeing this, wasted no time in jumping in on the action with the release of their Seesmic for BlackBerry client. The client has grown in a very short time with Seesmic accepting feedback from its users and implementing changes rather quickly. Overall, the acquisition of Ping.fm by Seesmic should be a great thing for BlackBerry users in the consumer space.
