Gameloft BlackBerry PlayBook sales

Coinciding with an iOS Chinese New Year promotion, Gameloft now has a bunch of their excellent BlackBerry PlayBook games on sale for $0.99 a pop. These include Asphalt 6, UNOStar Front: Collision, Modern Combat 2, and Eternal Legacy

Gameloft started pumping out a bunch of PlayBook titles this fall, and the quality is second only to EA's titles. Even then, sometimes Gameloft is much more open about doing "homages" to other popular games than EA. Asphalt 6 is a good pick if you've already played the preloaded Need for Speed to death. The familiarity of UNO will be a welcome sight for those looking for something a little more casual. I've put some time into Star Front: Collision, and as a guy who had spent a healthy chunk of high school playing StarCraft, it was a great addition to my PlayBook.

Best Buy Canada drops BlackBerry PlayBook to $299

Not one to be left out, Best Buy Canada has now dropped the price of the BlackBerry PlayBook like their US and Mexican counterparts. As it stands now, you can pick up a 16GB, 32GB, or 64GB PlayBook for $299, which matches the pricing that we've seen popping up all over, including straight from RIM. Thanks for the tip aphelion_blue!

Of course, many people have been left scratching their heads at the pricing, wondering why anyone would buy a 16GB PlayBook for the same price as they could get a 64GB. Well, the answer is pretty obvious if you think about it. They wouldn't, and that's what RIM wants to happen. When the PlayBook was released, the 64GB was priced at $699 and it seems that most people weren't willing to shell out that much for a tablet that they weren't 100% sure would be right for them. The 16GB PlayBook at $499 was still a bit expensive, but more likely to sell, and add to that all the 16GB PlayBooks RIM has given away through the developer program and at DevCon and BlackBerry World, and it's clear that RIM is likely sitting on a fairly large pile of 64GB tablets. What better way to get rid of them than to make the choice for the customer by offering the larger capacity tablet for the same price as the smaller?

BlackBerry PlayBook sale Walmart

*Update 2: Not sure what's going on with the Walmart pricing. The site is now saying 32GB is $398 and 64GB is $498, so I am guessing the current $298 pricing is for the 16GB which people are reporting is out of stock.*

*Update: Looks like they've sold out of 16GB PlayBooks at $198, though there are still 32GB and 64GB available for $298 and $398. Who knows, maybe they will get more 16GB in stock soon.*

The list of retailers discounting the BlackBerry PlayBook the past week or two is growing, with the latest addition being US Walmarts. Much like the Canadian Walmarts, they have dropped the price of the 16GB PlayBook to $198. They mention a bundle offer on the website as well, which you can find details about at the link below. Basically they want you to add on some discounted accessories when you purchase the tablet. Except, we know you want to buy your PlayBook accessories from ShopCrackBerry. ;) Thanks to everyone that sent this in!
