We've already had a chance to look at one run through of the BlackBerry PlayBook demo from the Rogers Tab Life event but now, we get the full monty from the event. Rogers Redboard, the official Rogers Wireless blog has posted the complete 17:40 demo and interview with Research In Motions David Neale, Vice President of Special Projects that offers some more insight to the development of the BlackBerry PlayBook itself, it's target audience and how Research In Motion feels about the device. If you missed it the first time around, this will be the better version to watch.

As we mentioned previously, the Rogers TabLife event was held today in Toronto. A lot of folks were on hand to film the event and now, some of that footage is making its way across the web. The above video shows off the BlackBerry PlayBook demo given by David Neale, Vice President of Special Projects at Research In Motion.

While the video itself is really just more of what we've seen previously it does provide some finer details. In the video, you get a brief look at some of the specs of the BlackBerry PlayBook more specifically, the processor running on the device. As noted in our forums, the BlackBerry PlayBook appears to be running that oft rumored TI OMAP 4440 processor which makes the BlackBerry PlayBook a pretty powerful device. Thanks Dave!

Today in Toronto, Rogers is hosting their half-day, TabLifeTO conference to showcase how tablets are changing people’s lives. Be it in how they work, how they play or just simply how they live in general. Having brought in many guest speakers from various companies, Research In Motion's David Neale, Vice President of Special Projects is among them to speak about the BlackBerry PlayBook. Some interesting news has already come out of the Rogers TabLifeTO event though for us BlackBerry fans. In what is almost a follow up to our CrackBerry Podcast conversation regarding how the BlackBerry PlayBook will be sold, Rogers has confirmed that starting early next year they will be adding the BlackBerry PlayBook to their already existing line of tablets. Pretty awesome!

Rogers BlackBerry Bold 9780

The BlackBerry Bold 9780 is slowly making it's way through Canadian carriers. If you're a Rogers customer you can now head on over to the Rogers website and place your order for the BlackBerry Bold 9780. One thing to note though is that Rogers doesn't seem to be feeling any pressure as of yet from TELUS regarding their pricing. The TELUS version will only set you back $99 while the Rogers version will cost you $149.99 both on 3-year contracts. However, if contracts aren't your thing both carriers have the device available for $499 sans contract.

BlackBerry Bold 9780

If you live in Canada and have been waiting for the BlackBerry Bold 9780 to arrive it might be now getting a little frustrating. While the device has already been officially announced, the rumored launch dates thus far have not really come through with delays having already been confirmed.

Newest rumor? November 9th will be launch day across Bell, Rogers, Virgin Mobile and possibly even TELUS. One thing that seems pretty much a lock though is the pricing according to Best Buy and the Rogers Q4 roadmap. Each carrier, with the exception of TELUS was featured in the above ad as listing the device for $149.99 on a new 3-year contract.

BlackBerry Bold 9780

With the official announcement from Research In Motion of the BlackBerry Bold 9780's existence comes the existence of the dummy devices that have been sent out to retailers. While Rogers has already indeed stepped up to the plate and confirmed they will be releasing the device, they forgot to include an actual date or pricing. In any event, we know from history that once dummy devices arrive launch typically follows shortly after. Pricing is of course still unknown but, we don't expect it to be any more then $150 on a new 3 yr contract.

Rogers UMA

Some Rogers customers may have known this was coming considering previously leaked OS' opened up the ability on the devices but now, we have the information coming to us in a semi official form. Rogers, will soon be pushing a software update out for the BlackBerry Bold 9700 and BlackBerry Curve 3G that will enable UMA access on both of those devices. With UMA now being enabled, both devices will work for WiFi calling provided you have the proper TalkSpot plan from Rogers. Pretty cool but, one has to wonder why the change of heart?

best buy torch

As all the major carriers in Canada get set to release the BlackBerry Torch on September 24th, Best Buy is wasting no time in letting customers know they can be among the first to put the device in their hands. The pre ordering page has now gone up on the website, although you do still need to visit a Best Buy Mobile location to process the preorder. Oh ya, bring $50 with you as well as that's the preorder cost.

BlackBerry Curve 3G Review

9300 review

The BlackBerry Curve 3G is the next iteration of one of Research In Motions top selling devices. The latest in the Curve series brings 3G to the GSM side and also boasts its BlackBerry 6 readiness despite having been launched with BlackBerry OS 5 preloaded.

While many BlackBerry users have moved onto a Bold 9700, Bold 9650, Torch or even a Storm series device the Curve series still remains a top seller for Research In Motion and the latest revamp does that particular product line justice.

So no, it's not going to be a device for the hardcore BlackBerry user that needs the latest & greatest but it serves well to those who need a nice, functional and cost effective BlackBerry. It certainly cries out to those out there who may still be using a feature phone and are looking to make the jump to an easy to use smartphone. Read on for the full review after the break.

Unboxing videos. Love em or hate em, you know we gotta do them! The BlackBerry Curve 3G is available on Rogers now, and coming to other carriers soon, so it's time to tear open the box and see what's inside. The BlackBerry Curve 3G is RIM's entry level smartphone, so while it gets decent internals (the same 624MHZ processor that's in the Pearl 3G and Bold 9700), it skimps on other hardware - the low resolution 320 by 240 display is the same as the old Curve 8300 / 8800 series devices used to have and the camera is 2 megapixels without a flash (note, in the video I accidentally say that video recording resolution is the same as the Pearl 3G's thanks to the update to the chipset, but it's not... vid recording on the Curve 3G is still a lowly 320x240).

For more information on the BlackBerry Curve 3G, read Bla1ze's BlackBery Curve 3G Review.

Rogers Display

Rogers customers can take joy in this somewhat. Seems kiosk displays for the BlackBerry Torch 9800 have started to arrive in some locations. The only weird thing about this is, they're showing up without any BlackBerry Torch 9800's attached to them. BlackBerry Bold 9700 and BlackBerry Pearl 3G's are seated comfortably but, no BlackBerry Torch 9800.

Facts tell us that Rogers will be having the device in the coming weeks, rumors tell us that Rogers will be all set to launch the device sometime in September and also suggest a white version arriving as well. Which, I'm sure will make Kevin quite happy if that one pans out. Anyone on Rogers gonna be grabbing one?

*NOTE* Yes, we're aware it could also be for the 9300 as well. But, given that stores already have the 9300 in stock it's also viable it COULD be for the BlackBerry Torch 9800. Time will tell.

My Account update

Today, I wanted to check out my account balances, to see if my payment for my Rogers Wireless account went through. To check my account, I quickly use the Rogers Wireless My Account app I recently reviewed. It’s faster than using my BlackBerry browser and less frustrating than waiting in the phone support queue. Before I was able to check out my balance, I was greeted with an update notification. Version 1.0.1 (previously 1.0.0.76) brings more options to the table. A new tab, labeled “services” is not available. Rogers wireless customers now have the option to add and manage services straight from your BlackBerry. I would assume that this menu would be different for each customer.

When I accessed it, I was able to manage my Extreme Text Messaging service (which I forgot I had). I could manage items such as; personal signature, distribution lists, auto-replies, messaging forwarding and text blocker. Another section enabled me to look at new services such as Rogers My5 or Ringbacks; I could read the product description, check out various packages and view the FAQ. If Rogers Wireless keeps going in this direction, this will reduce the workload of their call center agents, perhaps allowing them to focus on getting me an amazing deal on an upgrade! *cough* Torch *cough*

If you want to make use of the application, access the icon on your home screen or download it from the Rogers My Account page in your bookmarks.

Rogers Wireless My Account

Quick Review: Rogers Wireless My Account app for BlackBerry
I’ve noticed that a lot of us tend to grumble about what our carriers decide to load onto our BlackBerrys for us. Some users (and the carriers) see these apps as a convenience, while others see them as a nuisance. Once in a while, new ones pop up out of nowhere as well. A lot of people spend their first moments, with a new or updated BlackBerry, deleting what they would consider a “waste of memory”; you can typically see this in posts that show you how to maximize your memory. I can admit I tend to remove the so-called clutter on my own BlackBerry. Then I took a look at one add-on my carrier, Rogers Wireless, has available; My Account.

This application is one of those that you may take for granted without even looking at it, but it is actually worth a shot. My Account is designed to give you a better look at your Rogers Wireless account, without having to call in to customer service or grab your computer. Let’s see how much my bill is going to set me back.

Rogers Curve 3G

*UPDATE - Looks like grey and violet will be the colors*

Information regarding the BlackBerry Curve 9300 has been in excess today. The latest piece of information to come to us via the CrackBerry tips hotline is that Rogers will be releasing the device as well Q3. While clearly, from the Bell post today the BlackBerry Curve 9300 will not be an exclusive to any one carrier, carriers do have their own way of requesting a sort of exclusivity when it comes to device color choice.

This came from a recent q3 2010 training at Rogers... it appears bb 9300 is confirmed for Q3 in exclusive color.

Not a whole lot of detail there of course but, it's still nice to know Rogers will be adding the device to their line up. I'm sure it's one of many to come in the next months. Sadly, this piece of information leaves me to wonder what color exactly? Red, purple, white? Guess we'll just have to hold out for more information there. Thanks Mike!

Another price drop for the BlackBerry Bold 9700 on Rogers?!?

It wasn't all that long ago that we let you all know about the recent price drop to $99.99 for the BlackBerry Bold 9700 on Rogers. Seems as though we may be seeing another as well. A few folks have sent us emails and pics, letting us know that some Rogers locations are now showing the device at $0 with a new 3 year contract (Although, it could be individual dealers sale price). I always enjoy a little speculation when devices see price drops so, could this just be an everyday sale? Or are they maybe looking to push some inventory for a soon to be released device? Let us know in the comments what you all think. Thanks Keith for the image.
