“City thugs and drug lords are no match in 9mm HD for the BlackBerry PlayBook”

9mm HD for the BlackBerry PlayBook

Picture yourself as an inner city cop, but you’re no normal cop, you aren’t afraid to get your hands dirty and bend the laws to get things done your way. Gameloft has launched yet another title on the BlackBerry PlayBook called 9mm HD. In 9mm HD, you play a cop named John "Loose" Kannon, and with a small arsenal of guns attempt to clean up the streets of the drug lords and other city crime. Angry Birds Space

Though just released for the BlackBerry PlayBook a little over 2 weeks ago, Angry Birds Space has already received an update. Version 1.1 adds a new level called Fry Me To the Moon which will be a welcome addition for those of us that have already played through the first 2 levels. This update also includes a couple of minor changes to the layout of the menu, namely rearranging the planets and unveiling a bit more of the teaser image marked "Coming Soon".

Rumor has it that maybe the Simpsons will somehow tie into a new Angry Birds game, and we can't help but think of Homer when we see that pink frosted donut poking out of the brown wrapper in that teaser image. What do you guys think? Coincidence, or a fairly obvious hint? Let us know in the comments below, and if you don't already have Angry Birds Space on your PlayBook, you can grab it at the link below for just $2.99. Thanks to everyone that sent this in!

Angry Birds Seasons updated to 2.3

Today Rovio has updated Angry Birds Seasons to version 2.3. The new version brings the levels up to par with the other platforms which include Cherry Blossom, Year of the Dragon, Wreck the Halls, Ham’o’ween and many others. The download should be available in BlackBerry App World, but if not remember it can take up to 24 hours to go across all the servers. If you have not downloaded this version, or any of the Angry Birds games, I suggest doing so. They’re quite addictive.

Oregon Trail

Gameloft is a super popular developer of games for all platforms, including the BlackBerry PlayBook. They have announced that they will be bringing not one or two of their top games to BlackBerry 10 devices, but in fact 11 titles will be available either at launch or soon after.

We are happy to state that with a very organized developer website, and effective debugging tools, the resources provided to us have enabled us to work quickly and efficiently. Thus, as we are set to optimize 11 new titles from Gameloft covering a variety of genres ranging from hardcore to casual, while also boasting the distinctive social integration of Scoreloop and BlackBerry Messenger.

The games are set to be integrated with BlackBerry Messenger and support Scoreloop social gaming tools and multiplayer functions. It's a great thing to see some of the most successful names in mobile gaming committing to BlackBerry 10.  I personally can't wait to play some Oregon Trail and N.O.V.A. 3! Smash Cops for the BlackBerry PlayBook

Just this afternoon we we heard that a ton of hot new games were coming to the BlackBerry PlayBook, one of which was Smash Cops from Union. There was a lot of speculation about just when we'd see these games, and lo and behold here is one of them in App World now. Smash Cops is a challenging pursuit game where you drive a police car after runaway bad guys, while avoiding pedestrians, civilian traffic, and other obstacles. Choose from any of 4 mini-games: smash a load of cars illegally parked in a car park, weave through a course laid out by cones, and dodge traffic on a highway and collect evidence throughout the city.

Smash Cops uses a different style of control than you normally find in a car/driving type game. Instead of steering by tilting your device or pressing on either side of the screen, you actually place your finger behind the car to steer. It takes a bit of getting used to but it does work well. The graphics are definitely high quality and with different attack and escape routes spread over 20 missions and 5 vehicles you're sure to play this one for some time to come. You can grab Smash Cops for $4.99 at the link below.

Snowboarding is probably one of the most insane winter sports you can find. Just think about boarding, you barrel down a hill at insane speeds as you dodge people and trees, which is insane -- but those three things are why I love it. As the winter months have come to an end I’m looking for other ways to fill the void. Thanks to a new PlayBook developer Golden Hammer Software I now have something. Today we’re taking a close look at a new game for the BlackBerry PlayBook called Big Mountain Snowboarding, a game that provides you with the thrill of snowboarding on your PlayBook.

Features

  • 12 slopes to challenge your boarding skills
  • 1,000-foot cliffs
  • 3D environments
  • Addictive gameplay
  • Accelerometer support

While the game has some good graphics and utilizes the power of the tablet we all love, the story about the developers is equally interesting. The 2-man development team of Big Mountain Snowboarding are no stranger to mobile gaming world. They first started developing with Android and iOS, where this game reached a staggering download number of 1.5 million. Quite impressive, and there’s even better news. These guys are truly excited to be on the BlackBerry platform and are looking forward to bringing more of their games onto the PlayBook, and one would assume BlackBerry 10. Big Mountain Snowboarding is available in BlackBerry App World and is currently set at 3.99, well worth it I might add.

Burn the City

Every few days my youngest brings me my PlayBook and asks me to find her a new game. We spend quite a bit of time searching through App World and yesterday, I found a gem called Burn the City by Union. We've covered their Super Crossfire HD and Air Attack here on the blogs and both great games. Similar to Angry Farm and Angry Birds, the objective is to create destruction on a massive scale by flinging fireballs at entire cities. Burn the City, while not as fast paced as the other two, is a great addition to your PlayBook. Keep reading for all the details!

Angry Birds Space Hero

Just a month after Rovio launched Angry Birds Space for iOS and Android they are treating us to the version built for the BlackBerry PlayBook. Space is the 4th addition to the Angry Birds series, and while the other three have similar gameplay, Space is the first one to deviate from the norm and add in the concept of zero gravity. Will you defeat the pigs or will gravity get you first? Read our full review to see if Angry Birds Space is everything it's cracked up to be.

Where's Wally Now

Remember trying to find that distinctive striped red and white sweater clad character in those books from your childhood? Well now you can search for him on your BlackBerry! Gameloft has released a version called Where's Wally Now that is very similar to the Where's Waldo books and games we had when we were younger. Follow Wally through the past and explore the future through entertaining search and find levels.

Features

  • Quick Play Mode
  • Adventure
  • Mini Games
  • Bonus Items

This is a great time waster when sitting on the train or waiting in line and at only $1.99, you aren't breaking the bank. The graphics are nice but it can be a bit hard to see some of the items you're searching for on the 9930's screen size. This is much better on the larger screen devices. I found the sound a bit distracting but you do have the option to turn it off. Where's Wally Now is available in App World for most BlackBerry devices running OS 4.5 or higher.

Now, I know that the handheld Rubik's Cube game isn’t all the rage anymore, but I remember getting quite angry at that stupid cube because I wasn’t able to get the colors to line up. Now we have a touch screen to get angry at. If you’re looking for an updated alternative to the Rubix Cube you are in luck as Dust Bit Games has brought their interpretation of the popular game to the BlackBerry PlayBook. Cubyrinth is a 3D cube based game for the PlayBook that has a twist, literally. While you rotate the 3D cube you also need to align the path to allow the orb to make its way back to the rotating cube. The kicker, the cube has thousands of options to get that orb back home and while it starts off easy it moves along quite fast and you’ll be cursing at your PlayBook in no time.

To spice things up, some Cubyrinths are protected by Turrets and/or Triones. Turrets are heavy armored stationary security systems, which will destroy the prototype on line of sight. But even more dangerous are the mobile security units, called Triones. Those fast bots will hunt the prototype as soon as they are able to find a way.

So not only are you expected to get the orb from one place to another at some stages in the game you are required to dodge turrets and triones. If you’re reading this you may be starting to think that this game is a little over your head. Trust me you’ll power through it, it’ll just take some extra thinking at times. Cubyrinth is available in BlackBerry App World for $2.99.

Ode to Gravity for the BlackBerry PlayBook

The Games folder on my BlackBerry PlayBook is continuingly growing as I discover new games in App World or by word of mouth or via our own CrackBerry website. The newest game added to my collection is Ode to Gravity. The aim of the game is to gather the same coloured blocks together in order to remove them. It sounds a lot harder than you think. Continue after the break to read the full review.

ToFu2

I first fell in love with the Tofu game by HotGen Limited back in October of last year. Now with the release of Tofu 2, we get 100 new levels and some other really fun features.

My kids and I fought over my PlayBook once I introduced them to Tofu. We’ve all had some grand times slinging that little piece of curd all over the place. Since beating the game we’ve all been a little sad. Unlike most games where the developer release an update with new levels, ToFu 2 is a game itself. With the release of this sequel (which I only discovered by accident) and the great additions, my family and I are all happily flinging Tofu on a daily basis.

The Moron Challenge

Going back in time a few months, we introduced a BlackBerry PlayBook game called The Moron Challenge. Like a Transformer, the game is more than meets the eye. While it may seem some levels are blatantly obvious, you may find yourself getting stuck on the over 120 steps it takes to traverse the accomplishments from Moron to Genius. If that`s not enough, the timer will prevent you from taking too much time on each puzzle. Of course, we looked at version 1.0.1 when we first talked about it. Since then, The Moron Challenge was updated to version 3.0 with new, trickier challenges, including famous quotes and Holiday season themed brain teasers. The Moron Challenge has three flavours that can be found; a free version or the $1.99 HD version for the BlackBerry PlayBook and a BlackBerry smartphone version for $0.99.

Recently, aBs jMicro SRL informed us that they hit their benchmark of 50 000 downloads. While congratulations are in order, they are not stopping there. Without skipping a beat, they`ve released the Famous Quotes level to their smartphone version as a free update. Only a moron would skip out on taking on new challenges.

Contest: We have 50 copies of The Moron Challenge for BlackBerry smartphones to giveaway. All you have to is leave a comment in the post to be entered. Contest ends Sunday, April 8th 2012, at Midnight PST.
