Being a first responder I encounter some of the most intense environments on a daily basis. I always expect the most elite equipment to help perform my job while keeping me as safe as possible. I expect the same for my device, as it's a vital tool in my line of work. The OtterBox Commuter Series case for the BlackBerry Bold 9930 / 9900 provides three layers of protection. The first layer is an outer polycarbonate shell to protect the Bold from drops.  The second layer is constructed of durable silicone adding bump and shock protection. Also an optional screen protector, add the third layer and the Bold is now encased in superior protection from anything it may encounter.

I have been carrying my Bold 9930 in this case for a little over a month and I must say it's awesome. I have dropped it countless times, tossed it in a gear bag for travel and it's even taken the trip inside some places where some phones should not be operational. Though the standard Commuter case does not come with a holster, (OtterBox, PLEASE make one!!!) we adapt and overcome. In the video you will see the device fits perfectly in a Bold 9000 holster -- the best combo! Now while keeping the sleekness of the Bold form factor, the Commuter adds no bulk at all, giving some of the best protection in cases out there. Though there are some minor drawbacks using the case, it should be sufficient for any consumer looking for ultimate protection. I've been a fan of OtterBox Cases ever since I got my first one for my old BlackBerry 8700, and over the years I've always had really solid experiences with their cases. That said, I have sort of mixed feelings on the Commuter Case for the Torch (note - I really love my Commuter for my Bold 9700/9780). On the pro side, it offers a great amount of protection and doesn't add too much bulk to the phone. Looking at the negatives, I find it makes the Torch a bit slippery to hold, the rubber buttons at times can behave a little awkwardly, and the long-term durability isn't quite to the same level as it is on OtterBox cases for other devices - specifically you may find with time the top piece that covers the slider portion of the Torch will want to come off easier than it should (this problem can affect most Torch cases that have a hard plastic shell - sliders make case design/durability tricky!). With OtterBox cases being on the more expensive end of the hard case spectrum, you may also want to check out the Innocase Surface and Mobi Products Hard Shell for the Torch. You can almost pick up three Mobi Products cases for the retail cost of one OtterBox, so it's something to think about. Check out the video review above for more details. One of the most popular case/skin options for the BlackBerry Bold 9780 and 9700 is the OtterBox Commuter Series. And there's good reason for this. The Commuter Series case is rugged and durable and provides a ton of protection for the Bold 9780 and/or 9700, yet still feels good in the hand. While it does add a little bulk to the phone, the comfort and feel for everyday use is still there. It's really hard to say anything bad about this case for the 9780/9700.

The biggest downfall for people who use the the Commuter Series case on their Bold 9780 or Bold 9700 is that there is no good leather holster option for the phone. With the Commuter case installed, the phone becomes too big for the standard Bold 9780/9700 leather holster or pouch, which a lot of people love to use. However, that's not actually the case!
