Among CrackBerry readers, I think it's safe to say we all have something we could say that we love about BlackBerry. Often times we read in the CrackBerry forums of users checking out other platforms available to them be it iPhone, Android or even webOS. Some of those users decide the other platforms are better. Some decide that BlackBerry is better and finally, others decide they want their cake and to be able to eat it too by opting to make use of both BlackBerry and whatever other platform they have chosen. The question here is simple, do you use other platforms or is BlackBerry your only device of choosing?  Whether you use only BlackBerry or have decided to use another platform, let us know in the comments why you have chosen whatever path you have.

BlackBerry OS Running On A Nokia 5700?

BlackBerry OS Running On A Nokia 5700?

I..really don't know what to say about this. It appears as though the above Nokia 5700 has been frankenstiened to run a port of the BlackBerry OS, BlackBerry 8220 OS more specifically. Maxpda is the source of this unruly behaviour and as much as I am appalled, I find myself unable to stop looking at it. Well, best I can say is if it's a fake, they sure did the video of it in action quite well.

Nokia Smartphones Review - Smartphone Round Robin

Talk about procrastination. My final Nokia review for the Smartphone Round Robin should have been up last Friday, but here it is a week late. Everytime I sat down to start writing it, I always managed to find a distraction compelling enough to pull me away. This one is definitely tough for me to write. For every other platform I've looked at over the past 6+ weeks that the Round Robin has been on, it has never been difficult for me to find something to say; in fact, I have had the problem of always having too much to say (apologies for some of those lonnnng articles). But writing is easy when you have strong opinions and I definitely had my viewpoints on the Droid, iPhone, Palm's WebOS and even Windows Phones - both for specific devices looked at and the platforms and where they fit into the Smartphone Hierarchy of Needs and the greater smartphone market.

Coming into the event, Nokia was the platform I knew least about. Though Nokia sells oodles of handsets around the globe, in the North American market their smartphone penetration is still pretty non-existent. Being unfamiliar with the devices, I had no preconceived notions. And after getting to know the devices and spend some time on them, I definitely leave the Round Robin with a better appreciation for what Nokia has done to date with their smartphones, but I'm still really sort of lost as to where they fit into the current landscape (especially in NA) and can't help but wonder what they're going to have to do in order to get some sort of piece of consumer mindshare and momentum. Read on for more Nokia thoughts!

CrackBerry Goes Nokia

Week #5 in the Smartphone Round Robin is here, the last week of trying smartphones outside of BlackBerry, and it has me on two Nokia devices, the N97 and N900. Picking up these phones, I can honestly admit I KNOW NOTHING ABOUT NOKIA SMARTPHONES. Nokia seems to take a back seat in the North American marke, but on a worldwide scale they're HUGGGE. I didn't know what to expect at all when I sat down with Matt Miller of NokiaExperts.com, but quickly learned that Nokia's smartphone offering is actually pretty intense. Who would have thought they've had a Webkit-based browser for years (before Apple's Mobile Safari browser even) or that 5 megapixel cameras with double LED flashes that take pretty frick'n amazing pictures are sort of a standard thing. If you've got ten minutes to klll, check out the video below to get a glimpse into the world of Nokia.

And if you're a Nokia expert or want a chance to win a Nokia smartphone, be sure to chime in on my post over at NokiaExperts.com. Final review coming later this week!

The 2009 Smartphone Round Robin is on in full force. While I'm living on planet Android, our Nokia-using friend Matt Miller of NokiaExperts.com is living the good life on BlackBerry. Be sure to click over and check out his initial BlackBerry hands-on video as he experiences both the Storm2 and Bold 9700. And if you want to give him a hand or some advice (and pick-up a chance to win a new device yourself) to ensure he's making the most out of these fine devices, you can post a reply on his CrackBerry forum thread.
