Wordpress for BlackBerry updates to v1.4.1

Wordpress

Wordpress for BlackBerry got a slight bump in versions last night. The update, which is basically a bug squashing release addresses some minor issues within the previous release. The list is as follows:

  • Fixed empty title issue for those blogs with “Site Title” field set to empty value.
  • Fixed an issue on the comments screen that doesn’t permit editing of comments with weird characters within URL or e-mail field.
  • Introduced a better integration with the VideoPress service and the WordPress.com Space-Upgrade option.
  • Added support for blog shortcut icon.
  • Minor bug fixing.

Again just big fixes but, if you're one who likes to make sure your apps are up to date you can grab this one from BlackBerry App World right now.

WordPress for BlackBerry 1.3 Released

The good folks at WordPress have blessed us all with another update. Anyone who uses WordPress to maintain either a personal or business blog is sure to love the new additions added with the v1.3 release. Having been using the application for a while now, it's been fun to watch it grow and it's turning out to be one the top applications out there for folks looking to do some mobile blogging. New stuff with the v1.3 release include:

  • Option to load more comments, not just the latest 100
  • Ability to load comments by status (all/spam/pendings)
  • You can now edit the comment details (Author Name/E-mail/URL)
  • Option to manually set the video-size when using VideoPress service
  • A much requested formatting toolbar that allows you to bold text for example
  • A new word count feature is shown on the post/page write screen
  • You can now submit bug reports and feedback from within the app
  • Multiple improvement to how Stats are handled
  • Improvements on the photo resizing options and a new jpeg encoder is now being used

This stuff may not mean a whole lot to users out there not interested in WordPress. But for those who rely on it, it is indeed some nice changes to the application. Be sure to update if you've been using WordPress for BlackBerry in the past.

Wordpress For BlackBerry Updated To Version 1.2

If you already have Wordpress installed, chances are you've been notiified of this update. However, just in case you missed it for some reason or are unaware that such an app existed. You can now grab the latest version of Wordpress for BlackBerry from BlackBerry App World or direct from the Wordpress website. Version 1.2 is what you will find available. With version 1.2 you'll find some nice changes to the application as a whole.

  • Ability to show comprehensive site stats for WordPress.com sites and for self-hosted sites running the WP.com stats plugin
  • Ability to add audio recordings to a post/page
  • Ability to post media files that are not tied to post/page
  • Ability to add a signature on posts created from the mobile app
  • “1- click” share to WordPress within the native BlackBerry Browser and File Explorer
  • Improvements on GPS support
  • Redesigned GUI with touch support

The community behind Wordpress is not going to be slowing down anytime, so the application will certainly keep improving as it grows older. These updates are all welcomed changes. You can read the full details of the change log via the Wordpress For BlackBerry website if you head on over there.

Tumblr For BlackBerry Updated To Version 1.0.1

Interesting, not sure how I missed this one but I'm sure I'm not the only one. Seems shortly after the intial release Tumblr rolled out an updated version of their mobile blogging application for BlackBerry. After collecting some feedback, they implemented the following changes:

New:

  • Post menu looks cooler
  • Added a post menu item for quicker posting

Fixed:

  • Fixed login problems reported by some users
  • Network options menu item fixed
  • Fixed an issue where media couldn’t be posted from the SD Card

Now, considering I missed this. My suggestion for the next release would clearly be to enable a method of checking for updates upon start up of the application. Makes sense to me, how about you guys?

WordPress For BlackBerry Updates To v1.1

Wordpress has released their latest update to Wordpress for BlackBerry. Version 1.1 came shortly after the Tumblr announcement we seen yesterday. I guess maybe they fet some pressure from Tumblr. A lot of enhancements came with this release, especially for BlackBerry Storm owners out there that may be making use of the app. A feature breakdown list is as follows:

  • Comment Notifications
  • Geotagging of Posts
  • Improved UI interaction on Touch devices
  • introduction of Touch Gestures: Sliding a finger to the left or right quickly on the Comment screen displays the next or previous comment.
  • Photo Resizing improvements with user defined dimensions
  • New File Browser with thumbnails support
  • Overall enhancements to the speed and stability of the app
  • Additional Language Support: English, Italian, Finnish, French, German and finally, Indonesian and Portuguese

For anyone who makes use of Wordpress as a CMS this app just keeps getting better. If you do run into issues however, you can check out the Wordpress for BlackBerry support forums. Wordpress for BlackBerry is available in BlackBerry App World or via OTA download from the Wordpress site.

BlackBerry Quick Tip: Using Posterous As A Mobile Blogging Platform

Some of you may already have heard of or be using Posterous. For those of you who might not, I'm going to give you a quick run down of what Posterous is, and how it can help you out if you are looking for a way to run a blog or just interact with your social networks from your BlackBerry.

First off, Posterous is as they describe it. Dead simple to use. You just simply fire off one email to a specified address and you are already set to go as they will reply back with a URL that is yours to use. (yourname.posterous.com, after set up or you can use a custom domain name) You instantly have a "blog" set up for you, which you can customize as you see fit. The service allows for interaction with a ton of social networks and already existing platforms such as Twitter, Flickr, Wordpress, typepad and many more which allows you to "auto post" anything you send to Posterous to any of those places. Minimal set up required and you have a complete mobile blogging platform to work off of.

Have a pic you want to share on Twitter? Send it to Posterous using the email on your BlackBerry to the address Posterous gives you and it's instantly posted to your Posterous account and Twitter account at the same time. Posterous will accept just about anything you send at it and know what to do with it. Videos, Music and even picture galleries are all set up for you automatically just by email alone or with an app such as vPost. If running a personal blog or sharing stuff on the go is something you are looking for, you'll want to check Posterous out for sure.

WordPress For BlackBerry Updated To v0.9.0.157

While we all were anxiously awaiting the new BlackBerry Messenger release yesterday, the good folks at Automattic were busy releasing an update as well. This update bumps their Wordpress for BlackBerry application up to version 0.9.157 and addresses a lot of users concerns. Being that the application is still considered to be a beta, Wordpress users should be pleased with the progress. New feature set includes:

Updated UI Changes:

  • Gravatar support
  • Ability to open the URL of the author into the BB browser
  • A reply to comment feature, so you can moderate and respond all from the mobile device.

On the Post and Page screens

  • The ability to open the comment list for a specific post
  • Support for the post excerpt field
  • Support for custom fields

Internationalization:

  • Added French support
  • Added Italian support

Users who already have the application can update from within the app, and for those of you who may have a Wordpress powered blog and are not using this Wordpress for BlackBerry - why not?
