Grooveshark

Back in the day, I used to be a fan of the Grooveshark streaming music service. They even had a beautiful BlackBerry app to go along with it, and I even signed up for their premium offerings but it got to a point where Grooveshark and I were no longer friends. Their beautiful BlackBerry app never got updated and they ignored all my mentions about it and alas, I moved onto Rdio who is not only glad to take my money but in return, also provide me with an awesome Blackberry, Android and iOS app for all my streaming music needs. They have not yet given me a PlayBook app but their site works when you use Simple Browser from HaTaX and I'm fine with that.

Grooveshark in the meantime, has been working on an HTML5 site for their users and having just now heard about it I figured i would give it a go and see how well it worked. It's in beta now, and they don't appear to have account support built in as of yet so if you're already a Grooveshark user you'll not be able to access anything from your account but no matter -- you can still stream the content, just not access playlists or favorites from your account.

The HTML5 website worked pretty good, not only on BlackBerry smartphones but also the BlackBerry PlayBook. I was able to visit and make use of the site from Bold 9900 and my BlackBerry PlayBook easily and stream any music I searched for on their service. Will I return back to Grooveshark as a user? Not a chance but it's nice to see that the HTML5 site works and I'm sure a lot of folks will make use of it. Check it out for yourself, hit the link below!

Grooveshark For BlackBerry Updated To v1.0.7

Grooveshark, the premium streaming music application we looked at previously has rolled out an update recently. Sadly, no changelog was issued with the release but users opening up the application were indeed, prompted to download what is now v1.0.7. Seems a lot of T-Mobile users were having issues with getting the application to work previously, so maybe you'll want to give this version a shot to see if it works better. Grooveshark is available for $3/mnth through their VIP program which allows for unlimited streaming and caching of music played for offline usage.

Grooveshark

Grooveshark is a music streaming application that compares to Pandora and Slacker, but also differs from them.  Let me start out by saying that Grooveshark is not free if you wish to use on your BlackBerry, it requires a VIP pass that costs $3 per month. That being said, it is worth every penny in my opinion.  The application does have features like radio stations based off of your favorite music, but is not totally centered around it.  You can simply play any song you wish instantly, then search for your next song/album an "add/add all after current song" which really gives you the feeling of total control over your music.  Grooveshark also features multiple custom playlists, favorites, and making songs accessible offline for those places where your service is not so good.  Overall I think Grooveshark is a great app that sets itself apart from the rest with its song and album playing features.  It  is available for all BlackBerry's running OS 4.2.1 and requires a 3G/Wi-Fi connection to stream/cache music.  As an added bonus Groveshark is available in Canada and (from what I can tell) most countries as well. You can download directly to your device from grooveshark.com. If you give it a try, be sure to share your thoughts in the comments.
