Google Voice for BlackBerry

The Google Voice app for BlackBerry has been updated version 0.2.0.2 (what a fun version number!). An update for the app has been long overdue, and this version includes an option to check your balance, faster dialing and banner notifications. I've been hoping that all of the Google apps for BlackBerry (Google Voice, Gmail app etc.) would step it up at some point and flow better on BlackBerry, but it really doesn't look like that will happen anytime soon. If you're a Google Voice user head to the link below from your device to download.

What's on a CrackBerry BlackBerry?

What's on a CrackBerry BlackBerry?

We all know that CrackBerry is the source of information for BlackBerry applications. There are so many out there. On CrackBerry, you can easily read up on new and updated apps, in depth reviews and even pick up applications from the CrackBerry App Store. While we do get to take a look at some incredibly interesting applications, one thing I get asked is, “What do you use?” My BlackBerry has seen plenty of applications cross its home screen. Some have stayed as they have been quite beneficial. Others, though they could be useful, simply didn’t work specifically for me. It’s not necessarily because they weren’t decent applications, but because of both space and need.

So with access to all of these applications, which ones made the cut? Which apps have found a home on our BlackBerrys? What’s on a CrackBerry BlackBerry? With a fondness for all apps on our devices, I asked the editors and writers what their top 3 installed apps were and why. Check out the responses after the jump.

Google Voice for BlackBerry  Google Voice for BlackBerry

Ever since I started using Google Voice I've been a big fan. From the great voicemail services to the ability to send an SMS from the web, it has served me very well. I change phones fairly often, so having one number available to each of them is extremely convenient. Although the Google Voice app for BlackBerry isn't the greatest, it does get the job done. As we've said before it has its pros and cons, but losing things like MMS may not be favorable for everyone. In any case, if you've been wanting to get in on the Google Voice fun and you live in the US, you no longer need an invite to do so. Just head over to voice.google.com to sign up and then download the BlackBerry app to put your new number to good use.

Google Voice App

The Google Voice app has been updated to version 0.1.7. No major overhaul in this release, and no changelog means most likely just some minor bug fixes. I'm still holding out for a totally revamped Google Voice App (and some addition to Google Voice itself) that will allow for MMS and some other much needed features. It seems like Google likes to take their sweet time doing anything grand to their BlackBerry Apps, so hopefully down the road we'll see some more goodies come with the updates. Google Voice App

A few months back we posted some quick tips for using Google Voice. Today we're going to look at the app itself - how it works and just what it does. We'll check out how Google Voice can make your life easier, and what the app is still lacking. From having a unified phone number to being able to access all of your account details, messages and voicemails all from one easy place. Granted you still need to be invited to use Google Voice, but it seems like invites are floating around all over and are fairly easy to come by. So if you are a first time user or a seasoned Google Voice vet, hit the jump for a look at the app and see what makes it tick.

For years I stuck with the mobile number I was issued way back in 1996 when I purchased my first cell phone. I never thought of switching carriers, and I was happy to know that everyone that needed to contact me could do so easily. About a year ago after my BlackBerry addiction started to overtake me full-time, I realized that having a CDMA carrier number that wasn't easily portable wasn't the best thing. I thought about it for a while, and as the idea of carting around multiple devices all day didn't appeal to me, I decided to finally give up my roots and give Google Voice a shot. I had registered with the service ages ago, but left the number untouched for months. Now was the time to make it mine and spread my new number to the few people that actually call me.
