Yahoo, Windows Live and Google Talk IM clients all updated to v2.5.108

If you're fond of using either Yahoo Messenger, Windows Live Messenger or Google Talk on your BlackBerry device you'll want to hit BlackBerry App World and check for updates. RIM has uploaded new versions of all three, pushing them to v2.5.108. What version you have installed now will of course depend on what OS you're running and whether or not you've updated them previously but either way -- the latest and greatest are available now so get to it.

Native IM apps

If you're a Google Talk, Windows Live Messenger, or Yahoo Messenger user, you'll be happy to learn that the BlackBerry applications for these apps have been updated in App World, and now sit at v2.5.84. Interesting to note, the version of these apps that was pulled from the leaked BlackBerry OS 7.0.0.176 was v2.5.85, just a hair above this official release. As usual, no word on what the changes are with this update, so if you notice anything new, be sure to let us know!

Native IM apps

Earlier today OS 7.0.0.176 leaked for the unreleased BlackBerry Bold 9900. While this OS as a whole isn't useful for, well, anyone at this point, there are people out there that can dissect an OS and get useful bits out of it. As a result, we now have leaked versions of some popular IM apps, namely Google Talk, Windows Live Messenger, and Yahoo Messenger. They are all v2.5.85, and only tested on BB6+. Here's the deal… if you decide to try these out, backup your device first. Install these at your own risk, and if something goes wrong, don't blame us. With that said, let us know how they work for you in the comments below or in the forums! Thanks for posting this in the forums lyricidal!

CrackBerry IM clients

The native BlackBerry IM clients got another round of updates earlier this week. Google Talk, AIM, Yahoo!, MSN Messenger and ICQ all now sit at version 2.5.63. These were all tested in the Beta Zone for a few weeks so should be good to go all around with some minor updates and even a new icon or two. Nothing major from what I can tell, but an update is an update. You can grab all the latest from BlackBerry App World.

Review of Google Talk for BlackBerry Smartphones

[ youtube video link for mobile viewing ]

With the popularity of Google Mail on BlackBerries, it comes as no surprise that Google would introduce an instant messaging service to the BlackBerry. Since instant messaging isn't anything new for BlackBerry, and the overly popular BlackBerry Messenger is prevalent among users, Google makes its own attempt with Google Talk. The application isn't really anything more than a simple instant messenger, but it has a very interesting Google-esque style. With all the available platforms on the market (Blackberry, Andriod, Apple, Win Mo, etc.), many applications have tried to bridge the messaging gap. Google Talk successfully allows users to chat to their Gmail friends across multiple platforms in a simple, but all too recognizable, style.
