CB Launcher CB Launcher

For those of you rocking our CB Launcher app, you'll want to know that Fabian just updated it to version 2.0.9 which brings with it some of the recent CrackBerry forum changes we implemented recently, including the addition of our PlayBook and BlackBerry 7 forums and re-location/re-labeling of the Bold 9930/9900 forum.

As for all of you who may not be using the app, the CB Launcher is a really basic utility that helps you get from your BlackBerry Smartphone's homescreen to the location you want to endup on CrackBerry.com very quickly. Think of it as a shortcut/launcher on steroids. It allows you to do some of the navigation on your device before launching the web browser and going to the destination page. At a total cost of Zero dollars, it's a no brainer to download and install. Grab it at the links below.

Rookie Rocket by Fabian Heuwieser

Fabian Heuwieser has brought us some excellent and essential apps over the past few years. He has now ventured into the game genre, and his first release is called RookieRocket. In this game you have to steer a rocket through obstacles and collect stars. When you touch an obstacle, it pushes you down unless you can pass it. By collecting the normal stars, the speed does not increase, if you miss a normal star, the speed increases. When you get too fast, collect slow-down stars. And then there are tricky little stars that flip left-right, so when you move left your rocket goes right! The stars also give you points when you collect them. Check out the video of Rookie Rocket in action after the break.

Both touch screen and non-touch screen devices are supported, and when playing on your Torch or Storm you can use the touch screen to move your rocket. Within the game you have settings for slow or fast and to invite a friend to challenge your score. Statistics are also available such as total time spent playing and high score. Rookie Rocket is fun for kids and adults alike, and will surely be on your list of most played games. You can pick this game up for just $.99 in the CrackBerry store or in BlackBerry App World for your 8330/50i, 85xx, 89xx, 9000, 91xx, 93xx, 95xx, 96xx, 97xx, and 9800. Fabian is also working on a version for the BlackBerry PlayBook, so if you'd like to be kept up to date future developments be sure to go check out Rookie Rocket on Facebook.

SecondTab for BlackBerry

With the latest BlackBerry 6 software, the WebKit browser brings along tabbed browsing for viewing multiple web pages at once. OS 5.0 users aren't so lucky, but today our friend Fabian released a cool free app that aims to help out a bit. With SecondTab you can now have a second browser window open on your OS 5.0 device to make browsing the web a little bit better. The app is activated from the menu while in the Browser and can be swapped out using the application siwtcher (holding down the menu key). While it doesn't mirror the native browser (ie. providing bookmarks, history etc) SecondTab does allow you to enter a URL and have a separate browser window open. Pretty cool functionality and free is always good. You can download SecondTab from BlackBerry App World from the link below.

CrackBerry Launcher

** Update: Note, right now the App World version and CrackBerry version are the same builds, which feature the trimmed down links (no downloads or app store) that App World required. We'll soon get back up the updated CB version into the CB App store that will have all of the links. Thx for the patience! **

This is exciting! Our CrackBerry Launcher application, built for us by Fabian Heuwieser (thanks Fabian!), has been updated to version 1.93 and is now available in BlackBerry App World! The CB Launcher app places a shortcut on your BlackBerry homescreen, which when clicked on opens a simple app that allows you to jump to specific areas of the m.crackberry.com mobile site.

A few changes had to be made to get the CB Launcher app into App World, like removing our CrackBerry App Store and Downloads links, but it's still super cool to see it make it in there - be sure to give it a download and a nice 5 star rating and positive review and I'm sure we'll see it introduce CrackBerry.com to a new audience of BlackBerry users who may not be as familar with CrackBerry Nation. The updated version also includes updates to keep things current, including links to our new BlackBerry 6, Bold 9650 and Pearl 3G forums.

Now that we've seen the CB Launcher hit App World, we have two goals left to tackle: get this baby featured on the App World featured apps carousel (let's make it happen RIM!) and build out a more fully-featured and integrated application for getting CrackBerry on your BlackBerry. You'll want to stay tuned for that!

TyperLearn for BlackBerry TyperLearn for BlackBerry

So you think you can type? Well, so did I, until I got an email from Fabian with his latest application, TyperLearn. While downloading I was thinking to myself, "I got this, I've been typing on these things for years." Well, wow was I wrong. TyperLearn is a rather simplistic style application with a nice straight forward user interface, but overall it is extremely helpful. After completing lessons you will be presented with your words per minute per lesson as well as your overall average speed for all completed lessons.

Within the application you will find lessons you have to complete, each of them geared towards learning a different part of the keyboard. You will start with the basics, learning your keyboard size, then move on to mastering the left hand, right hand and more which proves to be very helpful. If you are thinking that this application isn't useful to you and that you have already mastered your keyboard, give it a shot and see if you notice the same results after. This is a great way for BlackBerry beginners to easily learn and master the BlackBerry keyboard. TyperLearn is on sale for $4.95 until June 26th.

LaterDude Pro

Fabian let me know that LaterDude Pro is just $1.49 through May 13th. This best-selling app was nominated as Best Utility app in our Best of 2009 awards. LaterDude Pro can help keep you organized and on track by letting you set reminders to call, email or SMS someone. The app will set a reminder in the calendar or task app so you never forget to get back to a contact. A great utility for anyone who has trouble remembering to get back to friends or colleagues. LaterDude Pro sells regularly for @2.95, but you can get it for $1.49 through May 13th. You can also check out LaterDude Pro on Facebook for more.

Later Dude Pro

Fabian has just let us know that his popular application Later Dude Pro has been updated, adding many great new features. If you haven't seen Later Dude Pro before, its an application that allows you to create reminders to call, email, or sms someone back. The application integrates nicely right into the native BlackBerry calendar and/or task application. The updated version includes these key features:

  • Standard length for an event is now 10 minutes
  • Subject of an email can now be set as the subject of the Calendar Event or Task
  • Setting an event from Messages no longer preselects "email" as keyword
  • You can now add custom keywords
  • The day of the week is now displayed with the date in the dialog box when adding an event or task
  • Ability to use standard PIM entry screen to create/edit events or tasks
  • Reminder time set to 1 minute now, does not interfere with any calendar syncs
  • Tell-A-Friend option added to spread the word about Later Dude Pro

Later Dude Pro is on sale for $2.22 until March 28th and available for all devices running OS 4.5 and up.

As Fabian has posted in the CrackBerry forums, you can now get your hands on the latest version which has some newly added features to make Later Dude Pro more robust app. Have a look in the forums and if you want to give Fabian a hand with the testing, be sure to grab the download.

LaterDude

Fabian just let me know that all of his best-selling apps are 35% off through February 28th. The sale includes LaterDude Pro, WallpaperShuffle, VibAndRing, TyperSpeed and more. Fabian does amazing work on all of his apps, and is the man behind the new CrackBerry Launcher and one of my favorite free apps ForceRadioOn. All of the apps are already discounted and you won't need a coupon, so just head to the CrackBerry App Store and buy away.

WallpaperShuffle

Fabian Heuwieser has updated one of his best selling BlackBerry applications to support all OS 5.0 devices. Wallpaper Shuffle as you may remember, was an application first for the BlackBerry Storm and later the BlackBerry Tour that allowed you to swap out your wallpapers at a timed interval. Effectively, ensuring you never get bored of seeing just one wallpaper all the time while having minimal impact on battery life. With the latest update you can now get Wallpaper shuffle on any device that is running os 4.7 and higher. From now until January 25th you can pick it up for only $1.95 in the CrackBerry App Store.

Download the CrackBerry.com Launcher App!

Here's one for all of our loyal CrackBerry readers and members out there... a new and improved CrackBerry.com web launcher! Our pal Fabian Heuwieser whipped up the new launcher as a little holiday gift for CrackBerry Nation. This isn't just a shortcut to the mobile site though - what Fabian built is a BlackBerry app that essentially mimics our entire site navigation. From within the application you can decide exactly where you want to go, and from there click the appropriate link that will open your web browser and take you directly to that page/section on the CrackBerry.com mobile site. It's basic and it works GREAT.

You can download the CrackBerry.com launcher by visiting crackberry.com/getlauncher from either your BlackBerry's web browser or on your computer (and send yourself the download link). This is the first version that has gone public, so if you run into any issues or have any suggestions you can leave them on this CrackBerry Launcher forum thread. Note to BlackBerry Storm owners: Be sure to disable compatiblity mode!

So what are you waiting for? Go download it now and get your CrackBerry on!! Thanks Fabian!

If you follow me on twitter (@crackberrykevin), you may have caught wind of the fact that I'm in Europe right now, hitting up Paris first for a few days and now stuffing my face with pizza in Roma. More articles will be popping up over the next week or so with some of observations I have made in terms of BlackBerry in Europe, so stay tuned for that.

The first BlackBerry highlight of the trip was getting to meet app developer Fabian Heuwiser in person. Now, the video above is not of me interviewing Fabian, but rather our pal Nan Palmero, who met Fabian in Germany on a recent trip for a beer. It just so happened that Fabian was in Paris the same weekend I was, so he ran over and met me at the Galleries Lafeyette late Saturday afternoon at the 1st floor Dom Perignon bar (every mall in the world should have one of these) while Miss CrackBerry continued to shop. We didn't have time to conduct a formal interview, so props to Nan for getting this video done up for BBCool. Watch it above!

Regular readers of CrackBerry.com will be familiar with Fabian's apps, such as ForceRadioOn, LaterDude Pro, TyperSpeed and the historically popular VibandRing. You can check out all of Fabian's apps here. Fabian has been working on a new CrackBerry mobile launcher as well, which we'll be launching here on the blogs next week. Keep it locked to CB to catch it when it drops. Great meeting you Fabian!
