EA PlayBook game sale

If you’re headed to the mall or the grocery store, what’s one of the first things most people do? They look to see what sales are on and when they’re expiring. So why not do the same thing with apps on your mobile devices? RIM has let us know that they currently have a two week sale going on. In partnership with EA and RIM you can now get all the Electronic Arts BlackBerry PlayBook titles for 50% off.

EA Games on sale

With the sale you can expect to save about $3 per title, but be warned the sale ends on May 3rd. I’ve just picked up Monopoly and The Game of Life; the question is which ones are you looking forward to downloading and playing? Let us know in the comments, and make sure if you download Dead Space use headphones and crank up the volume, it gets a little creepy :-).

EA Games BlackBerry PlayBook

Cruising the forums this morning I came across this thread in which forums member lwaysluking spotted some EA titles for the BlackBerry PlayBook on sale in BlackBerry App World. We're not sure just when they went on sale or for how long, so if you're looking to pick any of them up (and you should because they are some great titles) you'll need to act fast. The titles on sale include:

Some pretty good discounts overall on these games, but as stated, if you want them you better get on it -- we're not sure just how long this sale will last!

Need For Speed Shift

Reading through Twitter this morning I saw an interesting tweet that contained a link to download a demo version of Need For Speed Shift for the BlackBerry Bold 99xx. Of course, I downloaded it! While it's just a two lap demo of the game, it does show off the graphics which are smooth and run without a glitch. If you've played Need For Speed on the BlackBerry PlayBook, then the BlackBerry Bold version is just what you'd expect from EA. No official word on pricing or availability at this time, though a non-functioning link within the demo indicated the cost will be $4.99. Your device may have come pre-loaded with a download link for this game, but if not you can grab it at the link below.

Trivial Pursuit Logo

I'm a huge fan of developers bringing old school games to our BlackBerry devices and I was so excited to run across this one in BlackBerry App World. The classic game of Trivial Pursuit has been adapted and brought to our BlackBerry devices by Electronic Arts. Pass ’N Play with friends, customize the length of gameplay in Classic Mode, or race through fast-paced levels and finish first in Pursuit Mode. Loaded with 1000 questions, you're sure to be entertained for a bit. Very nice visual animations and sound effects give it a nice modern touch.

Trivial Pursuit Ultimate Master Edition is available via BlackBerry App World for $3.99 (I'd personally like it to be a bit cheaper but it is what it is) and is compatible with most BlackBerry smartphones.

*Edit - Link fixed for US/Canada version. Other versions are available through App World*

Okay, so that video up there isn't of Tetris on the BlackBerry. It does go to prove, though, that Tetris is one of those rare games, belovéd around the world. It has been played in over 50 languages and more than thirty platforms (plus buildings).

Created in 1984 by Russian scientist Alexey Pajitnov, the game centers around cajiggering* seven differently-shaped "tetraminos" so that they slot into place and form an unbroken line of blocks. You probably knew that. What you probably didn't know is that the Tetris music is a real Russian song called Korobeiniki, and it has words and everything. Sadly, in this version, there is no music.

Tetris is one of those games that can be really fun to play for 2 minutes or for 20 minutes. Tetris by Electronic Arts certainly lives up to that promise. I've really come to enjoy EA games on my BlackBerry; they seem to know what they're doing when it comes to games on the ‘Berry. Incidentally, EA did a great job designing Tetris for the BlackBerry PlayBook.

Back on St. Patty's day we announced here on the blogs that Need for Speed Shift 3D for the BlackBerry Storm2 finally hit App World. This is one of the games that was demoed back at the BlackBerry Developer showing off RIM's newly announced Open GL APIs. With the 3D version of the game now available for the Storm2, I gave it a download and walkthrough and also compared to the 2D version available for the BlackBerry Bold 9700 (does not support Open GL) as well as the version of Need for Speed Shift available for the iPhone in Apple's App Store. Watch the video above to see how it unfolds and read on for some more details.
