Dragon for Email

Dragon for Email is a popular and easy-to-use email dictation application for BlackBerry powered by Dragon NaturallySpeaking. With this free app, you simply speak your emails, and it instantly translates your words to text on your device. This is a great alternative for people constantly on the go that may not always have free hands for typing. You can check out Alicia's detailed review (with videos!) for more information about how Dragon for Email works and to see if it's an app that will be beneficial for you to download.

Dragon for Email was recently updated to include Canadian BlackBerry users. Not all devices and carriers are currently supported in the US and Canada. Devices listed as compatible are BlackBerry 8310, 8320, 8900, 9000, 9530, 9550, 9630, and the 9700. Compatible carriers are AT&T, Nextel (USA), Rogers (Canada), Sprint (USA), T-Mobile US, TELUS (GSRM), and Verizon.

don't text and drive

Chances are, you have been hit with the dreaded cell phone ban. That means keep your friggin’ hands off of your mobile device while driving. I shouldn’t say dreaded, as it is a good thing. It will hopefully keep the roads safer, allowing you to stay alive long enough to check in at more venues on FourSquare. Now if only they could enforce a “stop putting on your makeup in the mirror” or “quit trying to juggle a coffee and an egg McMuffin” ban as well; the road would be close to accident free. Well, except for the “hey dude, stop rubber necking and stop gawking at the girl walking down the street” drivers.

Now this doesn’t mean that you have to completely neglect your BlackBerry. Oh no, it just means you have to get creative with the way you use it. I present to you the CrackBerry Guide to Voice to Text applications. We’ll have a look at the best ways you can still keep in touch, while minimizing getting busted by the fuzz. While these apps are designed to reduce hands-on BlackBerry use and abuse, the developers and we at CrackBerry take no responsibility if you get caught and slapped with a fine. If you are driving, pull over and have a quick read.

CrackBerry idol - AliciaDragon for Email for BlackBerry Smartphones

[ youtube video link for mobile viewing ]

Have you ever found yourself trying to compose an e-mail but fumble so much with the keyboard that the text looks more like an alien language than actual words? Well, welcome to my world. Whether it be sending out messages for work or writing e-mails to friends I have no patience to type everything out. It just seems too SLOW. Well thanks to a friend from the train and my favorite blackberry blog site I downloaded a free dictation app called Dragon for E-mail. Finally, a hassle-free way of writing e-mail messages by simply speaking and having the app process and translate the audio into text.

Nuance's Dragon for E-Mail is as simple as the motto on their page: Press, Speak, Send. The app is embedded directly into each e-mail so no additional steps or clicks are necessary. How cool is that? With all the time spent reading crackberry, visiting facebook, listening to slacker and, of course, something called a job, anything that frees up time is hands down a winner in my book.

Dragon dictation for email updated - Now supports BlackBerry Tour smartphones

The Dragon for email application is simply put, awesome! I have it on numerous devices (BlackBerry and iPad) and it has never failed with dictating my emails so far. Sure, at first it had some issues with my "aboots" and "eh's" but once you learn to get past that it's pretty sweet.

The intial realese of Dragon was not that great for some BlackBerry Tour owners though. Many experienced issues with the application not loading correctly or just simply not working at all. Nuance, the makers of Dragon for email have corrected the issue with their latest release which is currently available via BlackBerry App World. Honestly, I'm not sure as to when it was updated exactly but I am told this will resolve the issue for Sprint Tour owners. Sadly, the app is only available in the US so if you live elsewhere you may have issues finding a direct download for the latest version which is currently sitting at 1.6.2.

The BlackBerry App Roundup

Happy May to all! Hope everyone out there is recovering nicely from WES last week... Hopefully there aren't too many 'WES Hangovers'... I trust by now they're long gone. Lots of good stuff came out of the symposium, and for me, I'm probably looking forward to getting my hands on the 9100 the most. I've never been a Pearl user, but hey, it's been updated for the times and I think if you've ever even had a small inclination to give the 8100 a try, the 9100 will be a solid performer. But I digress... Let's start talking BlackBerry Apps. Covered this week in the roundup are the following titles:

Giveaway of the Week: Cool Search

Freebies of the Week: Dragon for Email, Free YouTube Player for BlackBerry, BreezyPrint

In Case You Missed It: CardStar for BlackBerry, Waze for BlackBerry Public Beta, Fixmo Tools 1.1, S4BB Rolls Out DataBackup Beta 4, SkyMall App for BlackBerry

New This Week: Murphy's Laws, Multi Timer, SuperLaunch

Cool at BlackBerry App World: UPS Mobile

Dragon for Email

I remember way back when I had one of my first PCs and I discovered Dragon Dictate. I was amazed that I could just speak and the PC would recognize (mostly) what I said and put it into text. Well I've been wowed again with the release of Dragon for Email. Never has it been easier to speak your emails to your BlackBerry. Just talk away and Dragon for Email will transcribe your speech into a text email on your device. The app integrates directly with the native email client, and you can speak names for the address line, subjects and email body. You can also reply and forward emails using the app. Dragon for Email is available in the US free for a limited time. You can download it directly from BlackBerry App World.
