BBM outage

*UPDATE* @BlackBerryHelp - We’re getting reports that some users are experiencing delays. We’re investigating and will update you ASAP. ^CB

*UPDATE 2* - And all is well again, according to @BlackBerry - BlackBerry services are currently operating normally in EMEIA.

While we're hesitant to give this one the honor of being a full scale outage, it appears as though some folks are indeed having issues with getting emails and BBM messages delivered on their devices. We'll continue to monitor things but here are a few examples from users across the World of what is happening after being asked if they were experiencing any issues:

  • @crackberry yes me... in italy
  • @crackberry yup I'm having issues. Still some functionality but some users are completely down.
  • @crackberry yes...I am facing internet connectivity and BBM issues in India
  • @crackberry BBM messages haven't been sending properly in the past half an hour, hope they get it quicker than last time!

You having any issues? If so drop some comments here on the blogs or in the forums while we continue to monitor the situation.

BlackBerry Internet Service Outage

* Official Update from RIM:

RIM Statement - November 7, 2011: There was a global Internet issue this morning that impacted a number of Internet Service Providers (ISP) around the world. RIM's BlackBerry Infrastructure was not impacted however, some customers may have experienced delays with their ISP. RIM continues to monitor the situation.  *

* Update: So it seems the BlackBerry service hiccups some reported experiencing this morning were not of RIM's doing (all services a go for RIM), but rather were the result of broader internet issues. We're expecting an update from RIM shortly as to exactly how and why BlackBerry services were affected. *

It looks like some users are reporting that the BlackBerry Internet Service is experiencing issues this morning. Reports from Twitter and the CrackBerry forums are saying that some users cannot send/receive emails or BBMs. I'm not having any issues here on Verizon and Kevin seems to be okay as well, so we're not quite sure just whats up yet. Hit the forums and let us know where you're at and stay tuned and we'll report back as we find out more ...

RIM

If you haven't discovered it yet, Research In Motion is posting updates on the status of BlackBerry service at RIM.com (and on UK.BlackBerry.com). Here's the timeline and where things are at:

Wednesday 12th October - 9:45 (GMT-5)
BlackBerry subscribers in the Americas may be experiencing intermittent service delays this morning. We are working to resolve the situation as quickly as possible and we apologize to our customers for any inconvenience. We will provide a further update as soon as more information is available.

Wednesday 12th October - 12:00 (GMT+1)
We know that many of you are still experiencing service problems. The resolution of this service issue is our Number One priority right now and we are working night and day to restore all BlackBerry services to normal levels. We will continue to keep this page updated.

Tuesday 11th October - 21:30 (GMT+1)
The messaging and browsing delays that some of you are still experiencing were caused by a core switch failure within RIM's infrastructure. Although the system is designed to failover to a back-up switch, the failover did not function as previously tested. As a result, a large backlog of data was generated and we are now working to clear that backlog and restore normal service as quickly as possible. We sincerely apologise for the inconvenience caused to many of you and we will continue to keep you informed.

Tuesday 11th October - 16:00 (GMT+1)
Some of you are experiencing messaging and browsing delays. We are working to restore normal service as quickly as possible and we apologise for any inconvenience this has caused.

Monday 10th October - 20:46 (GMT+1)
Our sincere apologies to all of you affected by today's BlackBerry service issues.

Monday 10th October - 15:00 (GMT+1)
We are currently working to resolve an issue impacting some of our BlackBerry customers in the Europe, Middle East and Africa region. In the meantime, we apologise to you for any inconvenience, and thank you for your patience.

BlackBerry App World down for you? You're not alone

Having issues with logging into BlackBerry App World today? You're not alone. Many users have been reporting seeing the above error when logging in today or some other variation of. We're not positive as to when it started or when it will be back up. Although, at some point it did seem as though it was back then it went down again. We'll keep you all updated on this when it does come back up. In the meantime, check the CrackBerry App Store instead for your app needs. Thanks to everyone who sent this into us!

*Update* - Looks like it's coming back online for most people now

BIS Outage

*Update 2* - 11:35am EST Many reports of BIS being back up rolling in across all the carriers in question. Issue seems to be resolved. Give it a little time to hit all users across the many regions in question.

*Update* - 11:20am EST - It looks like users (including myself) are now able to send emails, but still not receive. Hopefully full email capabilities will be back up soon.

It's been quite a while since we had an outage across multiple carriers and regions in North America, but it looks like BIS email is down for most carriers across the US and parts of Canada. No one is receiving email, but it appears that browser, BlackBerry Messenger, voice and SMS are still working however. It looks like the outage started in the wee hours of the morning today, but there is no word on when they'll be up and running. Keep it here and we'll report anything as it pops up. BlackBerry BIS Outage

If you are in Europe you may have noticed that your service is a bit hit or miss this morning. Users are reporting that data services in Europe aren't fairing very well today, and it looks the problem lies with the European NOC. We're not totally sure what the issue is, but things should be in the works of getting resolved shortly. If you are having issues, leave a comment with your carrier/location so we can see just what is what. We'll keep you updated as we find out more and hopefully things will be back to normal in the next few hours.

Data Outage

According to dataoutages.com, many users are still having issues with both BIS and BES connections for the second day in a row. It seems like the issue is hovering around Wifi connections, where users are having data trouble when Wifi is disconnected. No official word on what the deal is or when it will be fixed, but hopefully it will get resolved at some point today. If you're having spotty issues with email, web browsing and BBM then this is most likely why. Drop a comment and let us know how data is working for you.

Just yesterday we got a great video from CNN on the BlackBerry Boom in Indonesia, and today we came across this one courtesy of @impalass96 regarding last week's data outage. The video makes some good points that we can all relate to ("a stressful period for some") and gives a brief description of what happened to cause the outage. While it doesn't reveal anything terribly detailed, they did quote Kevin's original blog post about the outage (but managed to steal my BBM title to throw on top of it?). I wonder if anyone in the video is a CrackBerry user? :-)

Pheeww... Good to be back up and Running!

* Update: Been getting lots of tips, and we've received the same message ourselves, from the BlackBerry Network Administrator pushing you to upgrade to the latest version of BlackBerry Messenger. We'll be paste the email in down below. Better upgrade! *

WOW. BlackBerry Messenger brought down BBM. Who would have thought. Our CrackBerry readers were first to pick up on the issue and we were quick to report that BBM was on the fritz... from there it escalated into one crappy evening with all BlackBerry data services going down.  But we're glad to be back in action.

RIM Statement - December 23rd

A service interruption occurred Tuesday that affected BlackBerry customers in the Americas. Message delivery was delayed or intermittent during the service interruption. Phone service and SMS services on BlackBerry smartphones were unaffected. Root cause is currently under review, but based on preliminary analysis, it currently appears that the issue stemmed from a flaw in two recently released versions of BlackBerry Messenger (versions 5.0.0.55 and 5.0.0.56) that caused an unanticipated database issue within the BlackBerry infrastructure. RIM has taken corrective action to restore service.

RIM has also provided a new version of BlackBerry Messenger (version 5.0.0.57) and is encouraging anyone who downloaded or upgraded BlackBerry Messenger since December 14th to upgrade to this latest version which resolves the issue. RIM continues to monitor its systems to maintain normal service levels and apologizes for any inconvenience to customers.

BE SURE TO UPGRADE to the latest version of BlackBerry Messenger. You can grab it by visiting blackberry.com/messenger from your BlackBerry's web browser or from BlackBerry App World.

BlackBerry Messenger Outage?

* FINAL UPDATE: Things are back to normal. RIM Statment to follow.

* Update 1: OK, preliminary word coming in is that it's a partial outage affecting North American carriers: BlackBerry Messenger and things like the web browser and apps that use a data connection. Email seems ok though. And it seems not all carriers and not all subscribers are affected. I sure am though.. was in the middle of making a video on the new crackberry launcher when data quit. lol. *

* Update 2: BlackBerry data is no more. No emails, no web browsing, no BlackBerry messenger for it's North American users. Estimated time for a fix to come through is 3 hrs to a day, yes..a day.

* Update 3: ARRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGGG!!!!!!!! This is SERIOUSLY FRUSTRATING AS ALL HELL.

* Update 4: It seems that upgrading to the newest version of BlackBerry Messenger (blackberry.com/messenger) may help resolve some of the BBM issues. So if you can manage to get it loaded up, you might have some life again. Man this night has been frak'd.

* Update 5: Here is the current Google Search Results for "BlackBerry"... it makes for some additional fun reading to kill the time. Maybe we should all just go to bed now... and hopefully by morning this nightmare will be over. On the silver lining side... we set a new forum record tonight for users online. Yay outage! lol. Bad joke. This sucks. BlackBerry is also the #1 trending topic on twitter tonight! BlackBerry email update below.

Lots of reports have been coming in over the past hour of BlackBerry Messenger service being on the fritz. You'll sometimes get a check mark on a sent message, but not the D or the R signifying that the message has been delivered and read. Some users seem to be unaffected. For others, some of the messages are getting through and others are not (as shown above - Adam received two of the six messages I sent, yet I have yet to receive confirmation of him actually reading them). We're starting to get reports from some people that it's coming back up for them... let's see how this goes. You can follow the forum threads below and use the comments to this post to stay on top of it!

No one is receiving email, but it appears that browser, BlackBerry Messenger, voice and SMS are still working however. No reports of exatcly when things went down or when they'll be up and running. Keep it here and we'll report anything as it pops up. Jump into the forums for more discussion.
