Customized folders and colors on your BlackBerry Smartphone

Sure this isn't exactly earth-shattering news, but I thought it pretty cool. You can customize the colors of folders you create in OS 7 on your BlackBerry. The other day, I was making some folders in the All pane so I could move some of my carrier's...um... value-added apps off of my home screen. OS 7 has such a vivid, colorful style to it that I felt the standard black folder icon was a little boring. Poking around in the Edit Folder options ([Link NSFW] like you do), I found a whole assortment of other color options for my custom folders.

As a bit of a blow to my CrackBerry Street Cred, a little digging around on the internet and a chat with my fellow CrackBerry writers revealed this feature has been around for a number of years and quite a few version numbers. Still, it only goes to prove that no matter how long you've owned a BlackBerry, no matter whom you know, there's probably at least something you didn't know it could do.

Read on to learn about creating and customizing folders on your BlackBerry.

Alarms App  Alarms App

As we all know the native BlackBerry alarms application is rather simplistic and extremely basic when it comes to features that it offers, and this does not meet everyones needs unfortunately. Previously it had been shown that additional alarms besides the one that is allowed in the alarms application could be added through your calendar, but for people with busy calendars this may not be ideal either. The folks over at JoPs agreed that this was an area that was lacking on BlackBerry devices, and have come out with a rather feature loaded replacement for everyones enjoyment called Alarms

Alarms allows users to set up multiple alarms with five different frequency options, one time use, hourly, daily, weekly or monthly. Another feature of this application is that you are able to customize the alert of the alarm beyond just the sound. Users can select a picture to popup when the alarm sounds, or even a video file to play in the popup. For users who want a more simplistic experience it can also be done as just plain text like a regular alarm as well, but once you try the custom options you will be hooked. Along with LED support, Alarms also offers a status indicator so you will see an icon for upcoming alarms in your notification bar, which is very convenient to see how many alarms are still upcoming. Alarms is available for all devices running OS 4.7 and above and available in the CrackBerry store for $2.99 for a limited time.

CrackBerryCoveroo.com

Longtime CrackBerry readers know I've been a huge fan of Coveroo ever since they first opened their doors for business. Their battery door customization service for smartphones makes it easy to affordably give your BlackBerry a big touch of personalization, either buy purchasing one of their already-designed Coveroos (including the CrackBerry pictured above) or by submitting your own design. And since you're buying an additional battery door when you go the Coveroo route, you always have your original as backup should you want to sell the device or need to send it in for warranty.

BlackBerry Master Control Program 0.9.3.0 Beta 4 Now Available

If you've ever modified your BlackBerry OS a little as a moderate to advanced user of BlackBerry smartphones you might be familiar with BlackBerry Master Control Program. If not, it's a great app for your computer that can help get at some of the inner workings of your BlackBerry OS to modify some stuff other apps simply cannot get at.

After having used the app myself for a while now, I've got to see it go through some growing stages and this time Darren, has released version 0.9.3.0 Beta 4 to the masses. The change log for BlackBerry Master Control is one that is always extensive, so hit up the site for downloads and more information on it's release. And remember folks, be careful with this app if you have no idea what it does, probably best left alone.
