BlackBerry apps for the job hunt

It can be argued that, when it comes to landing a job, the saying “It’s not what you know, it’s who you know” doesn’t seem to be as relevant anymore. There are fewer jobs available and the demands are high for potential candidates. Companies want to get the most out of each employee and they are expanding the search to incorporate other tools. They also want results and positions filled quickly. The classifieds in the local paper pale in comparison to the online tools both employers and employees can make use of. In your recent quest for a new job, how often have you searched through Craigslist postings and numerous job boards? How many times have you reached out to companies and recruiters on social networking sites, like Twitter, in order to get your online foot in the virtual door?

Several years ago, I responded to a posting that was, at the most, an hour old. The same day I received a phone call for an interview. Within a couple of days from the initial point of contact, I was hired. That’s the kind of results both employers and candidates want and need. The trick is to have the most optimal arsenal in your portfolio, to not only make you attractive, but also accessible.

Craigslist Mobile App for BlackBerry by Movela Review

[ youtube video link for mobile viewing ]

Today I will be reviewing the Craigslist Mobile app by Movela. This application is the first version released by Movela and it's version is 1.0 . Most people in the United States have heard of the website craigslist.com. Craigslist is a website where people can post ads for everything and anything you can think of. This site is NOT just for things for sale, but also for things lost or found, activitiy announcements, garage sale listings and even the ever so popular "Personals" section where people can post personal ads. What this application does is allow you to browse the craigslist website on your Blackberry with out having to load the site on your mobile browser. So whether you are looking to find a local garage sale while out and about or looking for a "casual encounter" while out of town on business, Craigslist Mobile had you covered!

Wow. Seriously. This is insane. Yet another CrackBerry.com Podcast, right on our bi-weekly schedule? You bet! Maybe there's hope we keep the streak alive afterall. We got on the CrackBerry Radio line at 11am today, just two hours after getting our hands on the new Twitter for BlackBerry Smartphones client. Craig, Adam, Bla1ze and myself of course talked about that and a whole bunch of other good stuff this show. Lots of apps, like Worldmate and Craiglist, lots of fun stuff - like Jeopardy's frack up last week, and some other goodies as well.

Be sure to drop us a comment in the blogs here and if you haven't yet, subscribe to us in iTunes and leave us a nice rating and review (even if you don't use iTunes - you know we'll appreciate it). We should have some special MWC footage coming next week, and we'll be back with a regularly-scheduled CrackBerry Podcast in two weeks! Take a listen and enjoy the show!

If you're a hardcore Craiglist user and a BlackBerry fan you'll be happy to know that the craiglist mobile app for BlackBerry was finally approved into App World today (we first caught a glimpse of it back in November - check out that post for video). This full-featured app is the "official craigslist app" and was built for craigslist by Movela/Pyxis Mobile. That being the case, the bad news here is that the app carries a price tag of $4.99. It definitely provides a smoother and faster experience than running the mobile website, that's for sure, but may not be worth the $ for those who just check out craiglist from time to time. You can debate that one in the comments or discuss it in the forums!

If you are a Craigslist user in search of a better method of accessing the site, the good folks from Movela and Pyxis mobile have just the application for you. Craigslist mobile is a new application set to launch in BlackBerry App World any day now as it's just waiting approval.

Craigslist mobile is a full featured client application which allows users to browse and search all of Craigslist as well as bookmark, and reply to posts and much more. Users need not worry about being limited to where they may be able to search as all countries and even categories are supported by the app. We'll keep ya updated on availability, but pricing is going to be a one time payment of $4.99.
