The process itself actually only takes a minute or two and is quite easy. If you do not still have the User Agent Switcher Add-On installed on your computer, you'll need to reinstall it to make this work. You'll follow some of the same instructions as in the previous post. The trick comes in once you've unchecked all the calendars you no longer want. Keep reading to see how to remove those unwanted calendars once and for all.
The native Calendar in the new PlayBook OS 2.0 is a great feature. Now we can quickly and easily see our work, personal and social events in one central location.
Within the Calendar application, we have a plethora of customizable options. You can now view your calendars by the usual day, week and month formats and see your daily agenda at a glance. You can create multiple calendars and see them all in one spot. You can easily color code the calendars and use one for personal and one for business appointments. The new “People” tab allows you to see with whom you have meetings scheduled on any given day all without leaving the app. Another great option in the Calendar application is the ability to assign a calendar to each family member and keep track of everyone’s activities.
While the Calendar application seemed to give us a few hiccups at first with things like syncing multiple calendars from our Google accounts, great detective work by forums members have provided solutions. Another issue that seems to be common amongst Google account users is the “Attendees” option. If you are syncing a Google calendar that option seems to be missing. After some searching, I ran across a forum post where someone has found a work around for even this issue -- I outlined the process with a step-by-step guide here.
The native Calendar application and other added features free us from using BlackBerry Bridge thus allowing the PlayBook to truly be the stand alone device it was meant for. I’ll admit, before the release of the 2.0 software, I usually left my PlayBook on the charging cradle only touching it for reviews or to let my kids play a game. Now I have my BlackBerry Bold 9930 in one hand and my BlackBerry PlayBook in the other.
The Calendar application is just one of the great new features available on the BlackBerry PlayBook OS 2.0 software but it still needs a few fixes to make it perfect. For anyone that just has basic needs when it comes to using the Calendar, getting up and running is very simple. But for those of us that need a bit more functionality, a few tweaks need to be made. We already looked how to sync multiple calendars when using Gmail, but what about adding attendees to events?
Some of you may have noticed that when syncing a Google calendar to your PlayBook, the "Attendee" option is curiously missing. Well not to worry because there is a quick work around that will have you adding attendees in no time at all. Thankfully some forum members have already found a solution that seems to work flawlessly for most of us. Keep reading for the step-by-step guide to allowing attendees in your Google calendar on the BlackBerry PlayBook.
The release of OS 2.0 for the BlackBerry PlayBook and its integrated calendar is a dream come true for me. It's one of the features I use the most on my BlackBerry Bold 9930 and it was sorely missed on my PlayBook. Now that it's available, a lot of us are trying to figure out how to make it do exactly as we'd like. Over in our CrackBerry forums some helpful users found a way to sync multiple Google calendars on the PlayBook. We thought this was so great that it deserved a post on the front page and a shout out to all the members commenting in that forum. Also a special shout out to forums member tubbycyclist for such detailed and easy to follow instructions and @jcarty for letting us know you can do the same using Google Chrome. Keep reading to see step by step instructions on how to sync your multiple Gmail calendars with your BlackBerry PlayBook!
Along with native Messages and Contacts, the BlackBerry PlayBook 2.0 software is sporting a native Calendar application as well. Setting up your accounts is super easy and once you're up and running there's nothing to it. There are various views available like monthly and weekly, and you can color code each calendar for easy viewing. You'll find many of the same options in the calendar here as on your device as well, so most things should look pretty familiar. Check out the video above as we walk through the features of the Calendar app on the BlackBerry PlayBook.
This week I'm travelling to Illinois for some corporate training which just happens to be the home of our very own Kerri Neill. As you can imagine I'm always thinking of last minute items to pick up or pack. Only problem is its usually while walking on a busy Manhattan street. Rather than risk serious bodily harm stopping in the middle of foot traffic to jot down a quick reminder by typing the whole thing out, I thought about using voice notes. Wouldn't it be nice if you could record a message and add it to your tasks or calendar application? That way when the reminder pops-up up all you'd have to do is listen? Now you can with iVoiceNote by iDong. Keep reading for more details and screenshots.
Universal search is one of the OS 6 features that I absolutely love. Unfortunately, I'm using a Bold 9700 with OS 5 and refuse to give it up or upgrade the OS. With that said, my one pet peeve is that the Calendar doesn't offer the same search option as OS 6. Since I have numerous appointments, reminders, anniversaries, recurring events, and birthdays, having an integrated search option is better than the method I'm currently using which is go to date, different views, or employing the native search feature just to find that one elusive entry. For those of you who still use OS 5 or just want to add options to OS 6 there is a way, by installing SearchCalendar -The Best Calendar Search (V 1.1.3).
To begin, I love my BlackBerry and yes I would consider myself a fanboy of sorts. The BlackBerry was my first connected to the web device going back to my beloved 950 and it's AA-battery. Unlike some device fanboys, I'm secure enough to point out when I believe there is a shortcoming in the feature list.
We're always reading about people's wish lists for the BlackBerry. Some want cooler apps like Angry Birds and others hope for a cross platform BBM client. I'm not going to lie Angry Birds is near the top of my list and if it isn't on the PlayBook I'm calling it DOA; but for my money there is a bigger and more important on my wish list for Santa Claus this year.
Having been available as a beta for users for a while now SBSH has made their Calendar Pro app available for all. The SBSH Calendar Pro app is a more robust, feature rich calendar compared to what is included with your BlackBerry out of the box.
Advanced features such as colored time slots, built in task manager functions as well as multiple viewing options make calendar pro a great alternative if you need something a little more advanced then what RIM offers in the BlackBerry OS. SBSH Calendar Pro is a little pricey in my opinion but that said I'm not much of a calendar user. Others may find a great value in the $14.95 price point and a free trial is available in case you are on the fence. All devices OS 4.5+ are supported here.
Google has just released Google Sync, an application that let’s you synchronize your BlackBerry calendar with your Google calendar.
Using your BlackBerry’s native calendar, you can now access your Google calendar even when you don’t have network coverage and be alerted for upcoming appointments with sound or vibration.
Your Google Calendar stays synchronized whether you access it from your computer or your phone. You can add or edit entries on your BlackBerry or on your Google Calendar on the web.
Recently I’ve heard of some issues popping up with the new BlackBerry Curve. It seems that some versions of the Curve were shipped with a bug in the OS that causes some synchronization issues with the Calendar, including duplicate Calendar entries being created, and entries created on the device not being synchronized with the desktop email software.
