Review of Mobile Checkbook for BlackBerry Smartphones

[ youtube video link for mobile viewing ]

In today's economy financial matters are on most everyone's mind, so with that being said I thought a financial application would be fitting for my first review. I decided to try Mobile Checkbook by Mobatech because at a price of $9.99 it seemed to advertise all the features I would actually USE. If you're anything like me and have this obsessive need to make sure everything balances down to the penny then you've probably run through the gamut of options like checkbook registers, duplicate checks & computer financial software. Since my Blackberry is pretty much with me at all times (ok, maybe not in the shower but that's only because I know I'd drop it & I'm pretty sure my Blackberry isn't waterproof), I figured I'd let it simplify one more area of my life.

Released last week, eSurvey is a new tool for that allows for easy data collection via BlackBerry devices. Users can conduct market research, issue incident reports or simply run a survey. eSurvey is a quick, easy solution to gathering data through the BlackBerry platform.

ING Direct

ING Direct has released a free app for Canadians that allows access to accounts on the go. With the application, you can check account balances, view transactions, transfer funds, locate ABMs and more. ING Direct lets you have access to all of the important features on your account, and you can access them right from your BlackBerry when you're on the go. The application is currently only available in Canada, and it looks like most newer devices are supported. You can download OTA via m.ingdirect.ca, or head to BlackBerry Appworld.

ReportAway

Freshbooks. If you haven’t heard of Freshbooks before, it’s known as “The Leader of Online Invoicing”. It’s an extremely beneficial business tool, especially for those who are looking for any type of outside sales or field service automation. Unfortunately, not everyone is on board with this type of service and some are still using manual invoices, stacks of paper and other handwritten forms that could become a headache for any accounting department. It’s also a valued option for those who wish to keep track of their team, manage contractors, estimates and, of course, their clients. Now while Freshbooks can be accessed from your BlackBerry smartphone, it isn’t properly formatted for optimal viewing. With those out in the world wanting to carry increasingly smaller devices, they want to be able to only use their smartphones. Freshbooks does have an application that’s currently in beta; I believe it’s waiting for approval for entry into the App World to be precise. I’ll talk about that app in the near future. Right now we’re going to have a look at another option called ReportAway! for Freshbooks, not to be confused with the standard addition of ReportAway! for Quickbooks.

The ReportAway! for Freshbooks application will provide you with the benefits of Freshbooks, without tying you to a computer. Read on for more.

Mobile Checkbook

These days, you wonder where your paycheck has gone. I'm not only talking about monthly bills, but also special purchases, such as shopping for the holidays. Has everyone finished their holiday shopping? If you answered no, I have two things to say to you; Stop talking to yourself and stop reading so you can go out and buy something. No! Wait! Maybe you should have a read, as this application may help out. In December, you can always feel the energy in the air as the masses hit the malls and shops to stock up on supplies, food and presents. Receipts pile up or stuffed in pockets. You either use online or telephone banking to check your balances. You keep buying things for yourself, rather than for others. These are just added stresses for this time of year.

Mobile Checkbook, which was updated just recently, allows you to easily record transactions on the go, as well as perform reconciliation of your balances. I've wanted to review this application for months, but was asked to hold off until the new version was released. I had the chance to try out this version for the past couple of weeks and I can say it was well worth the wait.

Ascendo Money Version 3.3

Ascendo Money Version 3.3

It’s obvious that managing your finances is more important than ever. I file every receipt, bank statement and bill all the while tracking everything on my BlackBerry.  In the hustle and bustle of everyday life, you have to keep on top of your money. I’m certain that most, if not all, of us have looked into our wallet or purse and half expected moths to fly out. Okay, maybe not that bad, but I’m sure we have all wondered where our money is going or where it could be properly redirected. There are tools in place to help us do that, but wouldn’t it be great if there was an in-depth solution on our BlackBerrys?

Almost a year ago, I had the opportunity to review Ascendo Money Version 2.57. It made a lasting impression on me, as it helped me maintain a firm grip on my finances. Since then, it has been updated to version 3.2.5, with each update bringing more functionality and more cash confidence. Now, we’ve got a sneak peak of version 3.3 for you. To bring yourselves up to speed, check out both the CB store for version 3.2.5’s overview, and my review of version 2.57 and join me after the jump.

eWallet for BlackBerry

I hate to be a downer around this time of year, but there's one thing I have to bring up. Whether we think about it or not, identity theft runs rampant as we are out and about shopping for the Holidays. While some of these thefts are well beyond our control, others are as simple as misplacing vital information. The next thing you know, your credit card or bank account statement is mailed to you in an envelope thicker than your Mom's gravy. Now you're stuck with a bill and stuck on the phone with your bank or credit card company, trying to figure this out. My philosophy? Prevention over apprehension.

There are a number of solutions in the world of BlackBerry, and I have reviewed a few of them in the past. I've been waiting (like some of you) for this application to finally hit the BlackBerry; Introducing eWallet for BlackBerry.

This secure application is brought to you by Ilium Software and Web Information Solutions, Inc. You may recognize WebIS from their BlackBerry application FlexWallet. eWallet for BlackBerry is a mash up the best of FlexWallet and enhancements from eWallet from other platforms. If you're using FlexWallet or new to the whole wallet experience, why not have a look at eWallet for BlackBerry?

SafeWallet for BlackBerry

SafeWallet for BlackBerry!

In my opinion, it's truly a glorious day when a Software company finally adds BlackBerry solutions to its array of applications. Previously, SBSH Mobile Software LTD had focused on applications for the Symbian, Windows Mobile Pocket PC and Windows Mobile Smartphone platforms. How many times have you wished a non-BlackBerry application could be converted to the BlackBerry world? This may be your lucky day, as SBSH may be your Genie in a bottle.

SBSH enters into the BlackBerry world with SafeWallet Pro, a secure storage application. Granted, there are other BlackBerry applications out there that offer a similar solution to your security needs. SafeWallet Pro jumps into the fray with its arms swinging. Though I sat on the edge of my seat waiting for the release announcement, I can now finally make that seat comfortable as I prepare to delve into the new life of security that SBSH offers. Besides, it's been quite a while since I've reviewed a secure database solution. Now, if you promise not to take any money. I'll let you take a look inside my wallet.

Review: MyMileageGenie for BlackBerry

My Mileage Genie for BlackBerry Smartphones

Last week, a collective groan was heard throughout the land. This was due to the rising price of fuel. As I washed my car this weekend, I almost shed a tear. Now, I'm not going to get into the politics or hearsays of all the fuel hoopla. The bottom line is this; now, more than ever, is the time to get a handle on your gas problem (pardon the pun). Unfortunately, you can't really put your car up on blocks and take your bicycle with you on your sales calls, daily job site commutes or out of town emergency trips. But you can truly, and accurately, track your mileage so you can make sure you have every earned penny coming back to you. Presenting...MyMileageGenie.
